- The SAMAYA 2.0 - 4 Season Single Skin Tent CONDENSATION Tested in heavy rain with zero wind... Is this the first single skin tent to totally eliminate condensation? I also discuss the vestibule space and interior length of the tent as that's what you guys wanted in the comments.... All The Very Best Tom

We breath out almost a pint of water at night through skin and breath .
If it gets trapped inside the tent it will be the thing that makes you cold at night
I open up the doors as much as possible even on a frozen night because I know I'll be warmer than keeping that moisture inside the tent.
My current tent I can keep the front door open about the size of a head without rain getting in or a compromise in strength . This opening keeps 90 percent of that moisture vented . I've also taken to lighting a candle in the front of the tent in an old can of sweet corn .. this makes the entire inside walls dry in the morning .
But if I'm honest I nearly always blow out any candle just before I sleep . But some nights doing time lapses from the doorway I can leave it burn all night long.
These little changes helped me get rid of a sleeping bag altogether this winter . I used only a liner and some clothes.
This happened cause I found getting out in the middle of the night I froze just going to the loo .
Thanks for the review
Hey, great to hear your thoughts and your system for sleeping..Yes ventilation is the key as prevention always better than cure... Once things get damp then hard to recover.... All The Very Best and thank you for taking the time to leave a detailed comment... Tom

It's so hard to do a review that treats with all conditions . You're up against it .
Be well , I appreciate you effortless efforts
Tent looks good Tom, love the height of the bathtub and how well it sits up, 👍🙏
Hey Sam I hope that you are well and great to hear from you.... Yeah I noticed that too but forgot to mention.... It is really high and well cut... The Dyneema DCF fabric is very thick and a bit rigid on the floor and this helps its shape..... Great that you noticed.... All The Very Best. Tom
This tent really impresses me. I do think this single wall fabric is the future. Thank you very much for testing.😍😍😍
Hi Walter, I was very impressed here.. The fact that the inner of the vestibule was soaking demonstrated how much condensation there was... But when I touched the inner fabric of the membrane there just wasn't any... It's good enough for me so I will be trying to acquire one.... All The Very Best and thank you for watching and taking the time to comment... Tom
Hi Tom. Great to see an actual field test on condensation rather than the usual boiling water steam test! Very impressed with the apparent lack of condensation. I could see myself using this tent, but minus the vestibule. I wouldn’t like to try and attach it in high wind and severe cold. Pitched foot end on into wind I’m sure it could take significant wind loading. Weakness would be the large unsupported labels at front and rear. Straying off topic a bit, on this. Condensation wise that’s a major plus point for this single skin membrane. Good job as always 👍
Hey Gary, great to hear you thoughts thank you.. I can see me using a tent like this too.. it would work in many of our types of camps.. Minus that vestibule its 1.4kg for a pretty strong tent.. Yes the side wall has not much support but there are a lot of tents like this and I think for all but the worst wind it would be ok. Again a very good strength to weight to space ratio... Thank you for watching and commenting once again.... All the very best.. Tom
The transpiration rate of the main compartment seems pretty good. What a light and open environment inside the tent, it looks very comfortable. 👍
Hey Shamus, great to hear your thoughts 💭🤔.. Yes I was impressed by the main tent moisture transfer. I had a really comfortable nights sleep 😴 with all the space and storage options for my gear.. Personally I love the color combinations in this tent. So different from the usual green red or sand... All the very best Tom
Great review, thanks! I was particularly impressed that the foot of your sleeping bag didn't get very damp brushing against the wall of the tent like that. I would have predicted you'd wake up sopping wet. Hopefully as these materials become more common the prices will get more reasonable.
