Strausser was the fall guy, Slowik was the lynchpin. CJ was trying to do too much to make up for Slowik’s deficiency ? 2 years couldn’t fix the run game, couldn’t create any roles for the skills positions outside of the stars, couldn’t fix stunt pick ups, also the delayed play calls that resulted in hurried plays. Bobby as in his interviews showed he has a low football IQ. Not using Mixon in the passing game, down 2 of the top 3 WR’s, he said he wanted to keep him fresh for runs, but doesn’t use his backup RB’s? Using Dalton Schultz to solo block DE’s when his blocking issues were well documented. Bobby tried to run a system and could not adapt to his personal. Bobby fired Bobby
So many guys don’t truly know football. They have connections and get in the door and learn a system, but that’s all they know. Copy and paste. When something doesn’t fit or work they are clueless
Bobby made no adjustments. couldn’t even scheme to score in second half. He didn’t know how to scheme CJ to a short game to make up for bad OL play. Even at the start of the year, with all the weapons, the offense was underperforming. That’s not lack of talent, that’s lack of coaching.
The one bad move was trading away the 1st Round Pick should've been a WR Brian Thomas Jr. Instead trade that pick for a 30 year old Stefon Diggs who had a season ending knee injury. The Jacksonville Jaguars selected that Texans pick got a WR Brian Thomas Jr.
I always thought that was a stupid trade. Texans would have had arguably the 3 best receivers in the NFL with Thomas and would be set at receiver for years.
They got Lassiter though, key part of the defense. Without him, we would have Stingley and that's it, so teams would just throw to their wr2 covered by Jeff Okudah or something. Also Diggs was playing really well until his injury.
Well after seeing CJ having problems mentally on the field when things are going bad, which also led to poor play, I'm good with CJ having a say if it helps him get his mind right. We need him to he comfortable on the field if that means getting a different voice in his ear. Is it fair? Probably not. But idc about being fair i care about the team's success and CJ is obviously a huge part of their success and failures. I also trust DeMeco and Nick to keep a good culture no matter what CJ has a say in, if this was Dallas or the Jets somewhere like that then it would be an issue but not under those two leading the organization
I kinda like jeff nixon, syracuse was the number 1 offense in college last year. it’s an intriguing name and his scheme made kyle mccord look competent
CJ ain’t the type to push back. His regression was ALL Slowik and that bullsh***t o line fault. CJ was out there doing what he was told to do and coached to do
The question of who really got Slowik fired, that would be the GM Nick Casario.. why? He is the one who gets the talent for the team.. he makes the deals to bring people in.. As soon as Diggs went down, there should have been a push to get another player of the same caliper in to replace Diggs for the rest of the year.. a player like DeAndre Hopkins and or OBJ, would have been some good choices.. but nobody was given to help this offense to have the weapons it needs to succeed.. then we had another WR with an injury, not as severe, but still was out for about 4 games or so.. that was Nico Collins, out for about 4 games.. still we brought nobody in, then when we had the division sowed up, we played the starters and got Dell injured and out for the rest of the season and still they brought nobody in.. DeAndre had already been snatched up by KC.. they loose Wide Receivers and they go out and get replacements, they do not leave Mahomes without wide receivers to throw to.. all year long it was the same thing.. the total refusal to bring anyone in to help on offense.. when the Texans were winning all their games, they had their wide receivers.. when they lost them so did they also loose most of their games.. and then on top of all this, the OL was just trash and again we refused to go get anyone to help.. I would have gone to Dallas and seen if I could have gotten two players in a big deal.. before Zack Martin got injured, I would have looked to get him and WR we all know Brandon Cooks.. who played here last year with CJ Stroud.. that would have been a good move.. it would have helped both the OL and the WR position.. but we did nothing to help CJ.. and how this season turned out was NOT the fault of CJ Stroud.. and I recall last year when we went into the off season and free agency came around, I wanted the Texans to go get TE Noah Fant who was a free agent.. and I was willing to allow Dalton Schultz to go find another team.. but we blew that as well.. Schultz did very little this year.. Every good team has a very good TE.. we have never had one.. ever!! And I will leave that there..
Nick Caserio made some bad moves trading 1st round draft picks for a 30 year old receiver we should have hired Cliff Kingsbury Slovik has a defensive mentality as an offensive coordinator the moment was too big for him
Texans fans during the season: FIRE SLOWIK Texans fans the SECOND he actually gets fired: It wasnt his fault hes a scapegoat it wasnt his fault his entire team was hurt
Go listen to what Aaron Wilson said and maybe others. You can’t always get your information from one source people. Lance isn’t the only one covering the Texans. And he said they had a heated exchange pre draft. The other stuff is mad up.
