This is a funeral, instead of making people sad play music and let the loved one pass on into the beyond give him/her a great send off.i need a funeral like this but if i told my parents they'd think I'm crazy.
Man I know what you mean, that the kind I want. I can just see my Irish Catholic family and a funeral like that. The only other thing I like, is have a black lady with her beautiful voice to sing a closer walk with thee, as the dixieland music plays it.
This is how my grandfather wants his funeral. At first i was mortified but then he explained he wants it to be a celebration of his life, and for everyone to be thankful he will no longer be suffering.
What a beautifully, unique American tradition. The grandiose musical and visual display is to ward off evil spirits so the departed can rest in peace. It's a great way to respect the deceased. I would love this at my own funeral. You don't have to be sad! It's alright, have some fun!
When you explain it this way, I find it easier to understand. It is part of a belief system. When my parents died, I emotionally disassociated myself. My feelings have been numb ever since. I am very stoic now. I find it easier to cope this way.
My mom always said she wanted this when she passed....and when she did on Jan 9 1995 we played it. This weekend I really miss her . Thanks for the upload . I just searched new orleans funeral...
When I pass on I want my loved ones to celebrate my life and not mourn my death. This is an amazing way to do that. It’s a beautiful celebration of life.
I am not from NOLA, been a Yankee my whole life but this is a send off, epic! Its hard not to be overcome by grief but celebrating one's life instead of mourning death is so much better. Also, not to get political but if more races and cultures could be more nicer to one another mutually then peace on earth would be alot easier. Coming together in celebration of life through music and togetherness is amazing.
Stumbled upon this and what a Second Line send off! I miss NOLA, and I hope that one day, when I pass on, that a second line is done for me also. Thank you for the video!
Luv it luv it!!! This makes me wanna travel to NOLA and second line. I come from a Mexican background, we too celebrate funerals with live music when possible. I would want this. I've enjoyed all my family parties and would love a last party...
Lay down our cares and woes , and STUDY WAR NO MORE..........Going to put on my long white gown.........down by the riverside.. Hey, like after a traditional kind of funeral & some memorial service ...when I pass on (and Lord willing none too soon)...........I would LOVE TO BE ABLE TO KNOW that FAMILY AND FRIENDS CAN DANCE AND SING and LAUGH AND WHOOP it up...............HAVE A GREAT TIME at this 'kid's " "GOING AWAY PARTY". (I borrowed that phrase, but really like it and mean this, too.)
Wait a tic , did deacon joined in on sax!?! And then dropped the invoice for services rendered on the way around the casket?! This is just to memorable I love it!
I love love love it -- it truly is a celebration of life -- celebrating the energy - no more pain and suffering -- When the saints come marching in -- Just a closer walk with thee -- down by the riverside -- are all traditional songs with a twist. I am a social butterfly and event planner for life -- I celebrate and enjoy life -- have made so many people happy -- planned lots of events and parties -- I tell my kids, and it is written, that I want a celebration sort of like this -- my question is -- I am a native of Washington, DC -- would it be disrespectful to the New Orleans culture for me to have it this way?
Now I know how I am going to leave this world..... This what I want when I pass. This is not the end. We will see each other again in the other side so is just a good by.......a joyful one..
Lol, I could just see my grandmother, if she had not already passed at my funeral like that. And boy what she would have said lol. Be being Irish Catholic and a funeral like that.
this is what I so want when my time comes instead of people all standing around acting sad like so many funerals I been to.......and I want mine to be like this because when my time is up....it is a happy moment...no more living in this world of evil, lies, corruption, killing, lying political leaders, communism being called democracy ...no when my trials in this cruel world is over its off to to where the soul never dies....where the angels will be singing and where no more tears will ever be cried...no more hurting no more sickness, no more pain.....I'll be singing in my Lords choir and I will suffer no more when my trials end.....none of us will if we know the Lord...and that is how I want...and I wish my family could understand.....when my time comes be happy for me...I am going to meet my Lord
It's definitely not possible in Malaysia (or at least within the Malay diaspora). In the Malay world they take death seriously, regardless of religion. That's what I've gathered from all my family's Christian and Muslim funerals I've attended. As a Tuba player, I so want this at my funeral.
About the video you posted “ too black to be white too white to be black “ Those men with the last name Dupre have the same last name from me. I’m also Creole. We might be related 😂
This is very different from what marching bands here in the Philippines do. Most of the time they play sad melodies, on some occasions play it at a much faster tempo. And will play some of the deceased favorite song (if possible by request). But definitely won't do this especially dance around the casket.. This is some kind of tradition that's new to me. And I think I wanna die like this..
Actually, during the procession to the grave site sad or somber music is played by the band. Once the priest has completed the rites and blessing during interment, then the band plays happy upbeat music to celebrate the life of our loved one. We dance with umbrellas and wave handkerchiefs to joyfully send them to the afterlife. This is the tradition of the New Orleans Jazz Funeral. I am current uploading full video of my aunt's funeral from this past Monday showing the whole ceremony ua-cam.com/video/10bqs_mQdxs/v-deo.html I highly recommend searching for more New Orleans Jazz funeral videos. There are some wild ones out there! Especially the ones where "rock the casket". They actually carry the casket through the street where the deceased lived ua-cam.com/video/VhcinJ03idI/v-deo.html
Shame so many oblivious to the fact that they are stepping on the headstones of others . . . ultimate disrespect. Even the preacher did it at one point!
People casually stepping on gravestones is bizarre to me. It is considered a sin and disrespect to the dead to step on their grave stones in many cultures.
They will be happy to hear the celebration of love for another that has come to join them in the very quietude that they normally repose in. I would be honored to hear life dancing on my grave. Like old friends knocking on the door. It is not out of disrespect but out of great respect of another who was well loved and cherished that has come to join them. Every death should be a party that is celebrating the life that once was. That is the circle of life and death. And life once again.
Oh I love it! Even the clergy is playing the sax! Rejoice! Your loved one has passed onto Glory!

