Probably because dolphins are highly intelligent animals and are quick learners. I think those dolphins that gently took the fish from his hands knew that he was helping them out and cooperated, just like dogs.
This is what I love about River Monsters, seeking the truth. Jeremy tracks down these fish out of curiosity, intrigue and in response to almost outlandish tales. I wouldn't know much about freshwater fish if it wasn't for this show and this man.

River Monsters used to be the show I would watch when I get home from school or just don't have to go at all. It would be Me and my great uncle watching it with fascination
What the fish? I didn't even know this was a thing. I'm just gonna casually save this entire playlist to I can listen to these when I go to bed, I love river monsters.
I distinctly remember watching a clip on Animal Planet back in the 2000s of someone who was using piranha jaws (the bone, not a whole fish) as hair clippers, they were _that sharp._ Not sure if it was River Monsters or not.
I can testify that, when bitten by a Piranha, you don't feel pain at first. I have owned many piranha as pets and back in 1984 I got bit on my left hand pinky finger by the first one I ever had. Luckily it was a small juvenile, about 2.5" and it only snipped out a small chunk but it was painless... until I realized it bit me and I pulled my hand from the tank, then it started stinging. I was a young teen, 14 years old, and I was being a dumbass chasing it around in the aquarium and cornered it.
My father kept Parana as pets. They never bite people. They loved being petted and rubbed themselves against my hands and they knew what food was and not. I was able to hold the food and they only touched the food stripping it to the bone and my hand was fine.
As somebody who's been into the aquarium hobby for the majority of my life, who has had family members that owned tanks with red belly piranha, I can tell you those fish are some of the biggest pansies in the fish world there are. Very very rarely will they choose to go after another fish that's alive and healthy so them going after a living person is not going to happen. They will absolutely eat humans, like any other carnivore would, but not alive. The individual bites are the result of either "abnormal" behavior in the fish or defensive in nature when it comes to spawning. One overly curious and bold piranha out of the literal thousands at minimum that were there could have been testing what was there. Every species of fish (especially Characins) I've kept has exhibited something like this, where you never have a problem with the majority but every now and then you just get a 'problem child'.
Jeremy is my idol !!! He’s the king of angling! I don’t care who has won which fishing tourney etc, nobody is as universal as Jeremy. He could catch a Megaladon if he wanted to!! ✊🏻🤜🏻☝🏻💪🏻
I'm sure it's happened at least once. People have lived alongside the amazon for a very, very long time. It had to have happened at least once, where there were witnesses that said "Oooooh shit! Don't do what that person just did!" Ok yeah. That had to have been a horrible experience for anyone involved.
We use to have two red bellied pacu's, an Oscar and albino catfish in our fishtank when I was a kid. The paccu's look just like piranhas but aren't nearly as aggressive. Still pretty cool though
When I was in 3rd grade, I did my science project on Red-Belly Piranhas. Here is an interesting fact about Piranhas, Piranhas can keep biting / attacking even after they are dead.
I like how they show the monkey intently watching while he stepping into the pool full of fish probably thinking wtf are doing human I see y'all do stupid things before but this one one of craziest
About 45 years ago on an episode of wild kingdom with marlyn perkins they showed one of the huge rodents the name of which I can't remember cross a river and it was totally torn to pieces by piranhas. I’ve heard him speak Spanish before so if he speaks/understands Spanish most likely he’s able to understand Portuguese. 💡
He’s fluent in Spanish French and Portuguese
They cut the actual translator doing his job. Jeremy is a biologist and a fisherman, nowhere in his bio says linguist.

I watched this series with my brother on Netflix when I was a kid.

Back when cable T.V actually had good shows and not fake reality drama
Sitting at my beach house as a 6 year old my grandparents just turned 50 and life was good and dope free :(

I agree. The little biters would have to be very desperate and hungry to risk going after a live human. Which is possible but very unlikely.
