Why Lawn Renovations NEED This Reel Mower?? // Westies, Backyard Update, Swardman Electra
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 жов 2024
- When I bought this greenworks push reel mower used last year I didn't realize how much I was going to enjoy using it and also how much it would be an essential part of my lawn renovation mows going forward. The first few mows of a new lawn (and especially one that you want to stay flat) can be aided so much by a light reel mower like this that cuts cleanly but also leaves your ground flat. In this video I also talk about our beloved Westies, an update on the backyard being mowed slightly lower, watering with my diy system, and an early morning mow with the Swardman Electra.

Your eye and vision for editing is always awesome.
I agree.
Do a live stream - Does Ryan read these comments?
Eric, yeah he does. 👍🏼🌱
With your aggressive goal of 3 videos a week I will say the content and quality is just fantastic
That's why I'm up all night...😃
I agree! The commitment is a huge one. Most folks don't understand the effort it takes. Especially to make them this high quality!
Hear hear!!
Ryan Knorr Lawn Care up al night, and early enough to mow at 6 in the morning (or you just sleep all day). 😂
People don’t realize how much effort you put in these videos. Just fixing the rake was awesome and I can only imagine how many camera angles and takes you took.
Thanks for noticing! I appreciate it
It's funny you say it's the worst time of day for the lawn. Dead set my favourite when the sun is behind you looking at it.
Good morning Mr Tips😎
@@trevormuggeridge4560 Good morning Mr "Last Aussie"
Worst look for color! Haha
Sorry need to speak your language...colour 😃
Ryan Knorr Lawn Care haha, on the rye at home it’s the best! But the sun has to be behind you. Thanks for speaking my language. You’re too kind
I like that you’re honest with how you aren’t happy with your back lawn and are experimenting- similar to a lot of us who want perfection but get frustrated because that just isn’t attainable.
I love the suspense at the end. You should do a video of your filming equipment, software, and audio that you use. Editing is on point.
The rake now has a life! YAY! Nice video!
Ryan, looking at your reel mower reminded me of when I had lawn cutting jobs at age 14. I bought a reel adjustable mower from Sears that cost $57.00. Had an adjustable knob in the middle front that would raise or lower the wheels, thus the blades. I once got it sharpened from a professional, and he makes these type adjustments to the blades that touch the lower bar. It's where the blades of grass get caught between the cutting blades, and flat bottom bar. He adjusts to the point where when he put a piece of newsprint in between, the tolerances are such that the blades take off the ink, but doesn't cut the newspaper.
First. That Electra is sweet! Glad to see you got your rake fixed.
Me too. I was starting to worry about the rake :)
my lawn looks best at midnight with a half dozen adult beverages.
Sounds like your lawn has a drinking problem if it's binging at all hours of the night.
Always love these videos, even more than LCN because it’s just so nice to watch with the quality video and calm music. Gives that good feeling and I love that you are including more shots of the dogs, process of assembly, etc. thanks for all the work you put into these. I’ve watched everyone of them since Sept last year.
Thanks!!
We already knew "you had no shame" from the Vikings hat you always wear....lol. The Westies are great looking dogs.
That electric is so quiet you don't wake the neighbors! Awesome! I have 4 of those rakes btw!
Love the little guys! Thanks for listening and showing me he westies. I have a 14 year old rescue named Riley!
Great video Ryan. I absolutely love Westies. My Tucker is 13 and slowing down, & going blind. It totally breaks my heart. We've had him since 6 weeks old!
TMF 8400 😢 So sorry to hear that. I’m sure you’ve given him a happy life and he knows he’s loved. Our pets bring so much to our lives. God bless.
Hardest part of being a pet owner is that they don’t live forever...still worth it though. 👍
@@simpleshoes thank you so much!
@@johns17m Amen to that but I love every moment with him. Have a great day!
I love your videos, Ryan. I've learned so much from you and my yard looks better than it ever has. Thanks for your dedication to helping the DIY lawn community. I'm in Utah, by the way.
Man, this video's shots and edit was amazing. Like, next level. Incredible.