Hi Jean really great to hear from you.. A very fair and relevant comment thank you.. Yes a little dampness camp from the bottom of the bag touching the DCF ground sheet as it's quite high up the walls. If the bag was touching the breathable fabric then I reckon it would have been even dryer... Pricey enough but very different and a lot of great reading on the Samaya website even down to the brand name and the choice of symbol for the brand image. I understand and respect that this won't mean a lot to many but I honestly kind of fall for it..,,,🤣😂
Thank you Tom! Very interesting. I think this one could even challenge my beloved Unna. The only thing that I didn’t like was the velcro fasteners for the vestibule. Velcro means short life time to me. Again, excellent review Tom! Keep it up. 👏👏👏
Hey thank you for watching and supporting my channel, I really appreciate it...Yeah same pole structure, height, width but 10 cm shorter. The end walls are very vertical so this helps with internal length.... The Velcro's go on very easily and have a decent contact surface area... Not sure how they would wear over time but the fact that the fly is buckled at the bottom and there are 3 Velcro's on each side this spreads any force very well..... Hey All The Very Best.. Tom
Very impressive looking tent. Thank you for testing. 👍
Hey Mark, thank you for watching and taking the time to leave me a comment.. I really enjoyed this test and was very impressed by the lack of condensation.. All the very best. Tom
Must be a really good tent if it impressed Tom, would like to see Tom wind test it and really put it through it's paces. Great video as always
Hey Seamus, I hope that you are well..Yes I had such a comfortable camp with the space and practical vestibule in this tent.. Zero condensation was a big bonus.. It has to go back I am afraid and the wind has been letting me down recently. I think I must have frightened it off as a always beat it... All the very best.. Tom
Thumbs up if you think Tom deserves to keep this tent!
Thank you Tom for finally providing us with a proper review and detailed description of this rather undercommunicated but highly interesting tent. You just did Samaya a big favour. -T
Hey thank you for your thoughts 💭... I hear you might already own a Samaya??? I hope that you enjoyed this review and found it a fair test for the tent.. All the very best Tom
Hey Tom. Another great review with a lesser known brand. Really good to see the advances manufactures have taken in technology and in this case, weight and condensation. Keep up the great work and I hope you can get your hands on one.
Hey Barry I hope you are well and always great to hear from you.. I hope you are looking forward to your trip to Europe.. You should look at the information on the SAMAYA 🕸️ website as it's great to understand what's behind the brand.. All the very best.. Tom
@@TOMHEANEY100 Thanks Tom. Yes, I’m looking forward to our Euro adventure. It should be a fun time. All the best.
Good vid, good test. I like that tent as well. Could be a tad longer but the big open doors good acces and exit room. Not a bad place to hole up and make a brew. Take care.
Hey Sam my friend how are you doing? Great to hear from you and your thoughts. Yes I found it extremely comfortable and the length fine for me as the sides walls are very vertical at the bottom... All the very best take care.. Tom
Great film Tom. Interesting field test of the tent.
Thanks

Thank you Phil.. Yes a good test for condensation..
It looks.more interesting now it’s dry inside, shame it’s not longer ,
Keep em coming
Cheers
Thanks, will do! Mountain Hopper.. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.. All the very best.. Tom
I had and loved the olde mountain hardwear EV3 tent. It was hard trying to explain to people that being single skin and a high altitude tent..you have to keep the vents open...but they say it gets cold...but the tent was designed for people at high altitudes so they would be wearing a 8000 meter suit or at least parka inside a -20 degree bag so the wind doesn't bother you......I ran into a guy that had one in Peru in the summer he said it was raining in the tent...lol
Hey thanks for the comments and sharing your experience... I definitely will be giving single wall tents a go as I genuinely never get condensation where I camp anyway due to the high winds.. All the very best. Tom
Excellent review and nice with the interior shots it gives a good feeling for the inside space
I guess the breathable fabric is working - please make more condensation videos 😊
Hey Hans, thank you for watching and commenting on the video.. Always great to hear your thoughts... I haven't forgotten about your last email so sorry to take so long to reply.. Heading off on holiday for a few weeks and had to get these videos done and up on UA-cam.. All the very best... Tom
Great video Tom, can't wait to see it in the wind, plus I love the add-on vestibule versatility. As many others have noted, not sure about the colourways . Maybes an acquired taste.