Uh, all depends where Grandfather or any of you are going!
God bless you Muriel of new Orleans. 1 hour gone. I feel you!!!!

You all better read up on the Bible. Alot of you all have no idea what your talking about!
When you explain it this way, I find it easier to understand. It is part of a belief system. When my parents died, I emotionally disassociated myself. My feelings have been numb ever since. I am very stoic now. I find it easier to cope this way.
The fact that the priest gets into this makes my day :)
ChapmaniacPictures Fr. Joseph Idomele!
Cheers for the info :)
this exactly is how i want my funeral to be
New Orleans funerals are like this all the time. It’s quite the celebration of the deceased individuals life. Such a wonderful event. :)
Me too
My mom always said she wanted this when she passed....and when she did on Jan 9 1995 we played it. This weekend I really miss her . Thanks for the upload . I just searched new orleans funeral...
Literally dancing on graves. Outstanding.
Wow... there should be more funerals like this...
I worked funerals for forty years.
Boring!
Now this is the way to go out.
Wow what a great celebration of life!

Very Beautiful.
I really need to tell my kids that this is how I wanna go out. Dirge at the top end, party hard at the end. Sounds good to me.
That's going in style.
I want that someday.....
Such a special celebration of life and this is how I am gonna go, even if it kills me x

Um dia hora vai chegar eu quero ir assim como muito estilo e jazz funeral
I want tears of joy, not tears of sorrow at my funeral!
Well, after all, everybody remembers a good party more than a sad funeral.....
Cuando me toque irme de este mundo asi quiero que me despidan. No es el final, solo es otro paso mas, de vernos tenemos en el otro lado.
Great band I've worked with them before!
This made me smile even though this is a funeral :D
meu funeral sera assim
I hope I am ushered into the soil below in this very same manner.
Where I end up after has yet to be determined.
I will love this either way!!!
離苦得樂
leave the pain and always happy!
Great musik. Greetings from Germany
How can I get in contact with this band I’d love to support a group like this and even play with them
Magnifique. Cela doit nous rappeller à tous que la mort n'est pas une finalité mais une continuité.
You can tell that most people attending the funeral prolly aren't from around here. Lol. That all looked afraid.
Amazed I should say.
Yep! Some have moved from New Orleans and they have distanced themselves from things that are indigenous New Orleans.
Lol, I could just see my grandmother, if she had not already passed at my funeral like that. And boy what she would have said lol. Be being Irish Catholic and a funeral like that.
What are the umbrellas about ?
So sollten sich gute Menschen verhalten die an ihr ewiges Leben glauben!

As a joke we have,in Russia,buried the mother-in-law,broke 3 of the accordion!))))
It's very funny this funeral. In Spain this funeral isn't possible. Thank You :)
why is it not possible in Spain? I am curious.
in Italy too, it is not possible. I did not know that in New Orleans people play this kind of music at the funerals.
It's definitely not possible in Malaysia (or at least within the Malay diaspora). In the Malay world they take death seriously, regardless of religion. That's what I've gathered from all my family's Christian and Muslim funerals I've attended.

Play this at my funeral
Why are people using umbrellas? Is it because it's raining or is it dry and it's a tradition to open an umbrella at a funeral?
To protect you from the heat, but we make them beautiful and fancy.
About the video you posted “ too black to be white too white to be black “ Those men with the last name Dupre have the same last name from me. I’m also Creole. We might be related 😂
Who's the name of the song after When The Saints Go Marching in?
Down By The Riverside
What song did they played??
Eso si es una despedida con estilo! No se si reír o 😢.

A real good way of sending off someone... I actually hate the sad melodies, those songs made me even more depressed and sad. Thanks for the info..
I wish people would not walk on top of graves.Thank You God Bless You
I want . Let, the rytem make the living feel alive. We all meet later. :-)
Life is a carnival !

I want this for my funeral, except for the dude clapping out of rhythm, I'm sure there'll be several there already filling that spot
Olá ,eu gostei achei muito bonito, pois a morte pra nós que cremos em Deus não é o fim,mas apenas uma etapa da caminhada com Deus
Aren't they supposed to be waving white handkerchiefs...???
Not at a funeral.
Shame so many oblivious to the fact that they are stepping on the headstones of others . . . ultimate disrespect. Even the preacher did it at one point!
Some will plug their ears.
People casually stepping on gravestones is bizarre to me. It is considered a sin and disrespect to the dead to step on their grave stones in many cultures.
This is absolutely the way to get sent off!!!
i want to die that way,
Way to Brighton up a funeral😪
Ok now
