Yo of course Raz would be here watching someone give a personal, heartfelt take on games. Wish I'd caught your retweet but I'm here with the SEW gang instead. 6 months late is better than never I suppose.
Persona 5's social aspect/life exploration is genuinely incredible. I've never played Yakuza so idk how well Japan is recreated there, but IT'S SO GOOD in P5. I would just slowly walk around and change the camera angles to see every little detail of the cities, also seeing what everyone in town has to say. Spending time with friends and building social links was really fun too. I honestly feel like the game would be so much worse if it just centered around the story instead of having all the daily life stuff.
I am still waiting for the PC port to happen but honestly from what I experienced in P4 Golden and have seen in P5. The main and best parts of the game are the social sim. If I want to play a good turn based JRPG game I will just pull up an SMT game. But Persona's Social Sim with a side of watered down JRPG is glorious.
Some life sims aspects in games such as Persona, Yakuza and FFXV actually inspired me to cook a variety of dishes and make drinks. Some results were great and others not so much, but I'm glad I was inspired by them and learned more skills.
I’m so glad this showed up in my recommendations. A lot of this really hit home. I’m disabled and oftentimes mostly home bound. I don’t really have the words to explain the little bit of freedom life sim games give me, but I feel like this video expressed some of it.
Hiyo, came form that guy whos a wolf and wears an eye-patch and is a badass or something. I decided to listen for a minute or two and then decide whether to subscribe or not. And then the minute passed and I barely remembered I was supposed to only hear you for a minute, lol, I just got sucked in, listening to your voice. What Im trying to say is, your voice is very calming.
Really glad Razbuten retweeted this! It encapsulates so much about Life Sims that I felt but didn't know how to say. Really loving how much work and thought was put into this video!
The only life sim I've played is Stardew Valley... it was during a pretty rough time in my life and the escapism really helped me through. I can definitely see why so many ppl are playing Animal Crossing rn. Great video btw, immediately subscribed!
I'm not interested in ac cause I don't have a switch, but I watched the entire video remaining super focused for all 20 minutes. your way of talking is so relaxing and in the same time easily captures the attention of the audience...god job! p.s. i know you from your latest video of death stranding so idk if the subs were already 4k, if not... congrats!
Ah, this video is incredible. I love how personal you get. I love art for the way it holds up a mirror to reality, showing you whatever small slice of it you put in the frame. You touched on that in a lovely way and do a great job of explaining why these games touch so many people. Well done.
11:26 When you mentioned Catching bugs in Serbia, for a brief moment I was transported back in Sremska Mitrovica, where I would also catch bugs as a spit roasted pig and rakija would scent the air. Thanks for the complete nostalgia trip of a sentence :)
Amazing video! I love the overall feeling that envelopes you when you play a life sim. Just waking up in the morning to tend to crops in stardew valley has such a vibe that's hard to explain. Especially when I've never farmed in real life and live in a big city lol
A beautiful insight on simulators. I didn't know there were so many japanese games with this detailed approach to mundane life. It feels cozy and captivating
Holy shit this video’s quality far exceeds the amount of views it has. It’s clear that you really care about these games. Rly hope your channel blows up someday, this is top notch shit
Amazing video ! You're doing an incredible job of not only describe but recreating the feeling and the mood of theses games with words. Thank you for your work.
This was such a fantastic video!! Very appropriate for this time of being trapped in isolation, unable to experience so much of our lives! On the subject of life sims, particularly in the vein of Yakuza's handling of it, I'm curious if you've played Deadly Premonition? It's similar in that it does have a central game narrative that's definitely not relatable to the average person, but the experience is made special by the day-to-day life of this town, taking care of your daily needs, interacting with everyone else on their daily routines and schedules etc. It's like a life sim as told by David Lynch. That director though, swery, often has very life-sim elements to his games, and his main current project, The Good Life, is definitely a Life Sim (I think they call it a Debt Repayment simulator), and feels very in line with the subjects of this video! In any case, really enjoyed this video! You continue to pick really interesting subjects for these, and have such well-done presentation! Several of these games I hadn't heard of, but really interested me! "Alex Builds His Farm" especially gave me a really strong sense of nostalgia despite never having seen it before lol, it exudes such incredible charm! And your story about pets and pet simulators genuinely made me a little teary!!! Keep up the great work and hope you stay safe and sane in this quarantine!!!
