    Folks, here we have an Altman Guitars AD-2, made from old stock Adirondack spruce, and exquisite waterfall mahogany. i’m selling it for a friend, however I owned this instrument for about a year when it was new, and I can honestly say there has never been a mahogany dreadnought which impressed me more than this one.
    Specks, SN 194, was completed in early 2021, beautiful Adirondack spruce top, forward shifted and scalloped Adirondack bracing, gorgeous waterfall mahogany, which originated in Belize or Honduras, and the Altman family has paperwork on it going back to it being imported in New Orleans in the 1940s, mahogany neck with volute, gold Waverly tuners, 1 3/4 nut width, adjustable truss rod, EVO Gold frets, 41 style fingerboard inlay, Altman banner on Brazilian rosewood headstock overlay, bone nut, saddle and bridge pins, Ebony fingerboard with compound radius, Ebony slotted bridge with 2 5/16 spacing, long saddle, purpleHeart bridge plate, 28 style herringbone for top appointments, fully bound, (top, back, neck and headstock) with ivoroid, customized back strip, varnish finish on top, with nitro finish on back, sides and neck. The neck is very vintage inspired, and here are some measurements to help you understand the size of it: thickness,
    1st.875 3rd. .905 5th. .938 7th. .984 9th. 1.028.
    Width taper, 1st. 1 13/ 16 3nd. 1 15 / 16 5th. 2 1/ 64 7th. 2 1/ 16 9th. 2 1/8.
    If you watch the accompanying video, I believe the sound will speak for itself. This instrument has that vintage tone and dryness that many people rave about, And the volume is simply astounding! this guitar responds with such ease in the right hand, that it is virtually effortless to come across in a large ensemble, without wearing yourself out. The bass is deep and booming, but not muddy. All I can tell you is, this is truly an amazing instrument, I have said that since the first time I played it, and the same still holds true today. You would have to go a long way to run with this one! The condition is excellent, with only a few small scratches/dents in the varnish, along with very minor marks of handling. Comes with a TKL HSC case.
    Asking price is $10,000, which is several thousand dollars below the current retail price; also there are some features such as varnish, which are now unavailable from the maker.

      @@ShawnBrockMusic well you do a great job showcasing what you have in each video. You have a very comprehensive way of demonstrating these guitars and showing what they can each do. I can't afford any of them at the moment but I still enjoy watching

    That is definitely a keeper. I've never seen that color before, very attractive, as for the sound, well it does sound better than 95 percent of the 18's I've heard it's probably that mahogany it's rare stuff. I'm gonna check it out. Great demo

      Thanks for watching Joe. Yeah, I really love this mahogany, and have played a few of them made from it, alongside specimens which Altman made from some different mahogany, and it does make some difference.

    Floored Shawn! Listen to that! string balance yet warmth. The power is there when you need to it. Someone will be extra glad they bought this build. I wish the neck was a little thinner or I would consider it! Thanks for the show.

      Man I sure do appreciate it! I tell you, I don’t know why people are waiting on the Cocobolo One I posted a few days ago. That thing is a beast, plus it has a smaller more Martin low oval type neck. You should check it out if you are in the market.

    I would vote that the sound on that is like canadian wildfire . 2023 was HARD here, (as, yes, everywhere) I played more guitar than actually went outside, here in brain-dead CT. Not fun. Yeah Covid, (BS) when everybody went back to momma nature , hoping to stay fed and married. Guitars helped us all a lot. This one is in the top three, the Jimmy still for the win, but wow that was really, really nice. Amazing and authentic build!

    Another Monster Bluegrass dreadnought and a monster flat picker behind it and driving it..Very impressive..The bottom end and bass sounds like a big dry, hollow log..TAD42? Are you getting to like the XS 80/20 now? What do you hear vs XS P.B.?

    • @ShawnBrockMusic
      @ShawnBrockMusic  3 місяці тому

      Hi Bill, thank you very much sir. yes, I like these 80/20 a lot more than I did when they first came out. I think the recipe got refined a little better after a few months. However, the owner had them on it when he sent it, and I saw no reason to change. Actually, this is the first video where I have went back to TS; I preferred them and Apollo over BC, so I figured why not lol.
