Colm never cared about his men and only saw them as numbers, but Dutch saw his members as family. In the end, however, when he took in Joe and Cleet, he proved that he was no different than Colm.
Really makes you think about how hard the gang falling apart must've been on him especially if he changed this drastically, moved to Mexico, regained an Accent be didn't have before, he never found a second life like Pearson, Trelawney, Swanson, the girls or John did, he just kinda decayed as a person
Dutch's "I got a plan" speech is literally a reiterated version of what he said on the cliff by the river with Arthur when they were surrounded by the army.
@Flicks Honestly, I'm with you on this one. But I'd rather keep it to myself, let people have their fun, and not be a prick about it. It confuses me how many people believe they planned everything from the start when rdr1 characters don't even mention rdr2 characters like arthur, micah, sadie, hosea, pretty much the dead cast. When rdr2 was still in development too, there were even articles going like "hey, you're not gonna be playing as john marston." But, what's amazing is how rockstar found whatever bits and pieces from rdr1 and fleshed it out to become how great rdr2 is now with all its foreshadowing and whatever details can find.
@@wilfweNightsky nobody's being a prick about it, they're just too blind on DEM GRAFFICZ and clunky gameplay to see how much RDR2 took and how much it just straight up changed/retconned from the previous entry. The fanbase just refuses to believe that RDR2 is very flawed, and it's not only because it's a prequel. They completely butchered Marston's character so that he wouldn't steal the stoplight from Arthur, making John a complete buffoon so that Arthur can be the "man who taught him to be real man", wouldn't be the first time they used some cheap tactic to make a new character seem better. **Stares at Trevor killing Johnny Klebitz**
@@thebadwolf3088 sounds like you can't read in between the lines. But regardless, they did put in a lot of details (even unnecessary ones but people will always point things out for muh realism). And like I said, rockstar probably never planned everything from the start, so yes, they had to rewrite some things for pieces to make sense even if it was forced, especially for a relatively old game at this point. I also get that it's kinda frustrating they turned john into such a wimp compared to how much of a badass "bounty hunter" he was in rdr1, but you overlooked that rdr2 had arcs. I think rockstar starting john as a wimp in rdr2 is a great take with him not knowing how to swim in both games(+ his simple drawings compared to arthur). We played as arthur, saw the start and the end of things. We saw sadie get revenge. And when taking back jack from bronte, he could see john realizing he has to be a better father, there are even some videos around showing him paying more attention to jack later on. If rdr2 is the fall of the gang, rdr1 is the complete end (unless rockstar plans to give jack a story).
If they do remaster it I’m torn if it should be left as is or have the actors just insert a few references to Arthur. Like when Bill confronts John for the first time “No more Dutch… No more Morgan… and no more you. Now I’M IN CHARGE!”
No, I don’t think they should mention Arthur, but maybe Arthur’s journal is on a shelf during a cutscene or something. It would be wrong to change the story like that.
@@brandenmarcum430 I feel if they’d remaster it, it should be just that, a remaster, anything else would just make it a remake. Bill's dialogue kinda make it seem like he wanted to be with John and Arthur in the final mission of rdr2. Like he believes John and Arthur were saved but they didn't try to save the other who seemed like they wanted to serve Dutch for the rest of their life. But the way Bill puts it here, with retrospective, kinda sounds like he too was doubting Dutch but just didn't want to admit it and felt betrayed when bith John and Arthur people he respected didn't even try to get him along with the plan to leave. Same could be said with Javier as well. If you watch both Bill and Javier in the final mission of RDR2 they're both incredibly hesitant about who to side with.
I mean yeah, it checks out. Bill Williamson has always been an immensely insecure man. He acts tough, he wants to be in on the plan, he wants to be respected, but he isn’t particularly smart, graceful, or good at anything but brute violence. As such, he has an AWFUL time properly considering or communicating his emotions, so he mostly just ends up projecting onto others, and sinking into paranoia. The way Bill had rationalized it, it couldn’t have been that Bill had been misled by somebody he respected into betraying those he cared about. No, there must have been SOME good reason. John was selfish! Yeah, that was it! He was selfish! He didn’t look out for anybody but himself, so I am therefore somewhat justified in mistreating him the way I did.
SPOILER ALERT Arthur's story was amazing, as we see him change after he finds out his life is on its last legs, he becomes a better man overall and its emotional. But John is the more tragic character, mainly because his family was taken from him by agent Ross, he was then forced to hunt down his old associates to get them back, he was shot, lied to a lot, betrayed in Mexico which pissed me off, treated like a low life outlaw, even though he was trying to change that by working on and living at his ranch, and eventually when he is reunited with his family and kid, he gets shot dead and betrayed by agent Ross, who literally got him to do everything he did and ensured John he'd get out alive. John's story was definitely the saddest story overall. The rdr2 epilogue made his story even more emotional.
