I actually really appreciate the complete transparency on this one. One of my biggest pet peeves of all the rebuilds on youtube is nobody ever actually gets into the nitty gritty of the cost. It's always just a video of throwing parts at something till its done, then they give a ballpark number at the end that is most likely way lower than they actually sunk into it. I will definitely be watching this one till the end.
A tractor I think would be fun for you to have a look at would be a Field Marshall, shotgun shell start! (But you have to try starting it by hand, saltpetre is allowed!)
My opinion from the states is skip the rare birds. I found your channel on Ford 3000s and what I would call the mundane reality if enjoying these bits of yard art. I cant buy a field marshall sure I'd love to run a hot bulb diesel in a neutral idle. But. . Its not a tractor that exists in the world like ford Ferguson Massey's white brown etc.
Like a true tractor guy, time never enters the equation. Good on y'all for fixing her up. I'll be intrigued with the progress. Honestly, I would have parted it out, with rarity comes scarce and exponentially pricey parts. But I heartily understand "I've always wanted one". To quote an ambitious US citizen "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!". Thanks Muck, best regards from Indiana, USA.
That 148 engine sure perks my interest, It would make for a strong MF175. Rebuilding the 175 you will know what you have when your done. All the small bits will add up, but you know that. Should be a good tractor when your done.
really pleased your going to give the 175 a chance, these sort of projects you do cause you want to and to a point the money isn't a factor as such. the amount of stone wall faces i get when people ask how much i spent on my diamond t and i tell them about 40K when i stopped bothering to keep a count lol but i did it because i wanted to and it will be a truck for life. hard to make money out of restoring vehicles to then sell on if not impossible in most cases any way i think.
Evening mucker pleased to here the 175 is gonna be restored look forward to seeing it. It would be nice to see you have look round a track marshall 155 haven't seen one for a few years.
Any modern classics like 40 series Fords, TMs, 10 series Deere’s, or a county or roadless of some kind would be very interesting to see. Great video mucker👍
Glad to hear your restoring the 175.. Recently viewed a 1930s hanomag 4 cylinder diesel. Fine tractor. Even had a sprung front axle. One of my favourite tractors would be a mf 699. Spent many a happy hour on one.
I have always liked 'process', i.e. know where you start and set out the steps to get you where you are going. Vitally importantly, identify the break points that will stop you achieving your end point. Your discussion clearly set that out, with good, best estimate ballpark figures. I agree, on over estimating costs and times on the way in so, you end up with pleasant, not terrible exit surprises is the way to go.
I paid £1900 for a rough MF35, threw £2500 at it to rebuild the engine, front axle and linkage. Still looks rough but at least I can another ten years of work out of it now! I don't think I'd get my money back if I sold it tomorrow! Good luck withe the 175!🤞
The Massey 178 was the first model to use the A4.248 engine followed by the 185 and 188. You need PAVT wheels for the rear, they defined a 175 back in the day.
Good to see you're going to do the 175 , very rewarding to bring something back from being scrapped. When you have that engineering empathy , money isn't the reason, it's just about saving what once was a fairly decent tractor. All the best to you mulord.
If you ever get a chance to get a look at a 4wd Ford 7810, I'd be over the moon. I've no idea why, but it's my favourite tractor ever. Keep up the excellent content mucker, looking forwards to what you've got coming up!
Back about half a lifetime ago, my dad had a 1928 John Deere "B" model. Have you seen one of those on your side of the pond? With a 2 cylinder engine, it wasn't the fastest thing around, but it would out pull most similar sized tractors in the late '60's. I haven't seen one around these parts in years now. Loved the breakdown of costs. I would have guessed it would have cost quite a bit more.