Always look forward to your videos! They get better each time man
very dramatic ending. I was almost moved to tears
Hi Ryan!
Absolutely enjoy your videos, and have applied a lot of your tips to my lawn. I have a small lawn so I have been using a reel mower.
I was wondering if you could happen to put together a video of explaining/ showing how to care and sharpen the blades on a reel mower?
Appreciate all the effort you put into your videos.
Thanks!
I'll work on that
I'd suggest looking into some quick connects for your hoses and sprinklers. It makes changing them out super fast.
Yep, I have quick connects on every piece!
I also have a short leader hose to move the timer away from the bib, and Y-connector with on/off switches to attach the irrigation unit. The Y has a quick connect input, a quick connect output, and a threaded output.
The switched Y allows me to run the water out the threaded connection and soften the turf to insert the impulse spike into hard turf. I can turn off the water flow while out at the hose end, switch sprinkler type, or adjust the pattern without going back to the bib or timer to turn off the water and then return to the bib to turn on the water. An on/off switch at the hose end saves me steps!
The thread connection is there if necessary, and I don't need to remove the quick connect on the bib or hose end.
I prefer the plastic fittings over the brass, too. 1/4 of the cost.
Ryan, I noticed your cleaning of your lawn mower after cutting... do you performance this maintenance with all of your machines after every cut according to the different areas of grass? The reason why I ask is my front lawn was once weed free and I usually cut it first then immediately cut the back. One weekend I cut in reverse, first the back then the front (the backyard is my renovation project with weed content). And wouldn't you know it, I started seeing weeds in the front. I also do not catch the clippings when I cut. Should I be washing down the underside of my lawn mower before I cut the different areas? Should I go back to bagging?
Loving that new handle!!!!
very nice video production, your lawn looks great, super nice shed, thanks for sharing!!
That new rake handle is 👌🏼
I knew there was a reason I subscribed - we both have Westies! 🐶🐶
Man I can't imagine how long it would take to mow my yard with a reel mower. I feel like your yard is bigger but also much smoother.
I don't really plan to do the whole thing with the manual one....but then again it honestly goes pretty fast so we'll see.
Lawn looks nice Ryan...that shorter HOC makes it look smoother/flatter like a carpet compared to last year. 👍🏼
Thanks for the great video. Would love to see more time spent using, setting up and reviewing the manual push reel mower. I could never afford an electric/gas reel, but adding a manual reel next to my rotary has piqued my interest.
Great video Mr Knorr!
Over all Ryan, it looks really good. Thanks for the video!
Wow was that 8 camera moves to put a screw in a rake at the end?!?
Glad you got the rake fixed. The broken rake was driving me nuts.
Rye is my favorite grass. Dark green super soft, and fast to grow.
I love it too.
Just 3 days after applying Tenacity to my front yard to get rid of Wild Bermuda. The Bermuda has stopped growing and the KBG that I knew existed under it is growing like mad. A few shoots here and there all 3 inches taller than Wild Bermuda
That Electra is nice. Love the videos and info
What I use, a push mower, Great States, I have a small area of grass and love using this mower.
Can you cut a new lawn first with a rotary mower, and then go back and get a really clean cut with a reel mower? Is there an advantage, disadvantage, etc?
The rain came down hard. I have to reseed some of my freshly seeded lawn. Lol. I’m not complaining tho the rest of the lawn is happy.
Love those “ kink king “ brand hoses always worth the struggle 😝
I have a fiskers stay sharp plus and I love it. My only issues is the width. If it was 21/22" it would be perfect. 18" is a bit too narrow.
Also been cutting at second lowest setting( 1.5" maybe. Lowest is 1") and it's been fine all summer. Haven't done anything other then one application of fertilizer. My area is southern Ontario so it shouldn't be too far off yours.
@Striperman rbg
@Striperman is 1.25" the second lowest setting? I wish it had heights for all settings.
Fantastic! So, I'd like to experiment with my best, flattest/most level, best growing area of KBG in the back yard and get a small area down to reel low height. Something to do during the fall growth push. Would you suggest getting started with a hand-op reel like the one you use in this video, working down from highest to desired cut height every day? Also, we were STOKED to see our sticker in the shed! Cheers from MN!