Saddest part of all, it was all for nothing as even though John sacrificed himself to save his family (more specifically Jack) from his past sins, Jack would fall into the outlaw life by exacting retribution on Agent Ross and become a killer like his father.
@@cristianlopez_8486 And all those years ago Arthur constantly talked about revenge being foolish and pointless. That wisdom really hits home with the events of the first game.
Rdr2 was probably one of the best prequels to anything ever it showed so much exposition and managed to be one of the best game I’ve ever while having to fill plotholes made by the first game
The cool thing is in rdr 1 when you confront Javier you can actually see him planning a quick escape route, You can see this as he quickly leans against the crate then starts looking at the window as he's talking to John. After that he pushes that same crate or block into John as he proceeds to make a quick escape out the window. Great subtle but very obvious detail right there.
I bet this hits John hard asf, ik he probably hates them, but imagine tracking down or killin a old former gang member that was considered as family one point. John probably finds it annoying but I’m just saying it’s pretty sad.
Javier is definitely the saddest to see. Just feels like he fell the hardest out of the 3. In 2 he seems so young and caring and just full of life. I kind of wish they gave more of a reason to his siding with Dutch though. Bill I always understood but Javier felt like he should have seen what was going on
Honestly, Javier is the one former gang member I feel bad for in Red Dead Redemption. He didn’t really have anything to do with John getting betrayed, he was just doing what he thought was best, even fled to Mexico to get away from everything.
Playing it again after rdr 2 I really didn’t want to kill bill. Knowing he won’t back down because he’s too dumb but still loving him because we saw he was loyal and had a good heart just like Arthur. Only difference was Arthur was smarter and wasn’t blinded by his loyalty
“It was an excuse, and we all knew.” John always knew Dutch was bullshitting him with the dreamer talk, and that they were always outlaws who can’t be civilized because of their greed. None of them wanted to admit they were lower than human
I’d same remake over remaster, imagine rdr1 but you can go through all of rdr2 with some extra missions in other places like more bounty hunting with Sadie and stuff
@@georggggggge Yeah but it wouldn't really make any sense, Sadie said she was moving to South America at the end of rdr2. Also I feel like it would kind of ruin thr flow of rdr1. I do think it would be cool if they remade it and added some lines that mentioned Arthur and other events from rdr2.
Its so crazy how sour Javier turned after the events of RDR2. He was probably one of the nicer people to talk to in camp, and one of my favorites to go on missions with because I felt like I actually enjoyed his company and he actually cared about Arthur, John, and the others. "It was just an excuse and we all knew." I think is what makes Dutch's famous "fight change" speech so impactful: It cuts through all the BS he used to spout, where he instead admits that he was always crazy.
John is one of the smartest people in the rdr universe aside from Dutch despite everyone calling him an idiot, he knew how it would end, and he had a chance to escape with his life, he could have ran out of the back of the barn or taken them all down but he wanted it to end that way, he succeeded in his redemption because his redemption wasn't death, it was saving his family and he did just that and even with 60 holes in him, his lungs filling with blood, his life ending as he fell to his knees, he held on, he held on to look his killer in the eye and let him know that even though he's dead, he still won
@eliott hagenbarth that’s your opinion I like Hosea but I was mainly talking about playable characters John honestly had the best story out of everyone

True it was the illusion of family that kept them together. Outside looking in you can see the shadiness of Dutch and Micah.
Yeah but he recants that statement when he says the be other guys didn't even know his name and they were disposable no one cared about anyone. Still he was right, the ladies in the gang were all real.

John really grew into the man he was trying to be. The one Abigail wanted, and the one Arthur told him to be.
Dutch's "I got a plan" speech is literally a reiterated version of what he said on the cliff by the river with Arthur when they were surrounded by the army.
"We can't fight change. We can't fight gravity.."
Even to the point where he said “we gotta stop meeting like this”. I was so shocked after playing RDR2, truly amazing
When rdr2 was still in development too, there were even articles going like "hey, you're not gonna be playing as john marston."
But, what's amazing is how rockstar found whatever bits and pieces from rdr1 and fleshed it out to become how great rdr2 is now with all its foreshadowing and whatever details can find.

Bill isn't bad at all. I always felt bad for him. He's misunderstood and just needs to not be put down and listened to for once
"You always tried to save yourself". Perfect example of the events of RDR1.
The fact that Javier says children makes me think he may have known about John's daughter and didn't know she died
SPOILER ALERT
Arthur's story was amazing, as we see him change after he finds out his life is on its last legs, he becomes a better man overall and its emotional.
