    I have both palettes and I’m happy with that as they serve different purposes. She’s in Parties is my smokey purple palette and I love the depth, and Retro is my more everyday, pretty, burgundy palette for when I don’t have time for any fuss. Loved this mash up, thank you! Xx

    Bruised eye look😂 I have the She's in parties stack and it performs MUCH better than the palette!! I love both...but Retro has that burgundy color that I love for the fall... and those cream to powder shades are EVERYTHING☺

    Both palettes produce great looks, they definitely complement each other. We have to remember that for deeper skintones, she’s in parties is a no brainer. I’ll get both when I can. I have Kat Von D Lolita and enjoy that one too - it also has deeper tones than Retro.

    Thanks for the eye- to -eye demo, Alicia. These kinds of videos are always helpful. They cause me to really look & think about my own palettes.
    I like Melt when I want a 1 palette uncomplicated look. Otherwise, like you say, blending can take eons. But, She's in Parties, Blueprint, and Smoke Session have a special place in my heart. I enjoy using them when I can. Unfortunately, I have to be in a certain mood and have a lot of time to use my 27 & Gemini palettes. I still like having them in my collection. I know. It's probably silly to think that way.
    ND is easier, by miles, to apply & blend. I generally prefer ND for single or multi palette looks. I tend to use ND more often than Melt. In comparison, I can just pick up my Retro, Bronze, Love or Sunrise palette any day or time.
    Her 5-pans are especially nice when I'm short on time or to throw in my makeup bag & go. Metropolis & Circo Loco take longer to apply, but my looks are always beautiful. They don't often turn muddy, unlike my experience with most Melt palettes in my collection. It could, just be me though.

    I end up being more attracted to Melt’s color stories (Shés in Parties, Maryjane over Midi Glam) because they go deeper, and I feel they show up better on my olive skintone.

    As one who came of age in the '60s, I believe the Retro shade Opart pays homage to Optical Art -!with a short "O". These were the posters that revealed hidden aspects when stared at and were popular at the time.

    I have She's In Parties and I agree that a little more care has to be taken than with most of Natasha Denona's palettes. I have passed on Retro Midi because I see all the burgundy's and they aren't as flattering on me (I look REALLY sick when I wear that tone lol).
    Having said that, a few of those shades gave me some FOMO 😆 I'm trying not to buy palettes for a couple of shades knowing I won't touch others ☺️

    I have She is in parties and considering the retro palette. I swatched the Natasha one today and the vibes are different. I love the mattes in the melts palette but the shimmers... Not so much. In fact I don't like them, the darker ones have like a deep base with the color and shimmers on top which get lost in a few hours leaving you looking dirty and muddy. Skeleton kiss is pretty as an iner corner highlight and strange love is really sparkley and is a duochrome but the undertone or one of its colors makes it look kinda messy

    I know quite a few people seem to dislike ‘Patty’ but I really like it. As I get older I appreciate those shimmer formulas that aren’t as intense and don’t add texture to my lids. I just wish Retro had a deeper burgundy - I love Groove, but sometimes I want something to darken things up further.

    Ah I love these mash ups. I’m still undecided on the retro and whether i want to pick it up in the sale, however Melt’s Smoke Sessions palette found it’s way on my wishlist and I’m so conflicted because I’ve never tried the brand and they have such polarizing reviews.

      I would say if you are someone who like to just get you makeup done and you want to look pretty then melt is not for you. It is for someone who wants to use makeup as artistry or like me uses makeup as a time for me to relax and do a new look everyday.

    • @anastaciazara1787
      @anastaciazara1787 3 роки тому +7

      Smoke Sessions is pretty. I like it more than Gemini. That being said... it's not a fast palette, so if you're in a hurry, she's not your go to. The trick with Melt mattes is to resist the temptation to apply more than necessary or to blend more than necessary. Over-blending seems to be what causes the patchiness. Once it's blended. Stop. Don't keep swipey-swiping for funsies. For shimmers, use your fingers. Sometimes I use Mac Fix Plus to wet the brush, sometimes not. The shimmers can look chunky and cakey if you go ham with the product on a wet brush. Also, use a thin primer, like UD Primer Potion, and not a thick primer like a concealer.

    • @aliciaarcher
      @aliciaarcher  3 роки тому +7

      I agree with the over blending, and have to catch myself before it turns muddy. Melt shadows I feel need to be lightly tapped on, and need to be flicked out on the edges. If that makes sense 😅

    • @aliciaarcher
      @aliciaarcher  3 роки тому +7

      My personal favs are Twenty Seven and Rust. I think those are solid, and will give you beautiful looks without too much work. The other palettes I agree with Angel M, you need to spend more time with. Not necessarily a bad thing if you have the time, and want to be creative!

    I loved this tutorial and also felt ND Retro was similar to Melt’s She’s in Parties, but I love SIP more because of that grungier look I get from it in comparison to Retro, I feel Retro is too “pristine” for my taste.

    Really loving these mash--ups! Thanks for doing them. I agree 100% that melt shadows are not the easiest to use. However, I have a terrible time with ND's cream to powder. I blame it on that formula being essentially a colored cake of silicon. I never get the balance between blend and the opacity without getting patchiness. Melt's formula can be frustrating in it's own way but it's a straight powder which works out better for me.

      @@aliciaarcher What do you recommend? I love the cream to powders to be honest, they’re my favourite Nd texture, I love a finger smudge with them or a dense brush, almost like a kabuki density with the ND cream to powders. ND's cream to powder and creamy mattes are my favorite formulas. I pat on, then blend out, then pack (and leave it alone) where I want the color to be opaque. For me, doing it this way, it maintains the original blend. Hope that helps.

    I don’t find these palettes to be relatable at all in real life. When I first saw Retro, I thought it was going to be way more purple in tone, which She’s In Parties definitely is, but I found it to be way more pinky maroon. I completely agree with what you said about Melt’s formula, which I don’t mind because I don’t mind the time it takes to work the colors out. I find it to be totally worth it. After seeing the Mary Jane palette swatches on UA-cam and in person, feel that Melt’s shadows are TOO DARN DRY. I’m no professional, but I’m not a neophyte, either. If I were looking for a companion for Glam, I’d pick something that LOOKS creamier.

    you've inspired me to use retro with viseart pro 1...excited! thanks for these retro videos....they are really good.

    I have both, I love the melt mattes in she's in parties but some of the metallic formulas are lacklustre and I would have preferred if some were more opaque, eg 'strange love' would be better if it looked like it did in the pan, but when used it's quite thin and transparent. I love the retro palette but 'patty' is pretty much a dud shade in my opinion.

    Love love love “shes in parties”, colours are much more interesting than ND’s unfortunately

      Although I prefer ND’s color story, SIP is definitely more grunge. Which is why, despite their inconsistencies, I always insist on giving the Melt palettes a chance 😅

    The quality of the Melt palette is superior to the Retro palette, I have both and the Denona powders are ruined after eight hours .... shameful. You are very good and thanks for the video.

    She’s In Parties stack is sooo much better than the palette! That would make a good mashup for more similar shades to Retro.

    I thought you were saying "CHEESE" in parties and now I'm disappointed that there isn't an eyeshadow palette with a cheese theme. LOL
