The one thing that still upsets me the NFL waited till after he died to put him in the Hall. I wasn't watching football in the 70's (I was too young) became a Raiders fan in 1980 (at 9). I've watched so many old Raiders games and read the "Snake" book multiple times. He's still my favorite qb, I even have a Stabler jersey. RIP Snake.

You can’t imagine what it was like to grow up in the Bay Area watching the snake and the Raiders, the game was different, the players were different, the fans were different, California was different, we were blue collar, the team was blue collar, I would see them at restaurants, they visited our schools, that whole era was magical, across the whole country. It’s sad to remember when you see what has happened to this country, different times

Snake was the embodiment of Raider football well beyond stats/numbers. The swagger, the icy look on a final drive....When I see all these new age run option/wildcat/playground sprinters lining up over center makes me wish Snake could come out, take the field one more time and show them how it's done

Great Interview! I watched him play for years as a kid. I was a loyal Raiders fan because of him. He was the greatest comeback player I ever saw. The Raiders were almost never out of a game because of the Snake. He knew how to win football games and lead last minute drives to victories. Amazing player who was cool under pressure. He was a smooth and confident quarterback who knew how to win.
I watched him win games week after week. He was exciting to watch and I never missed a Raiders game back then.
And now he is finally in the HOF. They gave it to him posthumously which is ridiculous! He should have been admitted immediately after retiring.
    RIP Kenny Stabler

Yes I remember Kenny the snake stabler, lived in San Jose calif in the mid sixties used to go to the games in the old Oakland stadium, those were the days of great hard nosed football and great afc teams that were a pleasure to watch, yea Kenny was a great clutch quarterback, in one of his interviews he said the Raider’s were the only AFC team that traveled with a bail bondsmen, I never laughed so hard, it was true, they played hard on the field as they did off the field , those days are gone forever, too bad they were great while they lasted, and I’m greatfull I was there to see it .

Listening to the Snake, Marty Lyons, Joe Namath and others, they waived a huge amount of money, as a teenager, to play for Bear. They don't talk about how he made them better players, they talk about how he made them better men.

Snake was a tremendous natural athlete It is hard to fathom that early on, the Raiders farmed him out to a Continental League team in Tacoma. But when you have Daryle Lamonica and George Blanda in front of you, that happened back then. I remember the NFL Films highlights when Kenny did get in a ball game for the first time, he had a giant smiley decal on the back of his helmet 🙂. This was over 50 years ago. He liked a fried oyster sandwich down in Mobile, the Redneck Riviera.

It is amazing to think just how great a baseball pitcher Kenny "Snake" Stabler would have been had he accepted the NY Yankees offer of a $50,000 contract in 1967 (which in today's dollars would be $450,359.28 !) to play MLB!

As a kid snake lived 3 blocks from us my best friend had a brother that was good friends with Kenny .he would come over and throw foot balls to us kids I was 10 when he graduated from Foley in 1964 . His daddy was a mechanic at Klumpp Chevrolet in Foley the old building is still there ,his mother was a nurse for Dr Marvin Taylor she saw him on national TV his hair was down to his shoulders she called him and told him if he could not afford a haircut with the money he made she would be glad to pay Paul Gaubatz to cut it .She would go to the local radio station and call Kenny and talk to him on telephone on the radio

Nah, Stabler had decent speed, he said he could beat Fred Bilitnikof in a foot race. Steve Young could outrun Jerry Rice.

Were u a cop & Snake your CI? If not, it’s just another rumor. And, it has nothing to do with football or the fact that he is the greatest QB that played for the Raiders.

At age 60 now and not an NFL fan since Gruden was fired. But I grew up bleeding Silver and Black. I bet $60 of paper route money on Stabler to beat the Vikings to win the first gamble of my life. So sad how "woke-ism" just takes the joy out of everything it touches.
