- Finally finished the SciFi ManCave Theater... Hope you enjoy my quick tour.

Some Details for those who are interested :
* build materials (plywood, MDF, paint, TVs, LEDs, etc.) were only about 15k-20k + labour...lots and lots of labour (took about 1 year)
* took me about 1 year to complete
* main screen in 120" (Elite Cinegrey) + Epson Projector 5040UB, Denon 7.2 surround.
* Earth wall is really 3 x cheap LCD TVs in portrait mode + Matrix QuadHead2Go Q155 controller and PC running : www.3planesoft... or various videos (I change it up once and a while)
* background sounds were from the latest StarTrek movie
* side LCARS displays are again 2 x cheap LCD TVs running LCARS47 : www.lcars47.com/
* Blast door is heavy (plywood) with pneumatics. Manual override, safety sensors & power backup (UPS)
* Automation via Homeseer (HS3) - Philips Hue, Logitech, Insteon I/O, Shelly RGBW2
* Room has a window behind an easily removable panel + emergency lighting
* chairs are 4 x LazyBoy (very comfy) recliners
* LEDs & Hue bulbs change colour. Blue is just for show. Low RED for movie watching, yellow/white for regular TV viewing.
* Power usage is actually quite low. Other than the projector, TVs are only on for a few minutes...they turn off when we watch TV/movies. Room is completely OFF otherwise.
* as an IT guy, "computer" is used too frequently gets annoying having Alexa chime in (especially if I'm working from home). Ideally I'd opt for JARVIS...but I'll just want to wait until a) Amazon/Google allow for custom WAKE words...or b) I decide to tackle a non-cloud solution.
No I'm not single. Happily married (3 kids) for 25+ years.... wonderful & supportive geeky wife (those are the BEST! )
Yes this room is TOTALLY my inner 12 year old and I make no apologies. I'm a total space/scifi/tech geek and it was really fun creating a cool theater room for my family to watch movies. (which we love to do) and NASA/SpaceX launches.

This is incredible and wonderful and I love it.. but I gotta be honest, the fact that you havent changed Alexa's name to 'Computer' yet is a travesty.
Computer, Hal, Jarvis, sooo many good name options

@@SciFiGuy66 Seeing this makes me wonder, how hard is it to set up nice walls with insulation like that? Not specifically in this instance but just in general.
When I was younger I wanted to make my parents basement into something of the sort but my dad was saying that it would be super difficult to get all the insulation and stuff set up right.
Rather than just a quick scan of the room, I'd love to see a much more in-depth overview showing everything in detail?
If this was my room I would never wanna leave it again.

The sliding door is amazing
it's wonderful and very inspiring. We made ourselves a spaceship nightclub and movie theater lounge. We hope to be able to improve it in the years to come. Thank you for sharing.

Simple motion activated enteance door would be more movie like. Alexa is so passe. Great job on the decor.
Main blast door (inner) is pressure mat activated. Space invaders split door is voice activated by design (didn't want to door opening every time the dog wandered by)
