This song always gets to me to. I did not serve but my son did 2 tours in Afghanistan with the Marines. We were blessed that he was able to come home alive. Will always honors those who served and those who made the supreme sacrifice. I do not know the exact occasion when Trace was the presenting the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown but it is an honor not often given to a citizen who was not politician or a service member. If this song does not get to you emotionally then you need to examine yourself imho. Great reaction you have a blessed day

As far as I know Trace was not in the military but one of his grandfathers served in the Civil War. He’s always very humble when it comes to our military. They were filming this video and he was asked to put the wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier. He felt he wasn’t worthy of having the honor of doing so, but was proud that he got a chance to do it. He truly honors all of our military!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Fallen Marine, CPL Patrick Ray Nixon, is the soldier shown at the end of the video. He was the first Tennessean killed in Iran, March 23, 2003. A bridge in Gallatin TN, on State Route 386, is dedicated to his memory. We are all grateful to him, and every soldier, for their sacrifice...past, present and future.

The part about his grandpa meeting him in heaven, clicking his heels and saluting him gets me every time. The headstone and the picture of the Marine you see at the end of the video is who this song is about. His name is Patrick Ray Nixon, he was a 19 year old Marine who died in Iraq.

And he's tried to do what he can to support the military in every way possible since then. Not something I think about that often because he finished his second enlistment shortly before I was born and he was a quiet man, didn’t talk about his time in the military much. "Arlington" is a song written by Jeremy Spillman and Dave TurnbullI and was inspired by United States Marine Corps Corporal Patrick Nixon, who died in battle in 2003. After meeting Nixon's father, Turnbull was inspired to write the song. If you look towards the end of the video, you will see a photo of Corporal Nixon and his headstone.
Adkins said that "This is not a war song, and it has nothing to do with politics. This is a true story."

They folded the flag for him, my grandma still has it in her house too, and he got the 21 gun salute. Another detail I'll never forget is at the start the soldier, I'm assuming he was s chaplain idk I was 12, at the beginning said "We gather here today to remember our BROTHER Robert Leonard Saxman" and that hit me just has hard as when he passed. When I am thanked for my service, all I CAN is thank you back to them. Their heartfelt appreciation is worth more to me than anything. It takes a true heart to come up to a stranger and speak to them. That alone shows the gratitude and it's overwhelming.

I've never been in the military but I am very thankful for our military and our men and woman in uniform I will run clear across the parking lot when I see someone in uniform to shake their hand and thank them for their service!!! I can tell it means so much to them just to be thanked and appreciated so when you said that's all you guys ask for makes me feel good when I thank a soldier for their service.

So many ramp ceremonies and folks we just couldn’t save but I would not trade any of it for anything whatsoever. Just being together fighting for the common cause until the end with those people is priceless.

28-year military service here with action in Vietnam. Nicaragua, Beirut, Grenada and Desert Storm. We have all been touched by the death of a brother or sister in arms. Listening to this song, my tears flowed right alongside yours. We have sadness for losing a fellow soldier. A soldier dies and it acts as a mirror for us to look deeper inside ourselves. We bear our scars, fight our demons and have memories that we will take to the grave. My 7-year-old grandson asked me if I was a hero. I told him no, but I served with a whole bunch of them. There is something special about Arlington and all the other veteran cemeteries. They are truly hallowed grounds that demands respect that few non-service individuals would appreciate. But I guess it doesn't really matter if we are understood by those not in the military, as long as we come closer to understanding ourselves. God bless our troops and God bless America!!!

There is a process whereby which you can apply to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington. It is usually reserved for people of some importance, such as government officials, but sometimes regular folks are afforded the opportunity as well. I am sure he went through the process to have the privilege of laying this wreath as a sign of respect for all of the fallen.

This song was inspired by the true story of U.S. Marine Corp Corporal Patrick Nixon, who died in battle in 2003. His photo and a photo of his gravestone are shown during the video. It was written by Jeremy Spillman and Dave Turnbull after Turnbull met Nixon's father who related the story of his son. Trace Adkins respectfully withdrew the song from radio (and all but special performances) after hearing from families of service members who paid the ultimate price about being emotionally devastated after unexpectedly hearing the song (while shopping or driving etc).

The song that gets me the most, is "Folded Flag" by Aaron Lewis (lead singer of Staind, but he does plenty of solo stuff). I mentioned in a different comment on a previous video that my Dad was killed in Vietnam. My mom elected to not havehim buried in Arlington sincenone of our family lived there. My dad is buried with family in Lafayette, La...where he belongs. I love this song, and appreciate Trace for doing it...but,please listen to Aaron's song. I cry every single time i hear it. Every time.
