In regards to Xbox marketing, I saw a random video on Instagram that was a clip of the South of Midnight trailer with zero context and the caption "uuuugffff *heart*" and it had 1.3 million likes. No mention that it was a videogame. All the comments just loved the vibe. The music, the animation, the aesthetic. One comment mentioned that it's an Xbox game and people were blown away. Many were chaffed that it wasn't on PS5. Many were like "why didn't I hear about this?".
I 1000% agree with Nick in regards to marketing to the mass market. Even if those people don't buy the console, Xbox and these titles still enter the Zeitgeist.
This entire time we all had this idea that Xbox was holding back on their marketing because of the ABK acquisition. But maybe it's simply a nut that they haven't figured out to crack. Marketing is one of those tough things that's hard to do but MS has always struggled. Look at the marketing for Windows Phone and the Zune in contrast to Apple's marketing.

      @Str1derNZ 3 місяці тому

@@daksans6764that is a cooment not supported by facts. They care so much about those things they just purchased ABK. They are just not focusing on console as being the only path to a I've these things.

    • @Str1derNZ
      @Str1derNZ 3 місяці тому

@@daksans6764 focusing on console growth will not grow their market share enough to cover the increased sales they will need to be remain profitable with all the new studios and games they have. Console is only one piece of the future and it won't be the biggest piece.
If you're just looking at console as you indicator for their desire to grow you will be diaaapointed. Look at the brand and diversification and you will see they're very much planning on growing. MS won't allow them not to grow.

Massive respect for Jon for standing by his reporting. Yes, “considered” was the better choice of word with hindsight - but he’s right. If your information has been verified, the job is to report it.

You’re contradicting yourselves & I’m not sure if it’s because you’re defending your article or not.
But you’re firstly defending your article saying it was being considered so it’s more than likely to happen in the future so you felt it was worth reporting on. Well fair enough
But then Jesse brings up that Xbox considered buying Nintendo as example of something that was considered but will never happen.
    So which is it.
The question is was it worth an article if everything is always under consideration & things may never come to fruition.
I’m sure at PlayStation they’ll have at least had conversations about if it was worth putting a PS game on Xbox so can’t that be classed as considering.
The only difference it’s someone leaked the Xbox consideration’s & it was painted that it was all definitely happening. The word planned was wrong as that made it seemed that the decision had already been made and the planned was the release window.
Considering is different considering something that hasn’t been deciding upon

Everyone blaming Jon for how the Xbox community reacted reads like you're the type of person to blow up on the cashier at some retail store when an item is no longer on sale. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT'S NOT ON SALE ANY MORE?!?!"
You should learn how to properly assign blame to things. Everyone in the Xbox community is an adult and how they chose to react to Jon's report was their own decision. If they are still a child, then yeah, we can cut them some slack. Everybody deserves a chance to grow up.
Do you hold this same energy to the people who piled on AFTER the report? What about the people who said day 1 Game Pass was going away? Or that ABK games wouldn't be coming? Do you go after them?
Look, I don't want Starfield to go to PS but at least XboxEra's report was a wake up call to how the community would react if it does.
AND STILL everything Phil Spencer said left the door WIDE OPEN for Starfield and Indy to go to other platforms. All he said was it wasn't apart of the first 4 games that are going. That's corpo speak bro.
We can't rule anything out. Let's talk after Shattered Space comes out and THEN we can start asking Phil questions again

I’m not a conspiratorial person but I wonder if the leaks were strategic, there were so many all at once and the net effect was the announcement of 4 games going to other consoles being met with relief. Could MS have been doom mongering so the reality would sound like a nothing burger?

    • @yofolkdem1256

MS: hey Sony and Nintendo, y'all gone eat y'all cornbread.
My guy Xbox is apart of MS Gaming since 2022, that means that the entire 3 Trillion net worth of MS is directly supporting it and Gamepass. What you saw was the beginning of MS changing the industry, Sony announced 2 days before the Xbox podcast that would be going multiplat(3rd party) "aggressively". The console wars died right in front of our eyes and MS is the 1 that got everybody signing the declaration.

The reason I thought of Microsoft pulling valve is that they’ll have their Xbox platforms just like valve has there platform which is steam while there ip’s go Multiplatform on different devices that’s why I’m just drawing a parallel line between those 2 but hey it’s just me thinking his Microsoft business model is like .