I’ve never actually played Deadly Premonition or know much about it, I always thought it was a standard survival horror from what I heard but what you said really makes me want to try it out! I had no idea it explored more than that, thanks for recommending! Thank you so much for your kind words 😭❤️ I really appreciate it and I hope you and your family are staying safe also!
I can't get over how fascinated I've always been by this element of gaming idk why. like all my favorite things while growing up and upto now, it's what started my fascination with gaming in the first place. I remember asking my older brother if there was "a game where you could do anything, where you can just open a cupboard or sit in any chair". To which he recommended "Planescape Torment", because he had just been playing it and it's now known as his favorite game of all time, so I think he was just excited to play Planescape Torment. (He also loved baldur's gate 1&2, arcanum etc). I remember being so in love with Irrational Games' games, like Penumbra and later Amnesia. Because you could pick up ANYTHING, that was insane at the time. I remember liking Alone In The Dark (the 2008 edition, the fifth installment in the series I think?? or 6th, from the era when every game title decided to dump their numbers and never call back) because it had fire physics, wood that caught on fire, wood breaking, etc. it's always been the exact thing that fascinated me with gaming that this video is about. Thank you for this, kinda reminded me of being myself more? Relit passions I thought were dead.
@@eurothug4000 gahahha almost didn't post it because it was so long-winded and rant:y Thank you for making such a good channel, now I have something to binge. Your topics are so on point idk how to explain it. This are things I was planning on making vids about because I find it so damn interesting gahah
@@eurothug4000 OO also, one of the games that most felt like a virtual world, and that made me go "this would make me as a child squee with glee" is the Shenmue games, at least the first one. randomly decided to try it not too long ago, and was amazed at how much it felt like a life sim. it's a bit notorious because it can come off as style over substance:y, but I loved all the little details about living as ryu, in a time before cellphones. walking around neighbours and strangers for directions, your mom being angry at you for getting home late, being able to inspect almost every item in your home in a detroit become human way, or amnesia-lite. Also loved the Farenheit game because of this, all the little actions you had to take for things other games just have a contextual button prompt for. Immersion at its best I suppose.
I remembered there was a Sims titles (Its pretty much all of the Playstation 2 version of The Sims 2) that features a third person gameplay where you control your sim from third person perspective and control every aspect of their actions. Want to cook? Walk/run to the kitchen and grab something from the fridge. Watch TV? Walk to the sofa in front of the TV and sit. It was a great experience. One of the biggest differences was that you get to enjoy the room you have created, imagine playing the sims where you can enjoy your wall decoration every time or just sit in your living room just to relax a bit. The other experience is that you can enjoy the view around the house instead of just looking at it from top-down angle and always used the "X-ray Half-wall" feature so you can click through your walls. The last experience that is very different to the usual sims is that you take full control over your sims in their everyday lives instead of just telling them to do anything. Playstation 2 version of The Sims 2 had this feature but it also introduced the only third person *SPLIT SCREEN MULTIPLAYER!* mode in the sims, The sims 2: Pets had the best graphic and vibes but without the Split Screen mode, The Sims 2: castaway is also fun in third person but its also doesnt have a split mode. What's interesting is that the game lets you select between the usual top-down god mode and the third person mode using only one button. Its a shame they never had the same features on later titles. I have not heard of any The Sims titles have this features on their Windows version. The sims 4 also doesnt have this feature even on its Playstation version of the game.
great video again! this channel's view really deserves to be among those of bigger names in gaming critique/video essays. I also feel the quality of the more recent videos has gone up to. the channel name always gives me a chuckle though...
