    Mulberry is very heavy and holds alot of moisture at first, the yellow will turn brown when it dries. Love that 37D!!

    The 37D is a beast! Running those giant knotty rounds through the box wedge like there's nothing to it!

      It definitely is a beast...but I think having fewer wedges also helps when using the 5 way compared to 7 way box wedge.

    As you know by now mulberry splits very well. It's at the top end of good fire. It also holds up good in the weather. If I could find enough it's all I would burnwould

Mulberry does Snap, alot therefore it best to use it in your outside Boiler. I am cutting up somemore Locust today. Great News also getting about 10 Red Oak Logs Shortly my Friend. Did you have that box wedge as low as it could go? I’ve got a 22-28 on order with the box wedge and I’m trying to determine how small of pieces it can make if the wedge is as low as possible or if I should change it to a pizza wedge. Thanks.

    • @Back40Firewood
      @Back40Firewood  10 місяців тому

      I didn't have it all the way down. If you are looking for smaller splits the pizza wedge would be the way to go. You can run with the wedge all the way down, however it is not engaged with the lifting mechanism so it will push up when wood is pushed through. You have to run with it raised up a couple inches from the bottom so it is locked in....if that make sense.

    • @FirewoodJim
      @FirewoodJim 10 місяців тому

      7 way can make 1.5x4s or so with the wedge down. It's pretty consistent. He's right the wedge will move if too far down. Either way it's no set it and forget it with the wedge. Naturally, going through knots and slanted pieces, the wedge moves, so you get a mix of 1.5x4 - 5x5s You get a ton of kindling wood and a mix of 2x2 or so wood. Hope that helps.

      I'm not familiar with Osage Orange, does it grow this far up north here in west central Wisconsin?

    • @localcrew
      @localcrew 10 місяців тому +1

      @@Back40Firewood Yes. It’s spread everywhere. It originally grew only in a small area of Oklahoma, I think. It’s in the “Audubon Guide to Eastern Trees”. Look on the ground for those big, softball-sized green spheres. That’s the dead giveaway for Osage Orange. As is the bright yellow sawdust. Keep an eye on the split firewood. It will gradually turn dark brown. I’m still thinking it’s Osage Orange.

    I don't believe that's Mulberry I have 4 or5 on my property in the last 50 years they are still 15 16 inches in diameter and the largest I've ever seen about 22 inches. I'd guess either Osage Orange or Black Locust