Does it really matter? If blocking schemes are too complicated to implement, then they are not good. You get stuff right, then add as you progress in your completion rate and reliability
Love Charlie, but false. CJ is a made man. He's the franchise guy and you create an arranged marriage for the team success. It should be his approval to sign off of, various candidates.
Oh and those players' meetings? You think they were talking about the defense? Nope, it was the offense, the OL penalties, the blocking. I bet many on the offense were frustrated too.
Good. DeMeco should have done it midseason. Obvious Slowik could not scheme versus good defenses. You can bet CJ was frustrated with the offense. Especially as he had asked Slowik to incorporate plays he had seen other teams run.
You can give Doug Pederson a try. He has a lot of experience, even a super bowl run. I'm tried of experiments OC. Need a real OC. Chip Kelly also an option.
Pleasantly surprised that our front office seems to be in go mode and is making changes...would love to see a more complete offense next year and a still-dominant defense. Good work as usual y'all.
Ah Joe Mixon was an outstanding PU , Stephon Diggs was also till he got Hurt , Brevin Jordan went down that hurt TEs group , and Tank Dell went down . Texans had a Good Offense . Except the OL .
We have WR depth. Slowik didn't know how to create good routes combinations. Our line was good, better than the year before. But preformed much worse which is why Strausser was fired.
Texans had the same season 2 years in a row win the division and beat a terrible team in a home playoff game and lose the next playoff road game if you can not win on the road in the playoffs your not winning the Superbowl never
@ Now look deeper, Stroud as we saw last year processed at an incredibly high speed and progressed to 3rd and 4th reads in route progressions. Look at the lack of tempo, quick developing plays, the many times the offense gets to the line with just enough time to snap the ball. One of the negative side effects of a QB being shell shocked is he stops reacting to the pressure he feels and begins anticipating it. When this happens he takes his eyes off down field route progressions and looks at the pass rush, limiting the number of reads. Look at his footwork from last year, his throwing motion. Now compare that to this year. This was a complete failure from a schematic standpoint OC, offensive line coach, QB coach. Slowik in the off season had CJ running a drill where he stood in the pocket and held the ball, until Slowik told him to throw. What he should have done was leave CJ’s playing style alone, and have him study various blitz packages and call proper protections, but Bobby just wasn’t that smart.
You can't get off the ball quick when you can't even call the audible because they're taking too long to give him the play call. We talked about the quarterback getting rid of the ball quick but if he has no options the only choice is to run or scramble to find the open man
24:02 … or u bring slowick back and get a GM that doesn’t soecialize in picking 2 and 3 overall and trading away high rd draft picks and hoards 6th and 7th rd picks. You know a GM that can get an O line built to keep CJ upright. I mean if Rick smith was dumb enuff to build the best o line in franchise history in 2 yrs. I’m sure someone else can do better than what caserio did in 4 yrs
You adjust your scheme to a weak offensive line. Slowick didn't and got CJ's head taken off. A good coach adjusts to the personnel they have that week, be it who's on the roster or injury adjustments. When your offensive line sucks you get fast passes to keep them from blitzing. Not long ass passes that take eternity to develop
@ I don’t care how much lipstick u put on a pig u ain’t getting me to smash. A bad offense with a horrible Oline is a Chris Palmer offense. Don’t act like yall forgot what a bad offense really look like
The one bad move was trading away the 1st Round Pick should've been a WR Brian Thomas Jr. Instead trade that pick for a 30 year old Stefon Diggs who had a season ending knee injury. The Jacksonville Jaguars selected that Texans pick got a WR Brian Thomas Jr.
@ one of many could have also got a sign and trade for Higgins who was in the middle of bumping heads with the bengals. Perfect scenario to take him off their hands
Remember all those teams that passed on Lassiter because of his 40 times? You can play hindsight all you want but Nick is a great GM. Comparing him to Obrien in that role is ridiculous.
@ a great GM huh, wow Rick smith was a 💩 GM because he signed Ahman Green in his first year here, but drafting glover quin in the fourth don’t make him great. Meanwhile Caserio can hire David Culley to make JJ and Deshaun want a trade, and wait for Deshaun’s value to drop and give JJ away for absolutely nothing and yall treat him like a great GM. That’s wild
Strausser was the fall guy, Slowik was the lynchpin. Finally someone who gets it
Trouble with Slowbum?!?! Wonder why?
Perfectly put
So many guys don’t truly know football. They have connections and get in the door and learn a system, but that’s all they know. Copy and paste. When something doesn’t fit or work they are clueless
Excellent analysis good to know I’m not the only one thinking their wasting talent
Slow got his self fired. Not CJ, Not Meco, Not the Oline
Glad to see a Sportsmap Texans video. Thanks Guys.

