I'll also help you build a template of your own in my course trackinaday.com
Starting a song from scratch can be tough. But I have a solution to the overwhelm. Start with a great template of sounds and inspiring sample packs. It is worth taking the time to setup your own template and find sounds that inspire you if you want to stop overthinking and start creating.

The best production course out there!! Thank you Forest! Cameo by the little guy was great, just shows your down to earth personality, and what a good Dad you are 👍
Ahhh the “Organic Everything” from Paul Mabury and Dustin Burnett. A classic 🎉🎉
These videos are such a help to me. The tracks inspire melodies right away. Love it! I have your sample pack and they are fantastic. Have even added a couple loops of my own. Look forward to the next batch. All the best.
Glad you dig the pack adding more minor chords to it soon!
Just bought your samples from your website, one simple madolin I added some piano and track is sounding so cool now

Awesome!
I am brand new to recording and I think this is the best video I have seen that shows how to use samples to build a track. I also got a lot out of seeing how you through in some Kontact instruments. Thank you.

This is such a great video. Not too long and straight to the point. New subscriber here!!

Love that. I had never thought of taking a melodic riff then adding chords underneath! Excited to try that!
Love your work, man! Really cool that you left the part in with your son.

Thank you gotta start it out good!
Great video bro! interesting to see a bit of your process!
Almost reminds me of the Goo Goo Dolls, one of my favorite bands.
Cool video with very useful advice.
Definitely going to try your Loops.
Sweet to include the Father/Son interaction warms the heart!
Seriously, the most important part of your day is now building a fort. I promise that little man will appreciate your time vs money in the future. I wish I could hit rewind with my girls back to the age of your son.
Great template ideas, thanks. I've never thought of having transition elements floating around like that.
Sure makes things move faster.
the advantages of these sample packs and vst plugins are they're so clean and well recorded.
Super inspiring video! Thanks :)
You make something that sounds so great look so easy. So inspiring. And, I'm glad you didn't edit your boy out of the video. That was THE BEST part! Way to be a cool dad!
Great stuff Forest. And your boy is so lovely. Keep building.
Thanks for watching will do!
Hi Forest. Thanks for sharing this with us. Always great to see someone else’s process. Very inspiring. I can see how when you are doing collabs with others having something to get ideas flowing is soooo handy. Straight away for me the melody invoked the following words…
Five am
On an open road
Black top wet
And the cold wind blowin’
The sun is rising on another day
Heading home
Keep them coming please 🙏
Dig this. Thanks for the comment.
Just started the pop/country logic pro beginner course and the 7-day songwriting course and my mind is blown ALREADY after day one!!
So glad I found your stuff. 🙏
You're an awesome human Forest...thanks for sharing your killer expertise...Cheers..!
I appreciate you watching man!
Hope buddy got that fort! Nice tune.
Awesome track❤
Thanks a ton for these videos...Love from India🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Just wrote a song yesterday that I was wanting to put tracks down for and this is literally the exact same groove and chord progression haha
Let's Build a Fortress - there's your song title right there, courtesy of your little man.
that was great
Glad you enjoyed it!
What great video! I have the melodic pack and can't even half way start do that! with them! The cherry on the top is your child coming in and you didn't edit out! Build that fort!
Keep working with the pack! It will help you out tons when you get the hang of it.
The forecast in your area is 78 degrees, partly cloudy with a 60 percent chance of scattered showers.
Dude! Perfect timing! Im in Saint Louis writing a bunch of pop country and im about to head down to Nashville next month and co-write with a country artist that is a bit more "organic" so I can strip away the Nate Smith heavy parts and keep the acoustic parts flowing if thats the vibe. Appreciate you brother!
Just downloaded the samples and the 7 multi-tracks. Not sure if you have this yet but I'd love to have some piano midi if you got em.
I have always struggled with this but now I just start with a very basic drum loop play all my instruments in to that track, then come back and play the drums properly at the end :)
Yes, keep the creativity going.
@@forestwhitehead thank you. You are very inspiring!
Hope you made that fort with your son , these are the things he will remember his entire life .
Just bought! Was looking for these! You are right, they are missing on splice.
Enjoy them man! I’ll be updating the pack soon.
@@forestwhitehead hopefully i get noticed somehow
@@forestwhiteheadby the way where is that "bass drop"-sample from?
I made it by sliding down the neck of a bass guitar then reversing the sample. Email me Ill send it over.@@BEHNKEMUSIC
Love this. I watched a similar video of yours a couple years back. I'm still a "write on guitar and then demo" guy, but I think I need to work more of what you're doing into my workflow. I have 100+ iPhone music memos and it's challenging to get those whipped into songs. The last full record I wrote I demoed in my office one song a day over half of my lunch break. Sent 'em to the band, we rehearsed once and laid basic tracks in a day. I can't work anywhere near that fast by myself in a studio. I have dozens of half-finished songs in my folders.
