A truly angelic voice that touched me forever when I first heard her with Joe Jackson so many years ago. It will continue to be heard in the heaven of music. Rest In Peace Allison. ❤
Am I 13 years too late to say, I love your amazing voice? I watched you with Joe Jackson live in Paris and I searched you out, Allison. All the instruments and your well balanced vocals on all styles, especially Brazilian! 💓💕🤣❤️🎶🎶🎶
This version of this song is pure genius. I remember the first time I heard this track - I nearly crashed my car... Alison is the best female vocalist I've ever heard. Just BRILLIANT!
She was not a "drag queen". On the album this song was song by a "drag queen". Or Joe Jackson, himself song this part of the song. And in his fantasy, he meansiong an "out of the bleu name' Live song "ALLISON CORNELL THIS PART". With succes in mine opinion. She sing more than beatiful. Her voice is golden. R.I.P Allison Cornell.
She was not the "draggueen"on the album. Nobosy knows who he/she is. Possible is that J.J. himself, with an turned voice these vocals did. She is bij far 10 times better. But not the Draggueen from the album. Night and day 2.
First time I saw Allison perform this in Toronto with JJ I was in a vacuum … she was riveting. Hahaha. I was so happy when they put out the live version with her on it.
Allison, I don't know if Mr Jackson ever formally ceded this song to, but you do own it. How does he always find the perfect person for each note in every song?
I Joe and the band twice on the Night and Day II tour. It was the BEST Joe tour ever, imj. Allison completely rocked this song! Joe's arrangements and instrumentation are genius!
Joe Jackson has been such an inspiration for so long. His commitment to his craft and to honest music making to the best of his ability has always seemed apparent and admirable,….with so often, such fresh and beautiful results,…194ever,…Sentimental thing,..Glamour and pain,….beautiful strong vocal on this version,…thanks for all the hard work and passion Joe
I cannot get enough of this video! I love this version just as much as the original! I log into youtube just to watch this video! Wish I could have seen it live. Absolutely amazing!
Thanks Leo - I'll do my best to make it over there soon, ready to play! And may I just add a big thank you, I've said it before, for all the amazing beer your country produces... like Franziskaner. Outstanding! Hope you're a fan too.
I agree that this is the best track on the album. saw alison on tour with joe in '95 and '01. both times in Birmingham in the UK. Both Joe and Alison (and all the musicians) were fantastic. Alison, if you're reading this, I shiver when I hear this version. You are absolutely wonderful. Love, Kingscoop
Hey Allison!!!! I love this song! You did an amazing job! I saw you sing before at the Shania fan convention a couple years ago! Your amazing!!! I hope to see you again in the future! Please Come Back To Ontario!!!!!!!!!!! :) LOVE YOU!!!
found myself watching this again tonight. your vocals are flawless. I had the good fortune to see you on this tour in 2001 in Birmingham in the UK (also saw you at the same venue with Joe in '95 on the 'Night Music' tour). You're a superb performer who I'm sure many of us would like to see more of, take care, Tim (kingscoop (inferior vocalist))
i too think that allison truly owns this song. a true "double-gender-f**" on dale's album version. and no fussing about who really did it. great moving songwriting, and what an outstanding performance. thank you forever, allison!
I can say that I do not have a good understanding of English but this song is very beautiful she is not only the music you like is wonderful. Question? you will get back to playing in The Fabulous Fall show of Shania? Kisses from your fan
Who'd have thought that a song about a transexual hooker could grab your emotions and leave you a gibbering wreck? Brilliant songwriting by JJ, brilliant performance by you. In fact the first time I ever heard this was at a JJ gig in Lyon, France. Night and Day 2 hadn't been released yet. It was the standout moment in an outstanding show. I'll definitely be buying your solo CD. Al the best, Mick
Sounds professionally recorded, but looks like it was recorded on someone’s phone and filled with bizarre dutch angles and bad lighting. So odd… Anyway, Joe/Dale’s delivery on the album is somehow strangely vulnerable, hauntingly pretty and unsettlingly angry and violent/“bitchy” simultaneously, like a drag queen scorned, their woes expressed both slightly shallow/envious ones and valid/heartbreaking ones. In other words, typical Joe Jackson, capturing human complexity (and likely a cathartic song for him, opening up a side of himself he had only hinted at in lyrics previously). Because of this, the album version is the definitive one to me, but Alison’s voice here was note-perfect, her delivery very strong, and I’m certain that this must have been a real show-stopper to see live. Whatever configuration of band he was using, Joe seemed to have a way of making sure that stage was filmed with top talents who all had mutual respect for one another’s abilities (and his perfectionism) and this performance is another example of it. May Alison rest in peace. A very talented woman.
sub·par (sb-pär) adj. 1. Not measuring up to traditional standards of performance, value, or production. And what I meant to say was that this version is of inferior quality in comparison to the album version. And of course I am not talking about Joe Jackson being live which is great but the way Allison Cornell sung the song. It's not actually Allison Cornell fault by the way because this song is meant to be sung by a drag queen/transvestite. Have you heard the original version?

Beautifully sung by drag king Allison Cornell.. Love this song.. Joe Jackson another musical genius!

@@Kalverweide28 Joe Jackson introduced Allison as "our very own drag king",.. not drag queen...

Damn.
@cinqo7
Well, the album version was just sung by Joe using a pitch shifter (under the alias of "Dale deVere"), so was his version also inferior?
Thanks for asking - Where do you recommend I play? I'm open...
nice................

Allison Cornell Your voice! Fantastic!
Though I respect her as an artist I think her way of singing this song is sub par with the original album version.
