Thank you 🙏 This is so helpful! With Placidus I have a 12th house Stellium and with whole sign I have a 1st House Stellium… Big Difference! Sun, ASC, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter
Hello Susan thanks for this video, I am a 29' cancer rising, I understand now why I liked your videos right away ;-) ❤ I will add that being in a last degree for my ascendant I definitely need the complete chart because I also look at the 1st degrees of Leo for the transits.
Thank you for doing this. My whole life I went with Placidus, in the last few years my chart has been read either whole or equal. I Loved astrology but this change of chart has ruined it for me. I honestly don’t know which chart resonates with me most as I can relate to each of them. Now I don’t know what to do! 😭 I LOVE your content & so glad I found you. Your voice, I could listen to you all day. So soothing…❤
I find the Houses such a interesting but divisive area of astrology. I've been using Placidus for around 20 years for natal chart readings and Topocentric for transits, so they're still my preferred systems. I did experiment with Equal Houses briefly, which didn't alter my chart much so I could still relate, but I didn't resonate with the Whole Sign system. I agree there's no one right House system though - I think it's about whichever one(s) correlates most with your own readings.
Thank you for this video! I have found the Equal House system to be quite helpful and informative when interpreting my natal chart in terms of transits, progressions, and solar arcs.✨
Oh my goodness, you are so sweet to have done this video! I was one of the people in your comments who had questions about exactly this topic. I appreciate you so much, and your work. I’ve been studying astrology off and on for a few years, and every time I learn something new about astrology… there’s another question that arises. It’s really a passion one has to have in order to persue the field of astrology, because truly, one is always learning and it’s so encompassing. I never tire of learning about it and I love finding people like you who have such excellent material that I can learn from.
Thank you this is very helpful I have been learning with the whole house system but I wish to include the Placdius house system also for more insights :)
And then there are interceptions, which change the house placements. It would be so nice to read planets in transit using the actual chart. Maybe in the future we will have the software that allows for this.
Thank you for this. I have tried to modify my person use of whole sign houses. I more resonate with placidus although I originally learned with Koch. Whole sign chart readings makes it difficult to apply to my life experience. I have heard the many astrologers like whole sign houses for mundane astrology. Thanks! Love your videos.
When I was given the tip to follow my Saturn transits through the lens of the Whole Sign House system, I saw a correlation immediately . This exercise helped me to consider and then completely shift to the Hellenistic approach of Whole Sign Houses.
The brilliance of the quadrant system, regardless of which one, is the unequal sizes of the houses. Which beautifully reflects a basic cosmic truth about the soul's journey on earth which is uneven, non-linear and highly individualized. Whole sign houses are a wished for fantasy of linearity which is not actual lived life on earth. Further, the angles are so fundamental to synastry and transits and show up again and again and again as absolutely key points far more than signs, that they represent the best and most empirically sensitive basis for a house system. Not just 'sensitive points in a house.' They define angularity and are themselves endlessly referenced by observation by looking at charts of people you have relationships with and you will see your angles reflected in their planetary positions and vice versa. Whole signs offer none of that empirical consistency. Many astrologers and people new to astrology have perhaps an unconscious wish for a simple truth to lean into and whole signs seem to offer that. Until you get into actual charts and actual synastry and actual transits.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. As I mentioned here, I used Placidus for many years before switching. I prefer to let people use what suits them best without judging, condescending, and criticising their informed choices 🙏🏻
@@SusanHopkinson If astrology is going to have utility, it should be taught and used with discernment and an eye toward making it as empirically valid as possible. That is the more ethical approach. Not wanting to question or challenge is nice but not really responsible..
Hello, so for example someone’s Saturn return: that would be different according to these two house systems. When I look at my placidus chart I’m just starting my Saturn return, but in whole sign I just finished. This is quite baffling to me when it comes to major transits. I think you’re saying whatever it feels like hits home more is what you go with? I grew up with my placidus chart and that always seemed to make sense, but maybe that is because from early on, that is what I related to. It’s sounds like it becomes more subjective and less objective. 🤔
A Saturn return is indicated by transiting Saturn conjunct your natal Saturn within 2-3 degrees. It is not dependent on which house system you use. Wherever natal Saturn is found in whichever house system you use will be where the Saturn return occurs. 🙏🏻
Thank you for this post! It is very confusing though. My first and seven house is really dominating my chart, starting from the ascendant 16 degrees of Capricorn ending at 24 degrees of Pisces. which according to Placidus will leave pluto in my first house approx another 40 years. Placidus and whole sign is two complete different charts in my case? I know you said it doesn't matter which one really but if I were to purchase a reading from you, would you then use whole sign or Placidus? Being an Aquarius sun and cap asc I am soooo looking forward to some kind of positive shifts as its been pretty intense.
