Here are some frequently asked questions about this setup. If you have any others feel free to ask here, we reply as soon as we can: Q: How much pressure do the pumps make? A: Out of the box, we’ve seen the pumps generate 900-1000 psi, however there is a jam nut and adjustment screw on the pump housing, we’ve found that 1.5-2 turns will return 12-1300psi of output pressure. Some data logs on Pro Drift cars have shown as much as 1500psi. Q: How much current do the pumps draw, and how should they be wired A: Testing has shown that the pumps can draw 70-80 amps when under maximum load, as such the wiring will need to be robust, we usually recommend the use of a high current relay, or manually resettable circuit breaker that is accessible from the drivers location. Q: Do I need to use the smaller wires and connector for anything? A: No. Toyota used them to control the pump via an external ecu dedicated solely to power steering, all that is required for the pump to work is the heavy gauge power and ground connections. Q: How much noise does the system make? A: The pumps are not overly loud, but certainly there is a noticeable amount of noise coming from them. We recommend isolating the mounting bracket from the chassis if noise is a concern, and keeping the pump out of the vehicle cabin to keep noise and vibration levels to a minimum. Q: Can I rotate the inlet fitting to suit my chosen location better? A: NO. If you rotate the large inlet fitting, it will leak and you will not be able to make it stop. Consider yourself warned. We’ve tried it, other people have tried it, it doesn’t work.
Could this be used as an on-demand system for rear steering on a rock crawler buggy.....basically.....the pump to a manifold that directs fluid to an 8 or 10 inch steoke 2.5 diameter housing with 1.25 diameter shaft ram....
i bought a used one of these pumps and the mounts are 8mm and 6mm, maybe the originals came with smaller fittings but new ones are bigger? might've been breaking original mounts who knows. thanks for the video helped me figure out what i need.
Hey have you figured out how to use the VSS signal coming from the pump? I know there is like a PS ECU and PS Driver but am unsure of which wires are needed for the PS ecu
Hi, would this work with a vw transporter t5 hydraulic steering rack ? I’ve done an engine swap and I let the original pump go with the engine, new engine comes from an electric powered steering car, would be great if this would solve my issue
Just bought this kit and set it up. Was also curious about the adjustment screw on the top. Guess I need to play with it to figure it out. Wish this pump worked a little more as it seems to struggle. Installed it on a 1998 Honda Prelude. Also, what fluid do you recommend? I put in Amsoil 100% Synthetic Multi Vehicle Power Steering Fluid it shows a part number for the Toyota Electronic fluid so hope it is good.
@@MAMotorsports i could gather that for you from TRP website,i been working on creating a mount on fusion360 to attach a brushless motor to the pump using a voltage regulator for RPM adjust it
It would be nice if they could be used as direct replacement pump for the junk BMW Mini Cooper R53 and R50 electric pump that fails and causes fires . Looks like it's smaller and would need hose and wiring adapters to connect to the existing system and maybe have to drill the mounting plate . Your system is a lot less money then the stock pump . I've just ordered a delete kit for mine because new pumps are around $1500 Canadian and remans are $700 . I'm going to leave all the original parts in place incase the delete ruins the feel .
They are not quiet. Id say it depends on what you think is loud, how it is mounted (isolated or not) and what the application is (race cars this sound goes just about unnoticed).

enough flow rate to handle cylinder assist steering for off-road use in Jeeps or buggies?
Ordered this a couple weeks ago, Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the order Rob. Let us know if you have any more questions.
Very nice and informative video. Wicked kit.. definitely be on future builds. 👍
Thanks!
Very nice. I'm wondering how these work for off-road use with cylinder assist steering and 40 inch tires?
Dang! This is sick! I bought a Chase Bays kit for my R33 but if I have any pump/belt issues I’m using this setup!
Its a great options for a lot of builds. Let us know if we can help yah with anything.

No idea on that one. It’s a hydraulic pump so it sounds like it would do what you need it to do.
How much would you say these weigh?
Will they work on a ford hydraboost application

We have not personally but i know clients of ours have made it work on various applications.

Hi. I can't say for sure it will work but people use these on all types of steering racks and steering boxes.
could you explain more about the adjustment screw on the pump?

@@LeeNolan-e5n, any luck with the pump struggling?
nice gonna do something like this for the VR30 in the frontier
We actually sold one of these kits to a VR30 powered Frontier build!
Dai / Eneos.
@@atypicalmisanthrope Yep.
great video would this work for a porsche 964 C2?
Thank you. As far as I know it would. I used to have a c2 turbo myself and I don’t recall the PS system being very untraditional.
Is this available for 6 volt .my 1940 cad.is 6 volt.
Can I just buy the bracket only ?
Yes they are on the website as well. Comes with hardware. You can buy all of the components separately including the outlet fitting.
Hmmm, I wonder if I can make this work on my 2011 Subaru Forester.
could this pump be intalled on a Semi truck?i have a TRP pump on a Caterpillar C15
sadly I have no idea the demands of a semi truck steering system.

Yes, I’m sure it depends on the box but we have had many clients use these on cars/ trucks with steering boxes.
Are these loud?

@@MAMotorsports
Totally understandable. Probably couldnt hear anything over the sounds of multiple large fuel pumps and then a big exhaust haha
@@Gjonesy96 your normal belt driven pump is probably just as loud, you just never hear it with the engine off
Off road, samurai will it be good.
we do have clients using them for off-road use. can't say what applications though.
Could this be used on 2007 silverado