Hi Dave great to hear from you and your thoughts 💭.. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment in my videos.. I have always liked tents that are two colours right back to my Terra Nova Yellow and silver quasars and North Face tents.. The tent definitely feels very rigid for a two pole tent.. All the very best.. Hope dog is well... Tom
Nice to see how it performs away from it’s designed environment of the dry mountains. Windy conditions shouldn’t be an issue but the vestibule maybe a different matter.
Hi Mike I appreciate your comment and thoughts 💭.. The Vestibule is supported by a very long pole which could bend and flex.. It does however have great guy line attachments which add to its stability... All the very best Tom
@@TOMHEANEY100 excellent. I’m really keeping an eye on your testing of this tent as I’ve checked it out for some time now.
Yeah, this looks good. I’m keen to see this one on a longer trip, see how it performs Tom.
Thanks for the review mate.
Hi Dougie great to hear from you... It's in the post I am afraid back to Samaya as they sent it to me to review.. I think 💬 it would work well as the single skin easy to dry if it gets wet and you are not trying to manage an inner and outer.. The main fabric also didn't absorb any water here so not any heavier packing away.. I hope you are well.. All the very best Tom
@@TOMHEANEY100 I am well mate, recovering from my WHW failure. The Enan was getting battered by the wind, a toenail has lifted off and I’d sprained my ankle. I took the wrong mat and quilt so I was freezing. All in all a disaster but we learn from our failures. 😂 Hope you’re well too my friend.
@@dougieranger Flip that's not great.. I hope the tent took no damage and your ankle sorts itself soon.. Gear choice is always tricky.. One little mistake and you can have an uncomfortable night.. Happened to me many times.. Take care and talk soon.. Tom
@@TOMHEANEY100 All good now Tom, a couple of days relaxing and I’ll be fine. I took the summer Nemo Tensor and the Cumulus 350 Quilt, bad choices. 😂
@@dougieranger good to hear you are aware of cumulus.. They used to be great value here in the UK but the climalite jacket has gone up for example from 145 to 200 just because of Brexit....
Hei, Ive watched your reviews, and Ive read Samayas website about this 2.0 tent, so I decided to buy one. The pink one with dyneema footprint. 2 nights ago, I went camping with my German shepherd ( the tent size for a 160cm tall female, 30kg dog, and 75-liter back pack was just about right. No complaints on that), but my disagreement on your review is about CONDENSATION. It was actually bad. In fact, I had to dry it 2-3 times during the night otherwise it will start dripping every time we shake the tent. Honestly, the 4 sides of the wall condensed like my cheap summer pop up tent. No kidding. The worst condensation occurred on the walls on my head and feet ( the pink side wall or in your tent here, the blue sides ). I was camping without the vestibule in perfect sunny weather, 1000 meters above sea level, here in Norway. Although, my floor remains dry , but the dyneema footprint probably caught most of the moisture. I wasn't soaking wet, despite the situation as my sleeping bag, mat, etc are hydrophobic...still, it was your review who actually inspired me to actually throw a huge chunk of money into buying this tent, but your review about CONDENSATION here is a bit off, or where on earth did you pitched your tent? For the price of this tent, it holds condensation just like the cheap mediocre tents. In the next and future challenges : strong wind, heavy rain, let's see if your words are true, for now I didn't get THAT wow expectations about Samaya 2.0. Definitely condensation for single skin tents regardless the price is pretty much the same.
Hi Joy.
First of all I am really sorry to hear of your camping experience in the Samaya 2.0. You have spent a lot of money and should be delighted in your purchase and not disappointed.
All I can do in my videos is share my experience and present video evidence of my findings. I have just re watched all of this video and I have been very clear regarding my findings.. I showed the camping location, you heard the rain, you saw the lack of wind, I deliberately picked as challenging an evening for condensation as I could based on where I live, and I clearly showed the results in the morning. I even demonstrated the condensation on the vestibule...