When I first saw the 175, I thought you should keep the exhaust and throw away the rest but I didn't realise that they were rare. Best of luck with the rebuild, you'll need it. As for what tractor I would like to see around, a Muir Hill, any model.
i had never thought about the 175 being rare, but yes your right thinking about it , we ran 165’s ,and others ran 185’s around us, and then they went 168’s. and 188’s , i cant recall seeing any 175’s around and in those days it was all mf and fords around where we farmed so i would have seen them ,certainly don’t recall seeing any at the mf dealer we used in downham market where we bought all our mf’s from , nice to see all the thought process in the final decisions as well ,cheers guys . another old girl saved .
Great decision on the 175, looking forward to seeing the progress. Tractors to go and see, I've always had a soft spot for the Fiat 1580 dt and 18 80. Just a great looking tractor. Keep up the good work.
Another good video, interesting through out, when the task is done to hopefully be in pocket is a positive. Hope its not to old a 1953 Nuffield, first tractor I had dealing with great memories come back
Glad your going to restore this, it will be worth the time and effort. Back in the mid 90s I got to drive a Marshall 100 was a great tractor. If you could find one of those would be great
Liken the honesty. My first memory of a tractor was a 175 with a cab with sliding door. Sold in the 80’s and replaced with a 168 and the 168 is still going.
Thanks for the video . Glad you are doing the 175, I was thinking there can't be many about after the export and years of abuse. I was at 6 - 7 K on a bad day to do that with parts, tires and paint. I guess you guys have a trade account with somebody like Bepco, that really helps keep costs sensible if you are well connected like that. In Canada it's hard to get those accounts even with a repair business like mine ,The other repair shops can keep me out because the suppliers ask them when I apply for an account if they mind "can you say protectionist racket". To be honest I don't know a tractor I'd like to see I've seen most of them over the years. Now a digger I'd say a real nice last year proper grey cab 3cx Sitemaster before the plastic ones came out. After George buying that Belarus, I'd bet he'd buy us the chip order to, just off to add mine L.O.L Take care Mucker & Fud weasel
Is it the same in the UK that sometimes even though a tractor might be mechanically workable, if the sheet metal is missing or rotten, the cost of replacing it becomes the deal breaker?
International TD9 petrol diesel crawler. (I know where there are a couple if you are interested. They are in North Essex). Looking forward to seeing the 175 brought back from the brink.
I know I said to throw in the towel with the 175 but I'm glad you're going to give it a second chance. I didn't realise how few and far between these have become. I know it's going off at a tangent but have a look at an odd diesel powered pulling tractor.
I've always wanted to see a Lamborghini tractor (for those who don't know, yes, Lamborghini was making tractors before he made cars) or perhaps a Deutz. Looking forward to the 175's progress! 👍
You asked what tractor to look at and I thought a Zetor crystal. Then a scroll down and a few others say the same. Have a look how much room you have in the cab to grow tomato's! cheers Jim in NZ
Deutz Fahr D7807 C. No other reason than happy memories and the smell of summer. Dust, diesel, heat and barley to the uninitiated. Forgot, how much is George charging for delivery? 😁
Cracking video Podge! I like the sitting, chatting, informing us as you go. Your vids always put a smile on my face. I’m just about to place my order with George 😄 🐟 🍟 👌
I think you made the right choice keeping the tractor. I would like to see you look at a farmall 656 as I just aquired one a few months back. Love your videos!
For me in the US this is the Mitchell and Webb of tractors. Wonder if that's how it translates in country? Low speed towards a crash with moments of clarity and some conflict resolution but paired with the dread that you expect everytime you put a wrench on metal.

