    The point of this drone is that it is SO small, and therefore stealthy. The design principle of making the target weight a priority, rather than down-scaling, is correct. PeyoteIguana That thing performs way better than a mall helicopter. It's closer in performance to collective pitch hobby micros but seems a lot simpler mechanically as well. If you've ever owned one of those things you know that keeping them running is like working on a watch and are incredibly hard to fly (they are basically full scale helicopters in micro form). This thing seems to have the performance without the associated mechanical complexity and difficult control.

      shodanxx folks are forgetting that quadcopters require more electricity. this thing is sophisticated enough to be as performant with a traditional copter design. it needs to be skinny and small so as to be undetectable and so the war fighter can fit as many as possible with the least amount of wait in his kit.

      tewkewl even if it's undetectable from your eyes we all do have ears right? ..listening to something like this is obvious, better do something about the motor noise, either make it total stealth or make it sound like birds or something

    Таких дронов можно по-идее будет перехватывать (в малом корпусе скорее всего не будет сильного шифрования канала), либо просто засорять эфир, чтобы они потеряли управление. Также никто не говорит, но ведь источник управления может быть обнаружен по источнику сигнала и устранён, об этом почему то никто не говорит, видимо, расчёт, что использоваться будет против сил не имеющих таких технологий.

      Micro transmitters could transmit to beacons on the GSM network (phones). The system wouldn't have to return to home as that would be wasting a lot of power. Better to get as much surveillance out of the little beast and when it runs out of power, it'll crash and self ignite.
      Alternatively, the receiver would be within a few miles that would have a helix antenna for long range reception (10Km etc).

    • @rasmasyean
      @rasmasyean 10 років тому +3

      digitalbroadcaster What a great military strategy! Install GSM towers and cell phone base station buildings around the enemy location before spying on them!
      Alternatively, we can place a 50 pound Lithium Ion battery on that little sucka so it can transmit 10 km!

    • @digitalbroadcaster
      @digitalbroadcaster 10 років тому

      Ah, but they do use portable GSM systems to monitor GSM traffic. Encoding and encrypting a video codec to send in packets would be easy enough.

      do you know how much money is poured into developing the $5 optical mouse that we can get on ebay these days? Do you know how much money 3M used to develop the sticky note which only costs you a few bucks for a 100 of them? Making something never exist before and bring it into reality is gold. Well... despite of the fact that if the design will be profitable and become popular or not. Not to mention aerodynamic is hard. Aerodynamic is hard math and engineering.... the "worst" kind of engineering....

    • @BrandoDrum
      @BrandoDrum 10 років тому

      Well, low volume production and r&d mockups will cost more on paper. Think how much the first iPhone before they went into production cost. All of the development time for iOS, the touch screen, camera, battery, processor etc would be lumped into that single unit. Mass producing them though after all of that is setup means 50 bucks a pop.
      I'm fairly certain the negotiated price to keep them out of the hands of the enemy also has something to do with their inflated value. Force the enemy to develop their own by keeping the price artificially high. It's a tactic, not an abuse.

    • @MaRkPerHouR
      @MaRkPerHouR 10 років тому

      other than its large range ... i dont know why it costs so much. even so, 10K is way to much to develop such a thing. put in consideration that a lot of tiny helis are sold out there.

      Most drones don't come with night vision, thermal imaging, have secure communication links, etc. they do more than shot video and take pictures. They are not toys.

    • @xxwzaebd
      @xxwzaebd 8 років тому

      rainbowsixODST You can get thermal imaging for about $200. Once the market reaches,the chinese makers will make ir imaging a basic functionality of toy drones. Secure communication is also basically encryption and path issue which the Chinese are well capable of. Norway has no technology and cannot even make ships. Europe does not have advanced communication technology and is getting economy aid in such from Korea.

    Wow! Since this is so easy and cheap why are there no videos posted here from you idiots that think you can build one of these for less than a $100? I don't understand how you think this is a toy. Yes you can buy rc heli's with gyro's on the cheap.....but guess what, they are basically garbage. So good luck following this one on the trip he demonstrated. Decent hobbygrade rc helis can cost up to $1000 and the real good ones can easily hit ten grand and take many man hours to build. There are none with these capabilities this tiny. A run of the mill gps unit is $300 and 3 times the size of that pd-100. A lithium polymer battery small enough to fit in there and power all the systems for this thing would be at least $200 alone. In the RC FPV world, something that fly's that far on a gps auto fn pilot costs minimum 4 figures and they are HUGE compared to this little guy.

  • @sadclown1400
    @sadclown1400 9 років тому

    Can it fly in windy conditions?
    Can it follow target?
    What about automated runs? Monitor an area assigning its own path ways. Can return to recharge when needed.
    Can it recover from crashing?
    Does it have thermal-vision? Current camera looked like crap.
    What db level does it have atm? Sounded pretty loud to me.
    Anyway. These kind of drones can be prevented with an electric-bubble aka electric-net.
    In combination with other protections Drones are not really a threat.
    Still a fun geeky technical challenge though. Very expensive but fun.