This tent inspired me to select the Samaya Assaut 2 8K with half the breathability rating on the fabric. I have now camped 6 times in this tent completely condensation free and demonstrated this with 3 reviews and field tests (not many UA-camrs do 3 field tests on tents). I measure wind speed to demonstrate true honest wind performance so I cant do any more regarding reviewing tents.
This video demonstrates my experience and thoughts on what I felt and saw during this camp. Again I am so sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience. I am not going to tell you how to avoid condensation as there are so many things to consider and some nights can just catch out any tent.
I really hope that you find a solution..
best wishes Tom
@@TOMHEANEY100 Samaya should have a warranty. I'll go check on that. Yeah I saw Samaya assault 2 8k. The price is too steep for me for what am I doing.... I do not camp hardcore like Everest level. But thank you for the info....you'll never know, I might get tempted to check it out. Comfort is still nice to have against the harsh elements in the wild. :-)
@@uncutjoy2727 Hi Joy.. Really sorry I wasn't trying to push you towards the Assaut2.. I was just sharing my experience with it and the lack of condensation.. It's technically only half as breathable.. I would definitely approach Samaya if you are not happy but as I said sometimes condensation can catch out any tent... I really do hope you can move forward positively... Best wishes Tom
Hi Tom, thanks for this, great video. I'm contemplating buying one of the range; can you share why you opted for the assault 2 8K over the Samaya 2.0? be helpful to know your reasons. They seem to be the same size, though obviously one has an end opening, and one has a side opening. Was an end opening your preference? if so why. Many thanks, Stewart @@TOMHEANEY100
@@Vxbxx Hi Stewart great to hear you are interested in a Samaya.. They are next level as far as I am concerned. My friend even got the Assaut2 after seeing mine and he was so impressed with it.. Quality is just exceptional and so is the function as I have successfully used mine on about 10 occasions.. I went for the Assaut2 as it's a little more wind resistant and I can go tail into the wind and have the narrow back exposed and the vestibule sheltered.. For the 2.0, to shelter the vestibule the rear offers much more wide tent to catch the wind if you understand.. It's worked out really well as the vestibule is superb and offers great space and protection..It's definitely my tent of choice.. I hope this helps and if you have any future questions please don't hesitate to ask.. Let me know if you decide to go for one... Best wishes Tom
Very good review, thanks a lot. Great tent... but it seems a bit too short for people over 6 foot... how unfortunate.
Hi Reto, thank you for your feedback... I demonstrated the length of the tent so that couple could make an informed decision if it was long enough for them... All the very best Tom
Very similar experience I’ve had in the mountains (sunny snowdonia 😅). I wish I had gotten the vestibule like you. But I’m fine with it.
Hey thank you for watching and leaving me a comment... The vestibule here is really great for certain conditions.... extremely spacious and comfortable. Very easy set up too. All the very best Tom
What RAB jacket are your wearing.. fantasitc that thing!!!
Great clip, thanks alot for this!
Hi, thank you for watching the video.. It's an older Rab Nutrenio.. They don't make them exactly the same anymore.. Best wishes Tom
It looks impressive. I'll still want to see reviews over time to see if it's worth dropping that sort of money on it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Hi you are welcome and thank you for your comments.. Great that you enjoyed the video... All the very best Tom
Tom great vlog as always. And I do love the tent. I have a question but it's not tent related. Can you tell me about the RAB trousers you are wearing? I'm planning a couple of weekenders camping. However, we're having our share of the rain then I noticed your trousers. Thanks Tom...
Hi no worries.. They are Rab vapour rise guide.. A great pant BUT not waterproof.. Hope that helps.. best wishes Tom
@@TOMHEANEY100 Thanks for getting back to me so fast. It helps!!
It would be interesting to see how it gets on in winter, when the inner outer temp is at its greatest difference? 👍
Hey Stephen a very relevant comment thank you.. We will have to wait a few months for that one.. All the very best Tom
Great video! Tip: Music was a bit loud at some points which made it a bit harder to figure out what you were saying.