Another great video. Good seeing all the true costing of stuff, makes folks like me who are thinking about getting a project think about all the costs involved with these old girls. Would love to see a video on an old zetor, one of the first tractors I ever drove

Good man mucker, your pretty accurate with your restroring prices. I restored a leyland 270,ford 7810, john deere 4050. People think it costs fuk all. Its only when you strip it down, that you see its true costs, and value, at the end of it.
Hi Mucker really glad you and the weasel are going to be doing the 175 up, it’s a shame she’s in a right state. We had one on the farm for going in the chittin green house. Fenland Rob
Well done Mucka, I was really worried that it was going to be broken for parts, the Fudweasel is the best person to do the engine on that, be better with a 236, maybe one day XD, I'd love a 168 one day, drove one over the summer for a friend of mine, shame they're all so bloody dear! I'd love you to have a look round a 300 series MF or maybe a IH 885 or similar
I would like to see the 1184-40 county we had one here that went on fire I was only young so never got to look at it. Good walk around and the history and why it was made etc and a look at the mechanical side.
You need to go get yourself some seat time in a White 2-105 or 2-110 but I doubt you’ll find one without a plane ticket. Lol. With the price you were talking for a rebuild on that engine perkins parts must be cheap and plentiful over there. I had to get a water pump for my 7300 a couple years ago and it was 250 bucks just for the pump and gasket. And had to go clear down to an old perkins dealer in Louisiana to find it.
No kidding? I knew there was a importer in the Netherlands so there was a few in that area and some that migrated into France and Germany. Wonder who the UK importer was? Or if they made their way across the channel from mainland Europe? Never could figure out what the draw was on the White 4 wheel drives to warrant the hassle to ship them over there but apparently somebody liked them. Lol
Really enjoyed this one. Look forward to seeing what’s next. I’d like to see one of those old Zetors with the big cabs. Can never remember the model number but I know Dad used to drive one 👍🏻
Good to hear that the old 175 is getting a new lease on life. And my suggestion for a tractor to look at: MB Trac. No specific model per se. I like those tractors a lot, something different.
That 175 is well worth doing, as you say not many of them about, would be great to see some classic high horse power machines, just because i work with modern stuff at a dealer and 300hp/240hp tractors seem to be the most common now, maybe a comparison of old and new? Would be interesting
Agree completely Lord Muck n The Fud you get whats on the tin no bull jobbies
It would be good to see something on a Track Marshall 90 or similar.
A tractor I think would be fun for you to have a look at would be a Field Marshall, shotgun shell start! (But you have to try starting it by hand, saltpetre is allowed!)
ya that would be neat too

Like to see you look around a International 1455 please Mucker and since I’ve had bariatric surgery I can only do a kids portion of chips 🤣
I'd love to see a McCormick 523 with an Agriomatic gearbox. Way ahead of it's time.
Great suggestion. I've always wondered how those Agriomatic transmissions worked
I'm so pleased you're keeping this old tractor alive please keep me and everybody else updated
Like a true tractor guy, time never enters the equation. Good on y'all for fixing her up. I'll be intrigued with the progress. Honestly, I would have parted it out, with rarity comes scarce and exponentially pricey parts. But I heartily understand "I've always wanted one". Thanks Muck, best regards from Indiana, USA.
I always had a soft spot for a big same, like a hercules or a buffalo, seeing more of the brand would be good
That 148 engine sure perks my interest, It would make for a strong MF175. Rebuilding the 175 you will know what you have when your done. All the small bits will add up, but you know that. Should be a good tractor when your done.

An old Zetor Crystal, just to see how far ahead of the day they where !
Glad to see ur going ahead with it. Be really interested to see the project going through and the cost of doing it
I paid £1900 for a rough MF35, threw £2500 at it to rebuild the engine, front axle and linkage.

The first dozer I ran was a International TD14, love to reminisce with a walk around.

There's no bird's nest, but I think it might have been an aquarium. LOL.
Tadpoles in yer toolbox,🤣
I would love to see you have a look at a international 1255 or 1455
A big old Zetor, i better go order some onion rings now 🍻
trigger's broom that was a cracking sketch really made me laugh.
Good to see you're going to do the 175 , very rewarding to bring something back from being scrapped. When you have that engineering empathy , money isn't the reason, it's just about saving what once was a fairly decent tractor. All the best to you mulord.

Great bit of brainstorming Mucka , with the old Fudweasel . Would you look at the County tractors . I will ask George for mushy peas .🍽️🍏
Respect the decision to re build. Did not realise a 175 was less common.
Most of them ended up in the middle east
Back about half a lifetime ago, my dad had a 1928 John Deere "B" model. Have you seen one of those on your side of the pond? I know someone who had a tricycle B from new. I will enquire if he still has it.
I would love to see a Fendt 824 Favorit.
Wouldn’t mind seeing a video on a David brown 1490 hydra shift or a David brown 1690
When I first saw the 175, I thought you should keep the exhaust and throw away the rest but I didn't realise that they were rare. Best of luck with the rebuild, you'll need it. As for what tractor I would like to see around, a Muir Hill, any model.