I work with whole signs, partly because in my experience the impossibly long transits through extremely big houses like you are describing don’t make sense in a person’s life 🙏🏻
Hey Susan, what would you make of the chart ruler being right between two houses? My Mars is retrograde at 0 deg Gemini for Scorpio rising. In the Whole sign system it is in the 8th, but in Placidus it is in the 7th. I feel like due to it ruling the ascendant it makes things much more complicated. 😅
Ideally you should choose the house system you want to work with and interpret it from there. As always, a useful interpretation has to take the entire chart into consideration 🙏🏻
thank you! this did inspire a question for me/from me on the topic of precession. i was sent an article about why astrology doesn't work or isn't real, with the basis being that planets have moved over time and the writer saying astrologers don't take that into account, that everyone's sign would be different now. i would love to hear that topic addressed by one or any of the more experienced, intelligent astrologers in the community! i know astrology works and is real because i've studied for 40 years, though never as academically as somebody working in the field. i know and see that it is very real and accurate, as i have seen the accuracy unfolding over time, serially. just hoping to find a a cogent response to this "debunking" from some others. i haven't heard any astrologers on youtube explain.
There are a lot of assumptions built into these criticisms which show that they don’t understand astrology. Any good astrologer takes precession into account, but the tropical zodiac is based on the apparent movement (tropos) of the Sun (our Star) across the equator. This is set by the equinoxes and solstices. The Moon’s cycle with the Sun each month marks the 12 divisions of 30’degrees that make up the 360’ of a chart (representing one Solar return). None of the constellations is exactly 30 degrees, these are just placeholders. So it is a paradigm based on a model of the sky, not the actual constellations. Even the sidereal zodiac - based on the stars - doesn’t reflect the actual constellations (of which there are more than 12). I will post something about this when I can. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
’m 46, I was born closer to equator. Placidus is way accurate for me having 1H stellium in Vedic and whole sign esp mercury doesn’t resonate with me. I’m not good on expressing words and I’m not a chatty person. In placidus having Having 12H Stellium is way too accurate. Bec I didn’t grow up with my Dad, I was born in different country, I’m a Nurse, having 12H mars, sun, neptune mercury in sag♐️ I experienced poltergeist when I was 19 yrs old and synchronicities when I turned 40 many events like hidden enemies that lead me to spirituality and astrology. Having 1H Venus Capricorn ppl saying I am very attractive and Pluto 10H Libra ♎️ and NN Scorpio 10H ♏️ I’m workaholic and many events happened that I had to challenged higher management and publicly stuffs. 5H Jupiter Taurus I have so many hobbies related to Taurus earth like exotic plants, crystals, perfumes collections, gold and jewelries♉️ stuffs. 2nd H Aquarius ♒️ moon work is important but I like different type of working environment and independent at my job. I have 2 job diff hospitals I do diff types of nursing.
So the choice of house system is anecdotal and not universal... For instance: if I choose the Whole signs system when looking at my progressed moon, I'll see that it is about to enter my fifth house in May. But I feel like I just got started working on my friendships and relationships and am nowhere near it entering my fifth house. Using Placidus house system, I can see that my progressed moon will actually stay in my fourth house until November 2026 (!). That seems more accurate to me based on where I am in life. Idk I feel like astrology is kinda bullshit based on this
The choice of house system is not anecdotal - you might have the wrong word here - it is based on which system you subscribe to. The Whole Sign system is the most ancient, and has always been used in Indian astrology, and was used in Ancient Greek astrology. In the meantime, different astrologers have created different types of houses: Porphyry and Placidus based on old Greek astrologers and Campanus and Koch on more modern astrologers they each are named for 🙏🏻
Placidus is way more accurate for me esp I was born closer to equator. Having mercury and neptune in 1H doesn’t resonate with me. I’m more like a 12H stellium.
This has always been complicated for me because my Aquarius ascendant is 29’47. If I were born less than a minute later, I would be a Pisces rising. I still struggle with knowing which system to use for transits.
Thank you 🙏 This is so helpful! With Placidus I have a 12th house Stellium and with whole sign I have a 1st House Stellium… Big Difference! Sun, ASC, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter
Beautifully done

Current software allows us to do this, but only for a timed birth chart. It’s impossible for general readings 🙏🏻
Thanks so much for this! :)