Hi Bart, I listen to my edits multiple times making fine adjustments to the audio levels. Then when I play the video on my tv instead of my computer the volume levels between voice and music are different.. So I only have music and voice combined for very small sections. Probably not worth such effort so thank you for your thoughts I appreciate them... All the very best.. Tom
I keep saying this, interesting. Which it is, very interesting materials. Very expensive just for the tent, and I presume not the vestibule. How's it going to perform in a stiff breeze? There are some very interesting pictures on the Samaya site on pitch locations. Cheers Tom
Hi Marty, I hope that you are well and great to hear form you once again.... Yes expensive but cutting edge technology alway is and if the membrane is twice as breathable as others then this is a massive step forwards... When the tent is guyed out it is definitely very strong end to end.... all the very best Tom
Tempting... althought the price of 1600€ is quite high. It there the experience rearding the wind resitance? I am planning a two months throu trail to Iceland and such a tent would be a good idea as it is a one third weight than Hileberg Soulo BL (?)
Yeah I agree on the price but it really is cutting edge tech being X2 as breathable as anything else. Being single wall really gets the weight down and can still keep the strength up... Not just as many poles as the BL Soulo so wind resistance not quite as good taking all things into consideration. Vestibule here absolutely fab whilst BL Soulo vestibule just functional in no more.... Tough decisions... All the very best wishes.. Tom
Hi Tom, can you please tell me the total number of pegs needed for the tent and vestibule combined ?
Thank you for making all these very informative videos on Samaya. Making the choice easier.
I am guessing here as I don't have the tent anymore.. 8 for the tent body and guys.. 6 for the vestibule and guys.. I hope that helps .. best wishes Tom
@TOMHEANEY100 thank you 😁
I came across this video while looking into Samaya tents. I'm looking for a good 4 season tent for use in the winter here in the Western US, plus places like South America. I am curious what your thoughts are between this tent and the Hilleberg Jannu. I saw your video where you get buried in the Jannu and wonder if you feel like this tent could perform as well, or what kind of conditions you feel the Samaya would be a better choice than the Hille.
Hi thank you for your comments.. Thats certainly a tough question. When the Jannu got buried in the snow the weight of snow against the tent caused the outer and inner to touch over large surface areas.. This limited breathability, but in reality there are always conditions where things will get a bit damp as all tents are portable shelters of nylon and lightweight poles... I think the Samaya could have performed as well or better in this instance.. The Samaya set up here is also much lighter with a more usable vestibule than the Jannu as its bigger and runs the lull length of the tent and not just the width of the tent.. For structural strength though it would be the Jannu for me but maybe this is unfair due to the weight difference... I hope that this helps... All the very best wishes Tom
@@TOMHEANEY100 that is great to hear! I think it confirms my thoughts that Samaya could be great for light and fast assault type climbs, but for really hard conditions and maybe a base camp tent I think Hilleberg is a good safe option that is tried and true. Your videos are great and thanks so much for taking the time to give such a great response.
I'm going to need all tent makers to assume the user is 6'2"
That would help just a little more length would be perfect.. Great to hear your thoughts Matt, All the very best wishes Tom
This is a very interesting tent. I have seen mentioned before this is probably the wave of the future; with high tech, condensation eliminating, single skin tents. By having a high ceiling the feeling of open space is achieved with this type of design. Nice tent, hopefully it is a keeper.
Hi Denis I hope that you are doing well.. Yes I think we will see a lot more of this type of tent starting from now.. It has a great strength to weight to space ratio and I found it extremely comfortable to sit around in, cook and sleep 💤... Great storage and construction too so ticks many many boxes for me.. All the very best and great to hear from you once again.. Tom
I'm going to mention that the (single) vestibule isn't even a part of the tent. It's extra volume (in your definition), weight and price. Frankly, an attached vestibule has to be a basic for any 3-4 season tent.