Great vid as usual I would love to see you have a look at a massey Ferguson 2645 drove one back in 1986,87 haven’t really seen one since
Great decision on the 175, looking forward to seeing the progress.
Tractors to go and see, I've always had a soft spot for the Fiat 1580 dt and 18 80.
Just a great looking tractor.
Keep up the good work.
I would love to see a David brown 1690 or 1690T
As for tractor to look at would love to see an old Nuffield m4 first tractor I ever drove when I was about 7 lol
With all the water in the engine, no need to worry about overheating !⛲💦🚿🚽🚣🚰🐎♨
Love that Matador engine, looking forward to seeing more of that :D
Wish I could remember what Zetor my Dad had on the farm, but that would be good....I fancy some fish 'n' chips now.....
Another good video, interesting through out, when the task is done to hopefully be in pocket is a positive. Hope its not to old a 1953 Nuffield, first tractor I had dealing with great memories come back

1056.ih..2wd... beautiful soundtrack listening to the engine pull.. led cord and ploughed with one years ago one summer... it was a dream!!👍🏻
The 175 will turn out great, plenty of work but in the end a lovely rare tractor. Would love to see a Valtra N series on the channel after lockdown.
Thanks for the video . Glad you are doing the 175, I was thinking there can't be many about after the export and years of abuse. I was at 6 - 7 K on a bad day to do that with parts, tires and paint. A field Marshal or Lanz Bulldog would be great for you to have a look at or maybe a Fowler.
My Dads farm has both of them, I am sure a visit would be possible.
Is it the same in the UK that sometimes even though a tractor might be mechanically workable, if the sheet metal is missing or rotten, the cost of replacing it becomes the deal breaker?
Depends on the make and model
International TD9 petrol diesel crawler. (I know where there are a couple if you are interested. They are in North Essex). Looking forward to seeing the 175 brought back from the brink.
Case IH 1056 or 885 XL
would be good, great vid and stay safe and thanks for all you do.👍👍👍🚜
I know I said to throw in the towel with the 175 but I'm glad you're going to give it a second chance. I didn't realise how few and far between these have become.
I know it's going off at a tangent but have a look at an odd diesel powered pulling tractor.
Im glad Your restoring her. This being a Rare Tractor makes it a Done Deal too restore her. Great Video Thank You for sharing....
How about a closer look at something articulated- don't see many of those tractors in blighty. Looking forward to seeing the progress on the 175 👍🏻
The old Davy Brown tug my uncle had one years ago and as kids we thought it was a race car. LOL
175's were quite common here in NZ and I think they were replaced by the 178 in the early 70's ?
I've always wanted to see a Lamborghini tractor (for those who don't know, yes, Lamborghini was making tractors before he made cars) or perhaps a Deutz. Looking forward to the 175's progress! 👍
My grandads mate used to have a Lambo, never trust the wiring tho it burst into flames just ticking over in the yard 😂
Porsche also made tractors, Laverda made combines and motorbikes. Combines were crap thought!
Will be nice to see it all done, we had 5 188 in the 1970s lovely tractor, stay safe mate
Good luck on the 175 looking forward to seeing it running
You asked what tractor to look at and I thought a Zetor crystal. Then a scroll down and a few others say the same. Have a look how much room you have in the cab to grow tomato's! cheers Jim in NZ
Deutz Fahr D7807 C. No other reason than happy memories and the smell of summer. Dust, diesel, heat and barley to the uninitiated.
Forgot, how much is George charging for delivery? 😁
I'd love to see an old Magnum 7100 series, been a favorite of mine since I was about 4!
Cracking video Podge! I like the sitting, chatting, informing us as you go. Your vids always put a smile on my face. I’m just about to place my order with George 😄 🐟 🍟 👌
Would love to see a maasey harris general purpose...loving the channel..
What about a close look at a county 754 or a nuffield 460 made me hungry now better order cod and chips keep up the good work 😊😊👍
I think you made the right choice keeping the tractor. I would like to see you look at a farmall 656 as I just aquired one a few months back. Love your videos!
Any one of these not so common tractors would be interesting - MF 9240, Fiat Versatile articulated, Deutz Fahr Intrac, MB Trac.
For me in the US this is the Mitchell and Webb of tractors. Wonder if that's how it translates in country? Low speed towards a crash with moments of clarity and some conflict resolution but paired with the dread that you expect everytime you put a wrench on metal.
Think is a good way to go in small snippets as we have restored adexta&major luckily not as bad engine wise and you are spot on the way you are looking at costing