New listener here. Is Nick...always like this? I don't mean to attack him as a person (I'm sure he's a good guy), but his views and takes come across as arrogant and toxic to me. It seems like he enjoys being a "I told you so" contrarian, and that the most important thing to him is just being right, not necessarily adding to the discussion in a positive manner.
Maybe it's just this one episode, maybe it's just me being a sensitive asshole, or maybe this is his vibe and he's working us. I want to support the podcast and the platform, but I can't shake these negative feelings I have from this episode.
edit: Listened to some more stuff, and I think he just got heated on some points. Nick's alright in my book.

As for the console market, not growing, I have been trying to say this.
The Wii and Kinect tricked the industry into thinking casuals would spend money, they dont...
The amount of Wii consoles collecting dust and 3rd parties saying software just didnt sell like the 1st party games proves that core gamers made them money back then.
Now the casuals are technically fortnite, COD and Fifa...
Now, the industry once again reacted to covid poorly and hired too many people who are now suffering.
Let's say 200m gamers on console if you include the GameBoy gamers buying switch.
That number isnt really growing so how will the big 3 sell games to more customers?
    Xbox;
PC ports turned into everything on PC Day 1 and PC exclusives not on Xbox.
    Console exclusives
    Mobile exclusives
Publishing titles are timed console exclusives (Ori, Super Lucky Tales etc)
Now older 1st party titles are going to Sony and Nintendo as a 'trial' to see if they can make money.
Sony is now doing delayed PC ports to reach customers outside PlayStation.
PC day 1 is now happening with service games, with the success of Helldivers II and the statements last week PC day 1 will be a thing by next generation.
They are also forced to release Destiny 2, 3 and Marathon on Xbox and PC day 1 due to the Bungie deal.
MLB the Show is also forced to be on PC and Xbox due to licensing, and it's in Gamepass being a first-party developed title.
Some timed exclusives from 3rd party have come to PC and PC gamepass along with Xbox.
Will they port first-party games to Xbox or Nintendo like Xbox announced this week? I think eventually, yes, starting with service titles day 1 and other smaller titles delayed.
Nintendo... I dont think they will change anytime soon even though we seen mobile games as they had moxed results...
People say PC might be the option for them in a decade or more but they are so protective of the image and PC games are too easily modded so I think if they ever go to another place it will be Xbox due to the good relationship they have with them and they dont have a good relationship with Sony, i dont think anyone does.
But its a long time away if thay happens...
The gaming future should be sharing more games and less being exclusives.
I'd like to see Killer Instinct next, go to all consoles at launch, but possibly have Xbox IP characters exclusive to that platform kimda like Soul Calibur did.

Typical John not owning up to his mistake. At least Nate backtracked on his source and owned up to it. Jez even said you probably got your information wrong on Xbox Two. Now you wanna be that “guy” that holds on to this until one day several years in the future when/if Starfield ever gets ported to PlayStation just so you can say “seee guys I was a righttt??”…..um ok buddy.
You literally said planning to bring Starfield to PlayStation and even gave a timeframe (right after the dlc). Phil not only said theirs no work going on behind the scenes on other games and that this was a test….meaning if it’s not profitable or cost efficient then they probably might scrap the whole thing or move even slower with their ports. You sent the Xbox community into a frenzy and can’t even man up to your mistake. Lost a ton of respect for you dude

Exactly. I also find it funny how Jon essentially said like "they never said they're not planning Starfield for a multiplat release, they only said it's not part of the first four" but yes they did. In addition to saying never say never for a multiplat SF release (which is what should be expected for a CEO; they really can't speak in absolutes), Phil explicitly said in the Verge interview that no other franchises are currently being planned for a multiplatform release. Phil also said during the Xbox podcast that they will release some games on other platforms so long as it doesn't "damage Xbox." Games that are big tentpole releases for Xbox will not come to other platforms anytime soon, if ever, because they'd damage the Xbox brand if ,say, Starfield or Halo came to PS5 or the Switch. Not the case with GAAS and multiplat. That's the key distinction between the whole " Phil saying not every game is gonna go to PC even though they eventually did" fiasco and this.
Will Starfield ever come to PlayStation or Nintendo? Yeah, maybe in 5 years, so then John can say "see guys, I was right!" But probably not.

PS2 is the most overrated console!
Everyone I knew had it modchipped, and Sony was taking games from Sega, and Nintendo made errors.
PS2s were always breaking, and disc drives were terrible.
