@@megteg There is an Emperor's New Groove inspired attraction in Tokyo DisneySEA. It may not be based off of the movie itself (the whole park's dedicated to explorers and adventurers from around the world so it's set around someone who found the ruins of an Incan kingdom centuries later) but the architecture of the attraction is greatly inspired by Kuzco's kingdom.

Not sure if it's true, but apparently the whole script was randomly made and wasn't reviewed at all. No one knew what or how the movie is going to be like until it came out in theaters. So it makes sense as to why it's so random and makes no sense at all.

Honestly, what gets me is that Kuzko isn't an adult yet in this movie. He's 17 in this movie and he is basically a spoiled teenager who doesn't know any better. So, when he's finally happy at the end and has genuinely becomes a nice person, he doesn't just gain a friend in Pacha. He gains a family. A father figure to look up to in Pacha. A mother figure in Chicha who was willing to help and protect him from Yzma when they were escaping. Two very rambunctious siblings who he'll probably get into shenanigans with and a small baby sibling who he can help raise and learn to be a big brother with. And I think that's something that everyone needs. A family.

I love this movie. instead of being a story about "look at this good character being in trouble and learning life lessons", this movie is like "yeah the protagonist is a complete dick and you'd almost root for the villain to kill him"
also one MASSIVE positive: many movies are like "he has learnt his lesson and is now a perfect character". this movie actually knows it's characters and is like "he doesn't wanna admid to him being a better person, so he still acts egotistical." and that bridge scene... perfection.

Yep. What makes this movie so genius is it's not a hero's journey: it's a vilain redemption arc! Cause he's NOT just a jerk: he's ready to kill an old man or destroy a whole village of innocent people just for his pleasure or displeasure. It's textbook tyranny, but it's subtle cause it's played for laughs (comedy, so the old man doesn't die, but not thanks to Kuzko!) You'd expect that from Scar, Ursula or Malefic and wouldn't be surprised one bit.
Ah, how shall I do it? Oh, I know. I'll turn him into a flea, a harmless, little flea, and then I'll put that flea in a box, and then I'll put that box inside of another box, and then I'll mail that box to myself, and when it arrives...I'll smash it with a hammer!

I’ve watched several people react to this movie, and I absolutely DIED over how you reacted the exact same as Kronk or Pacha in every situation 🤣😂 Like, you did the *exact same* disgusted face when you saw Eezma with the cucumbers and facemask, and you gasped exactly like Kronk when she said she never like his spinach puffs (I rewatched THAT moment like 7 times), and when she lifted her dress to reveal the dagger you had the exact same reaction like “oh FUCK no, no no no I don’t want to see that” 😂😂😂 this was just splendid.
He gasps *at the same moment* as the Kronks and I had to watch it three times because I was laughing so hard. 😂
And there's a sequel: "Kronk's new groove"

One of those "little" Disney that were great BECAUSE, without the pressure if being "the big Disney of the year", its directors could do things more edgy and out of the box (like Lilo and Stitch).
The fly screaming "help me" is a direct reference to the ORIGINAL 1958 The Fly film. The movie is full of this kind of Easter Eggs.
The cactus that yzma throws her "poisoned drink" into turns into a Llama the next time you see it in that scene 🤣

Izma is voiced by Eartha Kitt who was one of the women to have played Catwoman in Adam West's Batman. I'm not sure if her turning into a fwuffy wittle kitty at the end is a nod to that, but maybe :)

I'm willing to be actual money on that tbh, since there are so many nods to adventure movies, and even horror movies in this film. Like, the fly being eaten in the spider web is almost a direct copy of the original "The Fly" from the 50s. :)

