David is singing his version with more fire and passion in his voice, Teddy (With Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes) holds up good, more suductive and sensual with the background harmonies. Both Teddy and David are two of the greatest voices in Soul.
Teddy Pendergrass sings it like his heart is breaking. He is begging. David Ruffin sings it with a different feel. I love both versions. These two men were legends.
Yeah that's the only way to get people to believe you. He experienced it before and probably numerous times... But because of that ole "a man ain't supposed to cry" and " Man up" shit that we been told for years, we would never know. But yeah Teddy was hurting. So was David though, but Teddy was hurting. You felt for him and felt it hard. It got in your soul..... That's why Teddy's was a hit while David's wasn't well known unless you was a teenager in the 60s and listened to him more
Teddy is one of the greatest soul singers of all time..but David Ruffin got him on this song, his passion growl soul and adlibs made u feel like he really hurting. He made u believe that every word he was saying he meant.
I grew up in Philly so I only heard Teddy's version for many years. When I heard David's I was shocked!! Both are amazing, but David Ruffin makes you feel the loss most.
@@mmoxam6963 Damn good observation then addAli Woodson and of course Levi Stubb's and we will turn this mother out. Love those soul singers and those are some of the best.
as a Elder let me say this David Ruffin was the Temptations.period Dennis was good but didn't have David's passion and that voice unmatched when our men loved us when we had unity and respected each other and 30 years later I miss you Craig you still oh lawd. this is music this is talent
I miss Harvey Holliday who really kept the memory of The Man With The Glasses alive. Never forget he said Since I Lost My Baby was the perfect song and that struck me and I thought yea who can argue with that?
I'm Speechless!! 🙊 I had no clue that Fine A$$ David Ruffin❤ did a rendition of "I Miss You" David can SANG!!! I knew that Teddy sang the song, with his Fine A$$!😍❤ These Brothers can Sang!! RIH🙏🙏
Both are excellent in their own way. Let's give it to Mr David Ruffin, yes indeed his passion, growl, soulful sound and adlibs made you feel his pain, he was really hurting inside from a long time pain that simply did not go away in his lifetime on earth. Every word he sang was saying I meant what I sing to you, My Queen, the one and only Mrs Sandra Ruffin
David doing it again letting it all hang out no body can beat him.Teddy did a great job. David got this one. the pain crying the feeling he made you feel it better then Teddy.two different styles I love both of them. RIP guys
The samples from the girl in David's version and the pain and regret in his voice speak to me. Teddy's version is more romantic and dreamy. Both are incredible works of art thank you for this video
Even if never ever in your life you’ve felt pain, heartache or loss....listen to Ruff and he’ll instruct you on exactly what to feel. After listening to any of his songs, you’ll find yourself saying “damn, if my heart was broken, I think I’d feel the way he sounds”....Even when he’s sings a song intended to bring happiness, you hear his raw heartbreak and emotion. Ruff brought it every time he stood in front of a mic. He is vocally bleeding out on this cut and we’re all a witness to it
I disagree, Teddy gave me *ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL OF THAT* feeling, yearning & pain & did it far better, as he should, *IT'S HIS SONG!* David's version was ok, *NOTTTTTT GREAT!!!!!* Maybe I'm a Teddy-nite bcuz he's from *my generation* & one of the icons of my era. I grew up to I Miss You, Be For Real, Bad Luck, The Love I Lost, Hope That We Can Be Together Soon, You Know How To Make Me Feel So Good, Wake Up Everybody, to his solo career, The Whole Town's Laughing At Me, I Don't Love You Anymore, Close The Door, Turn Off The Lights, etc! I prefer David. He was so great at articulating emotion no matter what he sang. It legitimately sounds like he has doubled over in pain. The wailing in the very beginning, that outright scream toward the ending. It's raw, it's real, and it's beautiful. His improvisations were great. The only thing I feel like his version could have done without was the talking woman, but that was the '70s lol. Can't take anything away from Teddy. I love the key of his version most, and those background vocals...forget about it. RIP to both of these guys. Legends have never sounded so good.
Without that annoying woman in the background .Takes away from Ruffin's version evenso he manages to pull it off. Its no contest Ruffin just sounds better.