Super Eyepatch recommended this vid and I gotta say, I have a soft spot for simulators in general. Glad to find someone who loves life sim aspects as I do, since most of my friends don't really find the appeal of the genre and joke around about my fondness for it but I can see why lmao. Idk if these games count as life sims but since you said job sims are, I love both Euro and American Truck Simulators not really because of the trucks themselves but because of the opportunity to drive on long road trips and explore Europe and (a quarter of) the US especially during this year. Gonna take a deeper look in your channel, this is fun!
Oh man. I remember discovering bus and truck simulator games during a period where I was so frustrated and angry with my commute (it really triggered a lot of my anxiety and anger issues). They made me feel in control of traffic. I could get to where I want to in an efficient way and I could provide good transportation for my passengers in the way I thought actual bus drivers I encountered did not. The issues I encountered in game actually made me a bit more empathetic to the irl counterparts which helped temper my anger and frustration with them.
found this video via a super eyepatch wolf vid, this is precisely the kind of games I love to make and play rn, such a fascinating subject. been looking for a channel like this, so happy to find this .
I absolutely love games like AC, Stardew, I just always feel like I need to play them regularly and that puts me off. I don't know why I have that feeling, but it always sticks with me if I pick one of them up.
Your voice reminds me of a story cassette tape my mom used to play for me when I was a small child, snug in my bed. That feeling of safety and aching nostalgia washed over me and I was in tears for the remainder of your video. Thank you~
Something I enjoy doing in BotW is to seek shelter every time night time is approaching, to sleep through every night, put on a hood when it rains, and to never use teleportation. Your video is so good, and now it's time for me to finally start playing Yakuza (Yakuza Zero has been sitting unplayed in my playstation library for a while now haha). Thank you for this wonderful video!
This video was so cozy! It was like hanging out and chatting with a close friend. I love your content. Keeps my work days more relaxed and keeps me in a good mood. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! :)
This truly touch a part of me, I've being playing Animal Crossing since Wild World and has becoming my favourite game and wow, you truly have generated words out of the feeling that I have for the game. I can only say, thanks.
This video is giving me such chill vibes, I love it. I am playing BotW for the first time right now, and I genuinely wish Link's house was dug into more. I'd love to have that expanded with a few quests to better take care of my little homestead.
I was listening to this while cooking, doing some chores and, ironically, engaging with the ordinary. When it was over, I stopped and thought "boy, that was longer than i thought; these video essays aren't usually more than 30 minutes." I checked the time and realized I'd been sucked into the past 20 minutes and felt like I'd been there for well into an hour, based on listening alone
As a girl who rides Euro Truck Simulator 2 as a therapy I can't agree more. The fact that you can do mundane job that is so far removed from your own in a controlled environment is a blessing really. I would never drive a truck in real life, it's not my dream or whatever it's just so... calming. In real life driving is very stressful for me. In ETS2 there's always summer, everyone drives according to law, little to no traffic, you pass so many towns and cities and borders and highways and it's so... beautiful. I love life sims. Great vid, gonna try Rainy Season now :3 Ps. Oh and in Breath of the Wild I actually rode a horse around the map for 10 hours. Just for the sake of riding.. Virtual tourism you say...
Loved the video!!!!! I’m gonna look into the other games mentioned, but animal crossing and it’s inclusion in this video were so comforting! Thank you for the videoooo!!!!!!
Came here from Super Eyepatch Wolf, but seeing that also people like GMTK and Razbuten pointed people here fills my heart with warmth. But more importantly: This video is really good! Left a subscription :D
glad to be here before this channels blows up, and it will! since im finally playing it, i feel like red dead redemption 2 is ...somewhat of a life sim? or at least more than i expected it to be. its no coincidence people jokingly call it " the cowboy simulator", for better or worse. i never wouldve thought that id do this, but i caught myself making sure that arthur would eat, even WASH himself regulary, trim his beard, change his clothes when theyre muddy (although im a sucker for clothing in games, talking about "jet set radio, splatoon and identity" lol). there is no real punishment or reward for doing this. i guess it just feels comfortable to do mundane stuff like this outside of the occasional cowbowy shootouts, to just BE in this western cowboy world. great video!
Oh most definitely! I was thinking of Rockstar games like Bully also! I haven’t played it myself but the things like errands and school work just really appeal to me!