Yeah that’s not where it all went bad.
I always thought that was a stupid trade. Texans would have had arguably the 3 best receivers in the NFL with Thomas and would be set at receiver for years.
They got Lassiter and a 1 year Diggs rental. So far Lassiter looks worthy of our original pick.
True story my Texans Brother
They got Lassiter though, key part of the defense. Without him, we would have Stingley and that's it, so teams would just throw to their wr2 covered by Jeff Okudah or something. Also Diggs was playing really well until his injury.

CJ is that guy and just like Cj Jdaniels will have a similar year next when they get a 1st place schedule . CJ is a top tier QB
Where is the Rockets podcast?! You guys have good chemistry and the team is doing really well.
Check out the Locked on Rockets podcast. Jackson Gatlin is a solid pod host!
I kinda like jeff nixon, syracuse was the number 1 offense in college last year. it’s an intriguing name and his scheme made kyle mccord look competent
Bobby "FIRED " Bobby!...😂😂😂
Kingbery was Patrick Mahomes coach at Texas Tech
We should of got him last year
And the QB coach for Case Keenum at UH
And he's from New Braunfels
CJ ain’t the type to push back. His regression was ALL Slowik and that bullsh***t o line fault. CJ was out there doing what he was told to do and coached to do
Almost all of Kyle’s OC tree struggled this season because the league has caught up with it.

Owen Daniels. Bobby got Bobby fired. How many times do you need to see a bubble screen fail before you stop calling them?
Well said
Bobby is good in theory but not in applications. OC roll is too big for him
Nick Caserio made some bad moves trading 1st round draft picks for a 30 year old receiver we should have hired Cliff Kingsbury Slovik has a defensive mentality as an offensive coordinator the moment was too big for him

I want out of the Shanahan tree entirely please.
Case Keenum for OC
The Texans literally need to Draft 3 - 6'4 WR with Speed, Strong, Physically imposing.
Draft a 6'5 Speed, Strong Tight End, 3 OL
We never picked up any good players to replace our injured receivers ...Our GM also fucked the team as well...

Himself Bobby slowick
Should've cut that check with barkley..😂
Klint Kubiak
Rick Dennison???
Bobby got himself fired….his failure to improve the OL play & not play call for the ineptness is why he’s gone….plain n simple
GM responsible for o-line selections
What do OC's, as a rule, make per year? Anyway, any idea what BS was making as Texans' OC? Thank you.
Slowick got a raise in the off-season making $1.5M I believe. Highest paid OC in nfl is around $3M
@@LouTheFoo559 and at 1.5, it was still too much for the offense to look as anemic as it did at times.
Our strength and development personnel need to go! We can't stay healthy. Nobody looks at them!
Finally yall came back to cover this
The only team that can beat the Kansas City Chiefs are the old New England Patriots with Bill, Brady, Gronk , Edelman, James White and company
Bobby got himself fired
Kaimi has to go also

Slowik was a terrible OC!!!
He a bum play calling was worst in
18:52 wait for it 19:09 im sure it does, but we’ll never shake that tree. If u wanna get paid gotta stay silent
A lot of strouds sacks this year was because stroud held the ball too long, a la David Carr.
Not most.