Country songwriting sessions are usually at least 2-3 people with one handling lyrics and everybody brings in demos, right? It's been almost 30 years since I wrote with anyone else other than working out arrangements with a band. If you're ever interested there are links to my music on my channel page.
I find your videos so inspiring... Fair play best I've found.... Keep them coming..... Do you sell the sample pack?
Made me think of 'Matt Wertz - Carolina'. Keep it up!
I’ll check that out.
Those Tony Roystar drums sound great here. Do you remember which kit/ preset you used for this? I wonder if the guys at Native Instruments/ session guitarist will ever release a virtual resonator instrument for pop/country producers.
Surely they will. They seem a bit behind in that realm of instruments
@@forestwhitehead They did just release the Ukulele a couple of months ago, so the resonator can't be too far away ;-)
Hey @forestwhitehead, thanks for the great content, and the acoustic bundle. I bought it when you first released it, and it has been invaluable for jumpstarting tracks. One of my favourite tracks I put together includes the ones you used in this video. There are a few of the samples I wish I could figure how you played them. I'm thinking you may have used a capo on some of them. Cheers!
May have been a drop tuning on some of those which makes it hard to figure out. Glad you are using them and enjoying them. Im working on creating more this month.
@@forestwhitehead The one I'm referring to sounds like a D shape capoed at the 5th fret. This is the title of the loop - "80bpm_G_Stereo Acoustic Riff_MCS"
Great video! Appreciate all you give to us. May I ask what keyboard you’re using? Thanks again!
This is the KOMPLETE keyboard but very overkill for what you really need my favorite is Alesis 61 key basic midi keyboard for $99
Great Video Forest.
Did you ever do a video about the structure of a contract for selling a song to someone?
Your son is so cute!
Man awesome content! I bought your sample packs,..great quality! I just have a beginner question,..as I’ve never used loops. When you are using say one of the acoustic guitar riffs,..is there a way to change keys/chords when the song needs to? I’m in Logic btw.
Hey man Waves Soundshifter is a great tool for this. Check out this video. ua-cam.com/video/TiisawG9BHc/v-deo.html
What piano is this? The content is amazing
Please build a simple Studio One guitar vocal template for singer songwriters at your new Studio One Lab channel!!!!
7:17 the best tip for successful producers 😊🎉❤
Hey Forest, I just found this and it’s great! Something I’ve been looking for as a songwriter. I’m wondering where or how you are getting those sample sounds in? Are they third party apps? If so do you have a reference on where to find them? Like the drums, guitar, mandolin etc. Thanks
Great video Forest ! I’m a complete wannabe song writer do you recommend any low cost sample packs to get me going. I tend to use the sample in garage band.
Thanks
Scott
can u help me to write a country song please
Awesome content Forest!! Interested in the sample pack offer you have at the moment. Question: does your term 'no reselling or distributing' mean I could not produce stems/multitrackouts for publisher's needs? Or would they need mangling like if using any melodic sample? Love your content and happy new year 🙏
You can you use them royalty free. But if you try to resell my sample or make a plugin around them and sell that then I’m coming after you. Lol
🤣🤣🤣🥰@@forestwhitehead . Absolutely wouldn't dream of what you mentioned haha. Guessing that was an 'okay to stem' if required. For clarity, working with exclusive publishers for TV/Film etc
Another great video. Love these! ...Just got Session Strummed Acoustic. Can't figure out how to gt it to just play 1 strum of chords. Diamonds. Is there a way?
There are so many different options there it can be overwhelming. I think there are strums but most are picking patterns which are useful also.
can u do a video on how to simply write melodies with keyboard i was in prison 8 years i been writing but i can only kinda play uke what would u recomend for starting keyboard i just need a starting point
Hey Forest, which mixwave library would you recommend for start: Thomas Pridgen or Tony Royster Jr. The price difference is not much, but I’d like to get one for now. Thanks!
Piano is a good skill to have if you are trying to make songs in a daw I guess
What midi keys are you using ? is that keyscape too?
Have you tried Waves Cosmos? It scans all your samples on your computer and makes you find them easily. It knows what kind of a sample it is, so which instrument and which key etc.
I’ll check this out.
...Forest what happened? why are you gone? no more videos?😪
So does your co write come to you? And is a group of just an artist?
May I know how these sample waves wont clip?
Needs a B3
We need you back Forest. Do I need to give you a call and get you moving again?
Don't leave us hanging. How did the fort turn out?
Oh it was wreck in the living room this evening.
@@forestwhitehead Good times I see 😁
1:27 I know exactly what song and video that's from lol
Man I hit a wall with recording a few months back, but after watching this I feel like I'm finally able to get back into it and make something again. I appreciate you!!