Hi @eurothug4000 loving your work, your beautiful, engaging voice adds tremendous depth and charm to the already stunning quality of your essays. 3 time, thank you. Gonna go thank Wolf too. I'll be back soon. Warmest regards, stay safe.
SuperEyePatchWolf never steers me wrong when he recommends UA-cam channels. This was a wonderful video and I've definitely subscribed. Thank you for your work. I can't wait to watch more!
What a great video, really nice script you got there, while I don't find life sims fun in various ways nor it's implementation in other kind of games (except for Persona 5, that game is my jam), I get what you're saying, I feel the exact same way about God-like sims or construction sims of sorts, Some of my best gaming experiences comes from Planet Coaster, Satisfactory, House Flipper (I know this last one is similar to what you described in the video), and, from all games, one of my most memorable experiences in my time playing games comes from playing Age of Empires II, the only thing I used to love to do was to create all the different forces, equipment and cavalry for every npc faction, so I could sat and watch who would end up as the winner, it was fantastic, and I love that I get to feel like a kid again by playing so many games that make me feel that way, great vid, keep on going!
Another beautiful video about a genera of games I don't really play but love hearing about. There are so many different kinds of games that appeal to different kinds of people and this is another great video highlighting that. I really hope your channel continues to grow so you can share your love of games with more people and help people like me appreciate a broader verity of games.
this was a wonderfully wholesome video maria life simulators of all kinds are important in the gaming industry (my fav being the rune factory series) as is wonderful content creators such as you are as well ^_^ glad i get to start my week with a great new video from ya and also MOCHI SO GLAD YOU GREW PAST YOUR ALLERGY PLEASE GIVE YA ADORABLE CAT SOME LOVE FROM ALL OF US
Great video. I lived in Japan for three years and before I left I made sure to purchase a copy of Boku No Natsuyasumi 4. I wanted to take a part of my experience back to The States with me as I did not know if or when I would ever return to Fukuoka. I also enjoy playing the Yakuza games for the very same reason you mention; being able to relive the feeling of walking through busy Japanese city streets. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
SUPER EYEPATCH WOLF SENT ME HERE TOO BOO!!! I love your voice! This whole channel is extremely cozy! It feels like story time from my school days... So... THANK YOU FOR EXISTING!!! #WeLoveYouBoo
Bit off topic but that ingame tourism is super surreal to expierence sometimes haha. Its great having gone to America a few years ago I went to all of the cliche big cities that come up time and time again in media. So swinging through familiar streets of New York as Spider-Man or standing Infront of a cinema that I went to in real life in GTA's depiction of "L.A" is sooooo interesting. Its a really unique feeling particularly being from a country where legit no games are ever set (Australia, the only example of a game set in Australia is Tony Hawks Underground 2 where there's a Sydney level and I'm not even from there!) Alllsssooo sorry but I love your cat lol
13:48 I totally agree! Despite their reputation for being relaxing games, never-ending life regularly sims _stress me out._ Don't get me wrong - I love games like Animal Crossing NH - but ironically, the absolute freedom gives me choice anxiety. Whereas in games with a main objective (e.g. Hades, Breath of the Wild), having _life simulator-esque_ activities on the side completely enhances my experience playing these games. Having activities to do when I wanted to take a breather from the main objective always felt so rewarding (e.g. fishing, improving personal relationships, mining for ore, etc.) I've never heard of Boku no Natsuyasumi before your video, so I suppose I'll check it out during my own summer break irl. All in all, I really enjoyed this video.
sent by a wolf glad he did this was a wonderful video youve.more than earned a sub also I believe they did translate a Natsuyasumi game called Attack of the Friday Monsters ThorHighHeels did a video on it thats the first time I saw the series and I just fell in love with the idea hopefully we get some more of them
This was really lovely. I had the same experience. I think the first games I ever really played were life sims.. so they have a special place in my heart that's still there til this day. I wish I could play Persona games soon. I hope they come to the switch. I've seen a lot of people talk about Boku no Natsuyasumi and i think i might watch a play through one of these days. ALSO, this video was sooo good!! very soothing voice...and also really well written! im shocked to see how little subscribers you have?? I'm so glad to find a female video-essay type youtuber talking about videogames. it is a breath of fresh air. i truly hope your channel takes off on of these days! anyway, well done!!!

