I enjoyed watching this playthrough. Fun to hear everybody's private thoughts in a game that has the possibility of opposing goals. Do more gameplay like this!
I believe if u spawn an intruder to an actual room it triggers a surprise attack. If you did a move and secure you get rid of the secure token but don’t receive the surprise attack.
Really enjoyed the video. In general I love watching gameplay with Alex and Meg. It’s more for the enjoyment of watching you guys play than to make a decision on backing the game. Keep up the great content!
Really loved this "on the side commentary" editing! Fit the theme/atmosphere of the game. I don't know if it's a pain to shoot like that, but definitely would love to see more of that style. If the game fits it of course.
my guess is that the card shows all of the corridors connected to the room (including the one you use to enter the room) if this is the case, the corridor he added was in the wrong place too.
they've made a mistake. You have to put the corridors in the exact places the card shows with two exceptions: 1. Don't put the corridor if the card shows a corridor in the position of the one you used to move into the new room because it already exists (obviously :D) and if the card shows a condition for the corridor (noise marker or door) it doesn't apply. 2. Don't put the corridor if the card shows a corridor in a position where it leads to an already existing room. So, in this case, they should have put both corridors from that first exploration card. The second rule is cool, because it leads to different complex layouts for every gameplay and the game has rules to open corridors between adjacent rooms that doesn't have direct connection: i.e. using demolition charges or the drill robot.
That common objective mechanic sucks big time. It basically turns the game from the semi-co-op that it was, to a full co-op. In the previous 2 games you had the corporate objective which was always destructive to other players and the personal one, which while it wasn't destructive, it was different for everyone, so the players' goals wouldn't align. i hope they change something to that mechanic.
I've seen several playthroughs now where a) there just wasn't many aliens on the board most of the game and the tension for most of the play was lower than expected, b) the Queen came out too early and was too easy to roll over. Hopefully AR is watching and tweaking the rules. A baseline, steady stream of aliens with some swings of luck might work better. Maybe a couple tiles trigger (and possibly empower) the Queen so to avoid anticlimactic games.
I think they played some rules wrong. And forgot to roll some noises and add some corridors, and flip ammo tokens, and decrease oxygen for like a quarter of the game, which would have made the game harder. They also drew the blank token quite often too, so a bit lucky there, made the game easier too. Anyways, this is just a prototype, so all these early playthroughs are just to get an overall idea of the game, the finished game is going to be much more polished. That being said, i don't like the common objective. It turns the game from a semi-co-op to a full co-op. In the previous Nemesis, you had some secret objectives (the personal ones) that while they were not destructive to other players, they were different, so your goals would not align.
This might have been the first board game play through I've ever watched to the end. Really fun watching some relatable people play a mellow game of xeno murder. The fly away song at the end was the best. Looking forward to when this releases.
Finally 😃 I’m also looking forward for the Back or not to Back. Would specially like to know if someone is new to Nemesis , should it get original or retaliation?
Save you the time. Back. Id also say just get retalliation. There are a lot of mechanics that makes the game run smoother. I like the tile set up process with the cards telling you where to place coridors. Makes every game more unique.
I feel Retaliation has many nice improvements, but I feel like semi-coop is weaker in this iteration. I wish they would have kept it in the same way as it was in the previous games.
From the first card you missed a corridor I believe. Also your first move ended in the room with fire should have given you a light wound. And why did Meg have three moves, one to move, one to fire and one to move again?
I had a card that let me move and burst as a single action, could that be what you're thinking of? I use it whenever it cycles to my hand because I thought it was quite useful!
@ProfessorMeg Well, I guess this is the weird part of playing new games with ten thousand people watching. Haha. I don't even like playing with one person standing over my shoulder, let alone a whole town. Anyway, thanks for sharing the game play Meg. :)
Thanks for the play through. As a new Nemesis fan I’m going to get this and the original. I love the original and many people seem to prefer it to lockdown.
In the previous games, players didn't need to roll for noise if they moved into a room with another character. Has this changed? Alex rolled when moving into Meg's room if I remember correctly.
@@haxan6663 if I understood, it's not that there is no oxygen, but in fact the oxygen in the air is deadly for you, until you repair the system in those sections.
There could always be some pipes with the necessary ingredients that have broken causing a fire. Also, I'm pretty sure other elements can be used as the oxidizer in certain situations to fuel combustion, but I'm no chemist that's for sure.
Am I mistaken or are you supposed to roll for noice every time you move even if you move into a room with an allie or enemy? And I didn't think you could interact with rooms or the robots if there's an intruder in the room? If these are mistakes, I completely understand, but it makes it difficult to know what the rules of the game are when they're constantly being forgotten.
19:30 Have the rules changed from the original Nemesis for noise rules? I'm almost certain that in the original version when moving to a room already occupied by another player you don't have to make a noise roll.
I haven’t seen any other reviewers compare retaliation vs the other two… o don’t mind if they’re not compatible or even sized the same, but I’d still like to see the scale.

I want to get into this series but the original core box is super expensive. Is Retaliation a good entry point or should I focus on just getting the core box?
Well I cannot speak for retaliation, but I would recommend Lockdown if you want only one base game. It is a little bit more complex but it is better balanced I would say. But I have everything for nemesis and love it all.
@@BoardGameCoabout how big is the game board? I already have the lockdown mat so I was wondering if it was big enough to hold the whole retaliation board so I don't need to buy the new mat
It seems crazy to me they would make the map so big. With so many great games I’ll stick with ones that fit on my (reasonably sized) table without having to reach for everything. I went from huge anticipation to hard pass :/
I don't disagree, I've generally been wary of games that start to clog the table. This one isn't so bad that I would eliminate it out of hand, but it definitely falls into the category of making sure the game is worth the tablespace
Having obtained some of the items from earlier terrain packs (the doors, eggs), it seems a bit repetitive, but I ordered it anyway because of the robot minis
im tempted to get all acrylic upgrades and construction pack for original and retalliation. but might pass on the terrain pack, simply because, it seems doors is the only necessary improvement in it
I missed these kinds of play through videos that Jesse used to do. I’m glad to see you take on that style. It doesn’t have to be perfect. I know you mentioned in the week in review that the audio wasn’t great time to time but I don’t think it matters. I enjoy seeing the commentary as you go talking about the decisions made.
Thanks, I'm open to doing more of them, but I really want to get a bunch of other things better about them. Anything from overlays with the guests names, better setup, better audio, etc. They certainly won't be frequent on the channel, but I can do more.
I think there's a balance of being in a filmed playthrough when you're the only one who's played the game. I'm sure I won't always make the perfect judgement call. I'll note that your comment, as a viewer and not the person affected, is giving far less grace than the people actually affected here.

Hhm Alex, don’t know, if the Game would be released, I would strongly disagree. Then I watch Playthroughs, not only for the feeling of a Game, but also for learning the rules while watching. Since Boardgamers usually are the one kind of people who care about Rules, don’t you think?
Ultimately this play through left me feeling it was more important to thrash through it to “get it done” then take in the experience, ensure that it’s being played with whatever rules have been released, and give us viewers and backers of retaliation a good sense of gameplay. Your reply to me to “be mindful of what I watch” comes across as…if you don’t like it, go elsewhere

Reminded me of Game Knights (I think), an MTG show that I think Meg has been on a few times before.

my guess is that the card shows all of the corridors connected to the room (including the one you use to enter the room) if this is the case, the corridor he added was in the wrong place too.