Hi David thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts 💭. I enjoyed using the space of this vestibule for sure but personally would prefer a smaller one just to keep the weight, footprint and volume down.. But then SAMAYA have other tent options that do just that to allow for personal preference.. I am pretty sure that I mentioned the fact that the vestibule was an extra in the first look video that I did in this tent... Hey once again thank you for your comments.. All the very best.. Tom
Thanks for the intriguing review, Tom! Have you already had the chance to test the Samaya 2.0 in high winds? Being used to the insane stability of my Hilleberg Tara and Soulo BL I'm still doubting the Samaya's actual performance in stormy conditions even though it's claimed to be made for alpine mountaineering. Your assessment would make a big difference to me :)
Hey great to hear from you and your thoughts regarding the stability of this tent..It's a tough act to follow the Tarra and BL Soulo in this regard.. The 2.0 here feels strong end to end probably similar to. Hilleberg Unna but 3 or 4 poles give more support.. Unfortunately this tent is now back with Samaya before I could wind test it.. Appreciate your comments and I hope this helps.. ALL the very best wishes Tom
Many thanks for your assessment,@@TOMHEANEY100! Very much appreciated. Just one question: Do you consider to get and use the 2.0 (or another Samaya) for your own, now that you had it in your hands? Or do you even consider to replace one of your Hilleberg‘s by a Samaya? All the best
Glad to have found your channel. Thanks for the thorough review. Was the vestibule the nylon option? Or their triple priced dyneema vestibule?
Hi, Jonathan this one was just the nylon one.. All the very best Tom
Hi Tom - can u still buy the 2 different vestebuile? I think you can buy it In sil nylon or dynema ?
Yes yes dyneema for me as on a tent like this why not as it's lighter and stronger.... All the very best.. Tom
Hey there. I asked on the other video: But there is no mesh on the window, is there? It just opens completely with the one zip, and no mesh layer with a second zip?
Hi Chris, As far as I am aware you can add a mesh section for the window at the Back as it has a zipper option to do so... I cannot cover every single detail in my videos as the video would then be too long and people wouldn't watch it, so I have to pick the ones I feel are the most important and I do cover much more detail than most... best for you to check out some questions directly with Samaya as they would be better placed to answer them... best wishes once again Tom
Any thoughts on why the same breathable fabric isn’t used for the vestibule Tom? Cost, weight or both?
Hi Peter, I think you got it.... Would be very costly and probably add some weight too. Also I feel its not needed to be so breathable in the vestibule as condensation there isn't as big a problem as when its actually in the inner of the tent.. All the very best and great to hear your thoughts as you have an Unna which is almost identical in measurements apart from 10 cm longer and 1kg heavier than the Samaya if you are not using the vestibule... Tom
@@TOMHEANEY100 I just had a look at their website. With the dyneema vestibule the total weight is 1.8kg at a cost of £1800; or £1350 for the 2kg tent/nylon vestibule. Ouch! Tbh with the Unna the relatively large volume for one occupant and good venting options leads to very little condensation on the outer tent.
Hmmm… I’m a bit confused why you are trying so hard to praise this tent. It’s obvious that all the negatives are true opportunities for this company to improve on and yet after each point you try flipping it to a “no not really, but yes, sort of”. Please just say yes these are the known issues, hopefully the company will address them. 😕 paid sponsor or free maybe?
Dustin, thank you for your comments and thoughts.. It's never black and white and choice is still very personal just like whether you like my review style.. I properly tested this tent for a known area of challenge for single skin tents and clearly demonstrated the outcome.. It's up to each individual to decide whether it's for them or not.. Once again thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts..All the very best. Tom

@@TOMHEANEY100 hi Tom, I have the hilleberg enan and una in dark green. It’s a combination of looks and history of the brand that make them beautiful. Of course quality but the samaya is also a quality tent. It’s just a opinion of course, but the colors and the vestibule option, it just looks a bit messy I think 😇. I do like the simplicity of a single wall tent with the high tech fabrics 👍