When he said “is he eating broccoli?!?!!?” I died! 😆 I’ve seen this movie many times and never noticed that!
Patrick Warburton, the voice of Kronk, has given me a reason to smile so many times. He even made Netflix A Series of Unfortunate Events (the show) so much more enjoyable by playing the narrator, Lemony Snickett.
1) His new groove started when he started changing. What we see at the beginning is indeed his old groove.
2) I don't get the broccoli hate. Yes, it's best combined with other dishes, but it's not bitter or sour. This bugged me in Inside Out too when Riley was mad at her parents feeding her broccoli.
3) Llamas were a huge part of Incan culture. You can see their symbol everywhere in the movie. And Kuzco turning into a llama is equivalent to Merida (edit: it was her mom actually) turning into a bear, a common animal in Europe.
I remember thinking that broccoli looked good as a kid lol
Broccoli is actually one of the few vegetables I liked as a kid, so I don't really get the hate for it either. 🤷♀️ And as a minor nitpick, it wasn't Merida who turned into a bear in Brave. XP

Back when the movie was originally intended to have a darker tone, Eartha Kitt (Yzma) had a great song, "Snuff Out The Light", which I recommend looking up on UA-cam
I love there in other languages they had different comments for how they beat them with the map, like one that made me laugh was “even the animators don’t know how”

Kronk's New Groove, like most other Disney sequels may not be as great as the first movie, but it is a lot of fun, especially if you like Kronk
There should really be a counter for how many times his reactions matched the people in the movie's.
What's brilliant about this movie is stuff doesn't just happen it's entirely character driven. Every major character affects the plot in some way.
the only disney movie i can think of with SQUIRRELS not just in the background is The Sword In The Stone

And… it’s about… okay, how to say without spoilers, taking into account what I’ve already said… okay well it’s about a Dog who is Not the Nicest Guy and he gets some trouble over his gambling den. The ‘Go to Heaven Bit’ except he’s got unfinished business and if he doesn’t redeem himself, he’s doomed. I think it’s a Don Bluth movie, and it’s not really very kid appropriate but yeah it was a kids movie. Take that how you will lol. The songs aren’t half bad, and the characters are great hehe

As a kid, when I told people I was Peruvian, they had no idea what Peru was. This movie made me feel so seen, and the fact that it still holds up in adulthood means so much. Literally everyone in my family loves this movie. So glad you like it too, Welchy! 😁💕
One thing this movie does really well is show that Kuzcos problems aren't caused by his circumstances, they're caused by things he's done.
The jaguars? They only woke up because he said, "Ha!", to stick it to the squirrel.
Falling through the bridge? He was already all the way across, but he went back to have the last word with Patcha.
Kronk is an absolute DELIGHT and I love him so much. :D
I also love how this movie doesn't just lean on the fourth wall but demolishes it entirely. It is completely bonkers and OWNS it.
This has always seemed like the most "Saturday morning cartoon" animated movie. So many of the gags are right out of Looney Tunes.
My guess to you not liking the movie as a kid might have to do with kuzko being a jerk. In most kids movies the main character is likable, so you not not liking the main character might have triggered some cognitive dissonance because you thought that the mqin character had to be a good person and he wasn’t.
I heard on another reaction channel that hated the Hunchback of notredam as a kid because Quasimodo doesn’t get with Esmeralda, and she felt like that was something that should have happened.

When this movie came out, Disney was still sailing the slow comedy, traditional romance, line. This movie experimented with fast comedy and no romance, which caught a lot of people by surprise. Fast comedy is the current mainstay of most comedy, but it was kinda new back then.

Same with the vegetable hate; I think if we keep pushing this idea that kids hate vegetables, they're going to grow up thinking that they should hate it
It is 71 degrees in Scotland. Now, I live in Alabama. It has been in the 90s all summer so if we get a heatwave, iron will melt and everyone will die. You will never see me complaining about heat, though, because I lived in Germany for 9 years which never got warm so I was basically freezing the whole time.
The emperors new groove was one of my most favorite Disney cartoons, Disney even made a sequel called Kronk’s new groove, Which sequels are never that great but it’s about Kronk and that’s what I like about it!!!!
How about Secondhand Lions? Wonderful movie.
Y'know, I think the humor was just a few years ahead of its time. I saw it when it came out, I was about 10 or 11, I was like, meh. It was okay.
Now? It's my favorite animated comedy! It's fun and goofy, and the humor is delivered snapshot quick. The casting also couldn't be better.