With the whiteboard, can you add to the side a rough estimate of time that will be required to fit them?
We can do that. It would be interesting to give an idea of what it would cost to pay someone to do the work.
It's probably a common tractor in the UK, a Massey Ferguson 35 with the 3 cylinder Perkins, that's one of my favourite tractors I hope to own one day, all the best Lord Muck from Qld Australia 🇦🇺 👍
Another great video. Good seeing all the true costing of stuff, makes folks like me who are thinking about getting a project think about all the costs involved with these old girls. Would love to see a video on an old zetor, one of the first tractors I ever drove
I agree with this fellow totally.makes scenes to give a run down of costs involved before deciding to get stuck in.good video and like to see a super major or old zetor reviewed👍
Glad to see the 175 will be restored, where my late father worked they had two on 1965 C plates, both with Winsam cabs, one with Multi Power and one without. I didn't know that they were rare now? Another vote for a Muir Hill from me.
Another great video mucka I'd love you to go and have a look at an old fiat 110-90 I've always loved the way they sound.
Bottom line, it's an education!! As the Carol King song says, "sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, most times you choose between the two". lol. I'll say a prayer for the 175 and move on lol. Great video, thank you!
I think an old Fendt Turbomatik might be quite interesting to have a look at. Old school modern.
Good man mucker, your pretty accurate with your restroring prices. I restored a leyland 270,ford 7810, john deere 4050. People think it costs fuk all. Its only when you strip it down, that you see its true costs, and value, at the end of it.
Ohh a renault 155_54 would be nice. Glad the 175 is being done. I've driven a 35, 135,165 &168 but never even seen a 175.
International T20 crawler. My dad resurrected one when I was a child, but unfortunately it got scrapped. So would be great to see one in action
I liked hearing you guys go through your process. It's like you are real guys or something.
The 236 would be nice for collector value but a grand in the pocket ain't nothing to kick rocks at nice video
John Conathey in Kells in Ireland 🇮🇪 has S/H 336 engine's in stock
So do I
Hi Mucker really glad you and the weasel are going to be doing the 175 up, it’s a shame she’s in a right state. We had one on the farm for going in the chittin green house. Fenland Rob
Drove a brand new 175 back in 64/65 when I was a sprog -I remember it had a cigarette lighter! Let's have a look at a Track Marshall 55
I would like to see a Big Bud. I don't know what model or the manufacturer. But I always like them.
I’m kinda curious if any are on that side of the pond, but they were a small production run.
As far as I'm aware there has never been a Big Bud over here.
Great vid mucker keep them coming. How about a look round a Muir hill? I’m getting peckish so large cod and chips it is. George is so generous.
The Fordson standard N to me it is a tractor icon and a war time hero 🚜👍🍻
Yes indeed. Or a Ferguson Brown - first production tractor with 3 point hitch
I'd love your thoughts on the new massey ferguson 1740 or the 1755.
A series 1 field Marshall would be great to see. You seem to see a lot of the later variants but not the series 1.
Ours was a Series 1 (out-straight-in exhaust)
I would like to see the 1184-40 county we had one here that went on fire I was only young so never got to look at it. Good walk around and the history and why it was made etc and a look at the mechanical side.
Definately a county variant for me 👌🏻👌🏻
Glad to see u are going to rebuild the 175 tractor the good old grey fergie (any) first one I drove
Only birds nest you were likely to find on that one Mucker is a duck, moorhen or a coot 😁👍 Glad you have decided to save her though
I recon the birds nest floated away when it was under water 😂
Nice one mukka 👌🏻
You need to go get yourself some seat time in a White 2-105 or 2-110 but I doubt you’ll find one without a plane ticket. Lol. With the price you were talking for a rebuild on that engine perkins parts must be cheap and plentiful over there. I had to get a water pump for my 7300 a couple years ago and it was 250 bucks just for the pump and gasket. And had to go clear down to an old perkins dealer in Louisiana to find it.
Next time call me 😉
I drove a Field Boss 150 for a summer in the early 1980s near Oxford. A few made it over here.
Lol
I think Haylock had a 180 some years back.
How about having a look round some Ponsse forestry kit, i’ve always been fascinated by it and something a bit different 👍🏻
That 175 is well worth doing, as you say not many of them about, would be great to see some classic high horse power machines, just because i work with modern stuff at a dealer and 300hp/240hp tractors seem to be the most common now, maybe a comparison of old and new? Would be interesting