Ryan just getting caught up on emails. Great video showing the rye grass browning like ours among the predominately tall fescue. Joey looks just like our MacTavish!!
Man I’ve been craving this push reel mower so bad lately. I want to go mow again, but I want to do it quietly. I know the neighbors are judging lol. “He’s out there again?!he just mowed yesterday.” Well I want it down another 1/2” don’t judge me lol 😅😅
Hey Ryan I just ordered this mower through your affiliate link hope that helps you a bit...
Fun stuff looking to see how the back yard reacts to the different heights! Yay. No one can comment about your rake not having a handle now 🤣👍
First Aussie 😁The trixter of camera angles. Is Ryan taking over Stripermans spot of the manual reel mowing channel?
How long does it take to mow with a manual reel mower? I’m really tempted to get one but I have 10,000 sq ft. Maybe I’ll just do my front lawn which is only 6,000. I just don’t want to spend half a day mowing if I’m going to be maintaining a low height of cut under 2 inches I’ll have to do it 2 or 3 times a week. Right now it takes me about 1.5 hrs to do my lawn with a 21” Honda. I know these manual reel mowers come in 16-20” versions. Larger one of 18 or 20” is probably the way to go for how much grass I have to cut. What do you think, could I do that much grass in a reasonable amount of time?
I wouldn't likely use a manual one as a main machine. Nothing wrong with them but it does take some time and a good workout. I'd probably do about 2500 max
As always love your lawn and videos. Top notch grass. Btw, its nice to hear that you rescued those angels. Be very careful, they may become more famous than you 😆.
I was about ready to come fix that rake for you.....
Ryann where did you get that leaf bag holder from then kept the bag open!? That's life changing lol!
amzn.to/2HmazKv
you make reel push mowers look so friendly and nice. they have a completely different philosophy and approach. the frequency of cut and thatch build up are alot different. made a lot of mistakes =(
How much water are you putting down to keep that yard so green? I'm in VA and everyone's grass is toasted over here
David Longenecker not everyone’s lol
@@RVALawnLove how much do you water? Driving through my area, I haven't seen a single green lawn. (Near Charlottesville)
David Longenecker every other day when it’s over 90
Nice dog :) I like dogs. Thumb up for your dog :)
Started to sound like an Ocean's movie when you started the watering portion of the video. How are the mosquitos in your yard?
Pretty much non-existent...one major difference from my home state of MN where they are insanely bad
Love the Electra, love the edits. How far from Omaha, we've been getting some good rain!!
Its awesome you can mow at 630 in the morning and not disturb anyone in the neighborhood.
That neighbor next door would drive me crazy. I know you don't have any control over them. I understand not everyone likes to do yard work, but cutting the grass and trimming once a week is not that hard. It comes with home ownership. Just cutting and trimming would be a big improvement. I guess you can't pick your neighbors. Keep up the great job Ryan. I wish you were my neighbor.
take the roller off the manual reel mower so it doesn't lay the grass down, also when you smooth out your front yard again and seed r u going to mix in some bluegrass
That is not possible.
Awww the puppers, I love the pups! My dogs kind of rule the back yard lol. I’m really interested to see how that section in the back does compared with a rotary cut side by side. I’m tempted to get one now that I’m renovating my front lawn. I’d like to start mowing around an inch or 1.5 on my kbg. Starting with my Honda though since it’s what I have. Hopefully it does alright at that height for now. So how long does the manual reel mower take for you? I have 6k sq ft in the front and 4.4k in the back I’m worried that it would take me forever to mow that without an engine lol.
There is a video out there where a person mounted a push reel mower to the front forks of his bicycle and he rides it to cut his lawn. Funny.
m.ua-cam.com/video/Zls6Ge583lI/v-deo.html
Beautiful dogs!
Would you water a fescue lawn that much? Seemed like a very long time.
Lovely dogs.
Hey Ryan quick question how much did you get the green works manual reel for??? ☆☆☆Love the westy's too...☆☆☆
12:43 Perfect place for an RKLC decal.
