    A HUGE thank you for this. Had to search find. No other videos described how to properly install the float.

    Thank you! First time with one of these carbs. Would have never figured out that little spring. Rebuilt the carb and it's perfect, no more leaks and has way more power!

    I bought the same kit as you and was disappointed at all the parts that didn't fit. All I really needed was the spring that you explained perfectly on how to install, thanks for posting, helped alot I would have put it in wrong if I didn't watch this ,so thanks again ...cheers..and safe riding..

    Cool. My 76 came with a CV on it, but I'm thinking it's a bit much for what I've got there. I got a hold of a couple of Bendix's and will be trying one of those soon enough. One of them is already apart and submerged in some WD/40 for a while. Looking forward to see how that goes.

    • @crashman1963

      i like the Bendix/Zenith, foolproof, cheap. have had a few bikes but none w a cv

    • @ImminghamIronhead
      @ImminghamIronhead 2 роки тому +1

      I'm replacing a CV40 with the same reasoning; if it was born with a smaller bore carb it'll probably run better. The CV works well, I have to say, but you can't stop messing with these bikes, can you?

    I had the same problem with the Taiwan kit. That spring drove me crazy. In one position it leaks when I parked. In the other it shut off the fuel entirely. During the last iteration, about a half inch of the long leg broke off. Now it is perfect.

  • @ImminghamIronhead
    @ImminghamIronhead 2 роки тому +1

    You're right about those kits; my red washer did fit, but the accelerator was wrong. I soaked it in fuel overnight, expecting it to shrinky-dink into some kind of usable shape, but it did not. The CV40 kits aren't much better; float bowl rubber never fits (pro tip; cut it inside that little o-ring part - it'll fit and seal then). My new mixture screw looked weird too, and the float bowl spring seemed a bit weedy.

      @@crashman1963 Update; the float valve that came with the kit started sticking, so the old one's back in there now.

    7 yrs ago... you still there? I got me a '76 FLH Police Special that has a Zenith on it, cant find anything on adjusting them. I did points, plugs and condenser, oil and filter, but my plugs are still getting sooty instantly. She seams to run fine (better than before the new points) and I'm just putting around my block as its fkng winter here in Michigan. I found a vid on where my air/fuel screw should be from factory ~1.5 turns out? sometimes 1 3/4... but the Main, can't find anything on a factory setting. One of my shovels runs an SU Elim II, the other a Super E, but just new to these old guys. Any advice? links for a free manual? or just a few starting points to try and figure this ole gal out.... Thanx in advance, Happy Belated Holidays, and hope to hear from ya

      ok so you're rich, i usually start 1 1/4 out, your main will have numbers on it, telling youu size. ive been running an su and a s&s for past years a lil rusty on the zenith, you'll have to research what size they like on a fl/ happy holidays and thanks for watching. hope i helped a lil. cheers!

    I have a 74 and rebuilt the carb. It leaks out of the accelerator pump and it pours gas out. I tried the 316 bit to set the float height I'm not sure what to do man I just want to ride her! Helpp

      did you replace the acc pump check valve? is it working? what about your needle valve is that working? if you pull off bowl can you stop fuel by pushing up on needle valve? hard to diagnose when i cant see whats actually happening. good luck

    I have a 74 ironhead with an original bendix carb. It leaks gas out of the accelerator pump I'm not sure how to fix it? I got it to squirt gas but I'm having trouble getting it to run. Itll fire but it wont idle

    • @crashman1963
      @crashman1963  4 роки тому +1

      is it leaking only when you pump or all the time? can you hear the check valve ball rattle when you shake it? Probably should order a good rebuild kit and perform a good thorough cleaning, make sure you dont over tourque your bowl, easy to crack. good luck.

    You forgot one small detail! Lining the notches up in carb body with the 4 holes at the bottom of the main jet. This is very important.

      make sure the float bowl isnt cracked. that happens if overtightened and very easy to do. also make sure inlet needle isnt stuck in open position and coming out the overflow.