This video was fantastic! I'm so glad that Razbuten gave you a shout-out. Looking forward for more to come!
What a lovely little video!
I'm so grateful I've found this channel!
This video is giving me such chill vibes, I love it. I am playing BotW for the first time right now, and I genuinely wish Link's house was dug into more. I'd love to have that expanded with a few quests to better take care of my little homestead.
Right?? That was one of the most memorable part of the game for me, I wish they did more with it too! Thanks for watching! ☺️
this video is rekindling a game idea we had a little while back... basically just a cozy 2D gardening sim
I am learning Japanese,
Boku no Natsuyasumi is going straight to the "to do" list once I get better at it. Great video!
Great vid, gonna try Rainy Season now :3
Ps. Oh and in Breath of the Wild I actually rode a horse around the map for 10 hours. Just for the sake of riding.. Virtual tourism you say...
I'm binging your videos at the moment and you just inadvertently helped me figure something out about The Sims 4 for my paper, thank you!
haha thank you! Glad I could be of help!
Loved the video!!!!! I’m gonna look into the other games mentioned, but animal crossing and it’s inclusion in this video were so comforting! Thank you for the videoooo!!!!!!
thank you for watching!! ☺️
Came here from Super Eyepatch Wolf, but seeing that also people like GMTK and Razbuten pointed people here fills my heart with warmth. But more importantly: This video is really good! Left a subscription :D
glad to be here before this channels blows up, and it will!
since im finally playing it, i feel like red dead redemption 2 is ...somewhat of a life sim? or at least more than i expected it to be.
its no coincidence people jokingly call it " the cowboy simulator", for better or worse.
i never wouldve thought that id do this, but i caught myself making sure that arthur would eat, even WASH himself regulary, trim his beard, change his clothes when theyre muddy (although im a sucker for clothing in games, talking about "jet set radio, splatoon and identity" lol).
there is no real punishment or reward for doing this. i guess it just feels comfortable to do mundane stuff like this outside of the occasional cowbowy shootouts, to just BE in this western cowboy world.
great video!
also the grim reaper is the coolest lad in sims.
I JUST DISCOVERED YOUR CHANNEL AND ITS FRIGGIN GREAT
SuperEyePatchWolf never steers me wrong when he recommends UA-cam channels.
Amazing video. Glad you're getting to enjoy AC:NH and glad Supereyepatchwolf pointed me your way 😊
Your correct pronunciation of "yakuza" added 5 years to my life span. 😌
Loved the video!
Sending you hugs from Serbia. 💞
Im with the wolf pack and im here to stay! 😃
The video itself felt really cozy, thanks for doing it
Idk how many times I've listened to this video, it's just so peaceful. 😌
This makes me nostalgic to a childhood I never experienced.
Another beautiful video about a genera of games I don't really play but love hearing about. There are so many different kinds of games that appeal to different kinds of people and this is another great video highlighting that. I really hope your channel continues to grow so you can share your love of games with more people and help people like me appreciate a broader verity of games.
this was a wonderfully wholesome video maria life simulators of all kinds are important in the gaming industry (my fav being the rune factory series) as is wonderful content creators such as you are as well ^_^ glad i get to start my week with a great new video from ya and also MOCHI SO GLAD YOU GREW PAST YOUR ALLERGY PLEASE GIVE YA ADORABLE CAT SOME LOVE FROM ALL OF US
AHHH THANK YOU!!!! ❤️ I need to try out Rune Factory myself!!