How often are you watering the backyard, and are you watering the same timing as what you showed in the video? (1hr45min/.5inch)?
Would quick connect with the spikes make the job easier?
Restricts flow in most cases
Nelson still makes some without the built in automatic shutoff on disconnect. It has no restrictions. I have them on the end of ever sing thing that I have. I haven’t threaded any in years.
Ryan Knorr Lawn Care Got ya. I thought about making one like that just yours because of the pure fact that it tedious moving them around all the time.
Are you using any humic products on your front lawn?
WestO beer! Was just in Boji last weekend and discovered them. Their Shandy.... 👌🏾
It's insanely good
Thought I was going to have to mail you a rake handle. Lol
the end of the video was handled well
What do you do about the Pythium? I noticed those webs on my lawn earlier this year! It seems to have gone away as far as I can see but that is perhaps because there is less dew at this time of year. Any tips appritiated. :) Thanks for the great channel!
Could also be dollar spot showing up but either way....let it ride and see what happens or fork over some cash for fungicide. The fungicide for pythium is about $150 for a 32 oz bottle.
Great ending!
Where did you get that contraption that goes over the lawn bag? I have a plastic one that drives me nuts.
I have an infestation of grubs got rid of grubs and it did a bunch of damage to a certain area what time of year should I put down new soil
If you are doing grass seed then 8 weeks before your first typical frost
Do you think that Scotts reel I could use on my TTTF on the highest setting come Fall time?
My childhood dog is a Westie and she is 17!
They don't seem to be extremely common but they are awesome!
Ryan, have you been treating the fungus or did you use any preventative products before you got it?
I was using preventative for a while earlier in the summer. It didn't really make a huge difference so knowing it's close to fall now, I'm just riding it out.
is that reel mower self propelled?
What is the thing that holds the lawn bag open called?
Hey man what’s the plan with the pythium blight besides getting away from the rye. Same problems over here in OMA. Seems to leave the KBG alone but man it has gotten after the rye. Probably not gonna do much about it this year but thinking about starting early next year with mefanoxam, just not sure I want drop the coin on that for a small yard. Curious if that is that what you were thinking about when you mentioned a fungicide in your earlier video?
Yeah the rye is susceptible and it has been had this year. I've got that plus some brown patch and a multitude of things going so I did end up dropping coin on mefenoxam and will be spraying that tomorrow.
Hope that goes well. Looking forward to hearing the results.
If you go any lower in the backyard, you're going to have to get a triplex! I've heard that you drive them like a maniac ;-)
Go Twins!!!!!
They need some help right about now
@@ryanknorrlawncare they need some starting pitching right now.
that white reel mower looks like a space ship haha
An hour and forty-five minutes of watering? daily? how much is your water bill sir!
You guys have such cute puppies :)
I really wish there was a way to not get the washboarding ripple effect you get with Manual reel mowers, even those with 7 blades seem to have it just by the nature of how slow they rotate.
It would make my life way easier if I could use one of them.
Yes that is a downside to the manual ones when the turf gets thick
Didn’t you install a sprinkler system in your back yard?
No...landscape work needs to happen around my shed where the lines were going to go so no point in digging them back up again
What fungicides are you using for the pythium?
Nothing right now. I'm just riding it out until fall. Mefenoxam would be what I would use for fungicide
How are your project lawns doing?
Didn't you just have an irrigation system installed?
Did u get the automatic irrigation system going yet? And does it run in the back?
No system in the back. We have some possible landscape work to do where lines needed to go and I didn't want to have to move them in the near future
Try out a traveling sprinkler for a while. They make for great videos.
6:19 am "Well, good morning ..." Don't mind the Leiny's Summer Shandy ...
how long do you wait to re seed the lawn when using glyphosate?
It depends if you want to do a reapply to make sure you got everything or not. Otherwise technically it can be seeded right away but a few days is fine
Ya'll so quick
Better than the neighbors yard. Crab grass takeover
Does the mp3000 truly reach 30 feet?
If you have the water pressure then yes
What’s the song at 9:22??
Sounds like someone got that reel for a great deal haha
