@@roaringviking5693 when I first heard Ajfa back in 88 I never even realised the bass had been turned down, just remember thinking this sounds so different to anything else but I love it, it wasn't until years later that I found out
I honestly can hear bass when I’m wearing headphones or even in my car without adjusting the bass settings in my car. People will make those edits where they turn it up and it just sounds horrid. The bass overpowers every other instrument and is just a waste of great music. I’ll defend this album forever no matter how many babies complain about the bass
100% this album will always be my favourite from them and in general also to add to what someone else said Theres a lot of songs on the album where the bass sort of shines through on a good pair of speakers especially if you know what to listen to
Seen them on the Justice Tour in '89 in Toronto AT Maple Leaf Gardens 1st night of 2! Killer show! Queensryche opened for them and they were fantastic as well!
Every time I hear the last bit of “...and Justice for All “ I do a mental double take expecting the fade in of “Eye of the Beholder”. That’s one thing that cassette tapes had over other formats. It was a pain in the ass to skip songs, so most people would just let it play through. Next thing you know, you start appreciating the song you would normally skip.
Please....live-performance of this song in Seattle '89......you will love the stunning performance and ferocity on stage.....including the amazing ending 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
This album was great for everything they had went through the year or two prior. Cliff's death was still an open wound not to mention they're finally making a little money now. What a rollercoaster of emotions. Oh and they're becoming the Alcoholica we all loved back then.
9:59 you should read up on how they recorded the album. Lars decided he wanted his drums to “punch you in the face” in the mix. Getting that bigger sound was his focus. The end result is quite a desirable tone for many drummers indeed. RIP Jason’s epic bass lines - to that end, AND JUSTICE FOR JASON is a bass enhanced version of the album you should check out if you haven’t already. This scooped mids guitar tone is legendary and quite desirable. Fair to say this drum recording method yielded the most impressive results for Lars.
Honestly I think this album is better, but the black album has better sounding drums than this album!!! But the tone on the drums on this album are good and have a lot of attack to them!! However the drum tone in the black album is just unique and awesome!!!!
When you’re sitting there like “ok...ok....ok” in the first half of the song, I was thinking to myself “he’s about to witness the birth of progressive metal.” And someone probably already told you, but Lars signed on with Tama in 87 so that’s what he would be playing on this record.
Nice to get a reaction from a musician. Like how you stop the vid when you have a comment, it shows you are paying attention and you're not going to remember all your comments if you wait to the end anyway. You deserve more subs. Keep 'em coming!
Cant wait till you get to "To Live Is To Die" Powerful song and one of the last compositions that Cliff Burton wrote before his death. The band took those and made an absolutely beautiful song. One of my favorites. And Dyers Eve for the double Bass drum.
What I can say about that kick sound...and this is just my experience in figuring it out is this.... Start by mic’ing your bass drum from the front and through the back...then run it through a separate channel into a mixer, or eq thing, and on that, turn up the highs and mids, then bring the bass up until it’s max but not overdriving. We’ve also used click pads with plastic beaters, taping quarters on the front of the beaters....but EQ is the true way to do it.
You absolutely have to try out "Ytse Jam", from Dream Theater "Images and Words live in Tokyo". When I saw it for the first time I was completely blown away and haven't yet returned))) SUCH DRUMMING! And other instruments, of course)
You should add Testament's 1999 album The Gathering to your reactions, not only is it excellent thrash but it's the only Testament album with Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer) on drums. Fun Fact: Gene Hoglan, The drummer on Testament's latest album Titans of Creation was on Slayer's first album, 1983's Show No Mercy, doing backing vocals on Evil Has No Boundaries.
Oh my god. I read your info comment, “Welcome to my channel. I make shitty videos so don’t subscribe” This has got to be THE coolest subheading I’ve ever seen on a UA-cam channel, hands down. Ok so the lead singer and on rythym guitar - James Hetfield Lead guitar - Kirk Hammet Drums - Lars Ulrich Bass guitar - Jason Newsted I noticed you weren't familiar with all their names so here ya go. This album is an absolute masterpiece. Imo their best work from start to finish. Easily Lars best work and I feel the title track is his best in studio performance.
Did you notis cant hear the base? its called the Ulrich, Hetfield experience they kept coming in at different times during the session i cant hear my drums Lars pumps up the volume, James comes in i cant hear my guitar ect in the end base was burid in the mix
For the last 20 years Metallica have been my all-time favorite band. Since the turn of this decade, another band has taken their spot as my current favorite because lately Metallica hasn't put out much efforts that I have enjoyed, thus I give a newer band this spot. I'm not much into the live effort of any band; studio is usually where I find a band shines. However, this new band seems much better suited for the live stage... The Warning. Three teenage girls from Mexico, sisters. Their 2nd album, Queen of the Murder Scene, is a concept album, which is best listened to live because of the energy of their performance with an audience. Keep this thing going. Real music like this is almost dead. It's going to take kids like you forming bands in your garage and hopefully catching lightning in a bottle to revive music. Keep practicing your craft and find YOUR Jame Hetfield. I'm enjoying your reactions.
James and Lars were in the groove along with Kirk and his killer leads on this album. They all wanted to show how much they had grown as musicians. However the new guy was not to be heard on this album.

The guitar tone on this album is ridiculously eargasmic, dont care about lack of bass
You can actually hear the bass on this song, though. It's pretty clear at 10:38 for example.

Pure creativity, in every song of old metallica you perfectly can extract several songs, several riffs