you are quite welcome bud and YES YOU DO if ya like stardew you'll most likely love rune factory
Awesome video, does such a good job at explaining why these sorts of games are so cool and enjoyable (also your cat is goddamn adorable aaaa)
thank you!!! ☺️
I knew there was something about botw that reminded me of life sims, glad you could put it into words for me :)
great video! i dont usually play live simulators but i loved the way you talked about them and perhaps i;ll play more of them in the future
You got me with the Oxenfree OST there ngl
Great video. I lived in Japan for three years and before I left I made sure to purchase a copy of Boku No Natsuyasumi 4. I wanted to take a part of my experience back to The States with me as I did not know if or when I would ever return to Fukuoka. I also enjoy playing the Yakuza games for the very same reason you mention; being able to relive the feeling of walking through busy Japanese city streets. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Eyepatch sent me here this was a fantastic video, I subscribed I hope your channel continues to grow
8:05 -- holy shit, having flashbacks to when I also played Alex Builds His Farm as a kid, I loved that terrible game lol
Found this video randomly on twitter, and I'm glad a did, great stuff!
SUPER EYEPATCH WOLF SENT ME HERE TOO BOO!!! I love your voice! This whole channel is extremely cozy! It feels like story time from my school days... So... THANK YOU FOR EXISTING!!! #WeLoveYouBoo
I like the tone of your voice, and how you aren’t too loud. Great video
Fantastic video! So glad I randomly found this channel
Thank you!!
I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE talk about Catz and Dogz 4. That game holds SOOOO much nostalgia for me ;-;
Bit off topic but that ingame tourism is super surreal to expierence sometimes haha. Its great having gone to America a few years ago I went to all of the cliche big cities that come up time and time again in media. So swinging through familiar streets of New York as Spider-Man or standing Infront of a cinema that I went to in real life in GTA's depiction of "L.A" is sooooo interesting. Its a really unique feeling particularly being from a country where legit no games are ever set (Australia, the only example of a game set in Australia is Tony Hawks Underground 2 where there's a Sydney level and I'm not even from there!)
Alllsssooo sorry but I love your cat lol
13:48 I totally agree! Despite their reputation for being relaxing games, never-ending life regularly sims _stress me out._
Don't get me wrong - I love games like Animal Crossing NH - but ironically, the absolute freedom gives me choice anxiety.
Whereas in games with a main objective (e.g. Hades, Breath of the Wild), having _life simulator-esque_ activities on the side completely enhances my experience playing these games. Having activities to do when I wanted to take a breather from the main objective always felt so rewarding (e.g. fishing, improving personal relationships, mining for ore, etc.)
I've never heard of Boku no Natsuyasumi before your video, so I suppose I'll check it out during my own summer break irl.
All in all, I really enjoyed this video.
The eyepatched wolf sent me. Really enjoy your stuff!
Great video! Glad to see I an not the only one fascinated by a virtual life simulator. :P
Aaaaaahh this is really brilliant and totally on point. Life sims are the best sims
Thank you! 😭❤️
Great video thanks for sharing all of these games! I haven't had the chance to play Persona 5 but I would love it looks great and super fun
Thank you! I recommend P5! :)
Thank you for the great video
Really needed it today
Wait... Trips to Serbia? You have family there? Gretting from Serbia, btw. Very well-made video enjoyed ever minute
Haha yes! Although most of my family members have moved elsewhere now :(
@@eurothug4000 Can't blame them, not really the best place to live
Fantastic video, im super intrigued by those nostalgia games.
thank you! I definitely recommend them!
this has made me to see life sims in a whole new light. I bought stardew valley after watching this.
This is brilliant!
I look forward to seeing more ^^
Wait what the hell, 1 minute turned into 19 minutes!
How dare you hypnotise me!
This video is as relaxing as the games shown
Great video! Glad super wolf patch sent me 😊💕
Great video, dunno if zoo tycoon(original one) counts as a life sim or not but that game rocks
Also here from the One Eyed Wolf, enjoyed the video enough to check out some more!
sent by a wolf glad he did this was a wonderful video youve.more than earned a sub also I believe they did translate a Natsuyasumi game called Attack of the Friday Monsters ThorHighHeels did a video on it thats the first time I saw the series and I just fell in love with the idea hopefully we get some more of them
Such a good videoooo. I need to play more games like these
This is... so well made.
Good job.
Same here!! My earliest gaming experiences were pet sims especially!
And thank you so so much ❤️ I really appreciate the kind words ☺️
