I'm in the forge of life, shaping my mettle working
With pressure and heat, crafting this metal working //
Flirted with wisdom and Peace, yep, I met her working
Now im first place, putting that medal work in//
Melting the surface, to break barriers forging
Striking flaws to mold n shape my performance//
But I'm still weak, welding (well then) bonded by my fate
To, never put myself in a place to cut corners//
Foundation of self, like anvils you can't press
Buttons on me, I'm too grounded to stand mess//
See how I lay still, blessed by the hands, guess
Who will define what temper ment, in man's head//
I'm black Smithing, the hood knows the art is street (artistry)
Paint balling, the team good, I'm starting, see C //
The heel in (healing) each step, I know starts with me
To cool all The stress in my whole heart for peace//

"Humans Being" isn't on Balance, but rather is on the soundtrack for the movie "Twister." Cheers
Respect the Wind, too.
There is a bonus track that was added to the album's Japanese release called Crossing Over.
They mixed Ed's drum demo track into the left channel.
The song was written in 1983, after a close friend of Eddie's committed suicide. Ed played everything on the demo, and was likely shelved because it went against the band's party image. So it was later repurposed after the passing of Ed Leffler, the band's manager.
Ok, Mugs, before you dive into VH3, you should check out the band Extreme's first 3 albums for a little bit of context because the shift in songwriting is, well, drastic. You'll see.
thats a must listen
You should watch the video for “Not Enough” performance on the “David Letterman Show.”
so awesome to hear and see this album through fresh ears and eyes that don't have an agenda against either singer of the band...great job
So glad you’re doing these!
Correct album sequence:
Seventh Seal
Can’t Stop Loving You
Don’t Tell Me
Amsterdam
Big Fat Money
Strung Out
Not Enough
Aftershock
Doin’ Time
Baluchiterium
Take Me Back (Deja Vu)
Feelin’
Many people requested Humans Being in the chat. Also someone did a paid request for it!
You missed Aftershock
@@sweetwilliam5150ha! You are correct
@@vermontmoocowah gotcha. I missed that
For some reason, the first time I heard Baluchitherium, it reminded me so much of the live version of Joe Satriani's Hordes of Locusts from '88. I don't think Eddie knew of the song, but there is still a definite similarity. It all goes back to just groovin on a simple 7th to One bass line and same tempo. Joe's Locusts is a little darker, but Eddie's is probably better in the end. If you like Balcuherium look for Satriani's Hordes live version on youtube
Would LOVE to see Mugs review some Joe Satriani!
Ed borrowed the main riff (with permission!) from Trevor Rabin's song, Eyes of Love. It's amazing how two artists hear something different from listening to the same thing.
Definitely has the Satriani influence
My Favorite Halen Album. BALANCE
My least fave of hagar era....too 90s serious sound ....not upbeat parry rock
Great VH recording. Thank you for the play through.
I'm 44yrs old now. This is when I started to get into Van Halen. I was about 15 when this album came out. Then I went back and looked up their older albums. Wasn't too keen on DLR but did like him singing Running With The Devil and Dance The Night Away. Most of my fave songs are in the Sammy era. Also like his solo stuff before and after Van Halen
Thx Mugs! Another VH review well done sir!!
"Hey Ray, what you said is true" (in I Can't Stop Loving You) refers to Ray Charles, IIRC
In my opinion, feelin is the last track. It almost seems like it sums up Eddie's struggles with addictions.
I agree completely agree with your age assessment.
U r right on.
Rest in piece Eddie.
Amsterdam might just very well be my favorite Sammy era VH song. That riff is so crunchy. I also think Take Me Back and Aftershock are two very underrated songs
a rather hit or miss album for some people. I like it. deja vu is my personal underrated song here.
Mug, thanks so much for this walk down memory lane over the last couple of months!
Are you planning on doing full album reax for DLR? I think it would be pretty cool for just the first 3 records - Eat em and Smile, Skyscraper, and A Little Ain't Enough.
Crazy from the heat was a very unique album. That one is short enough to be in a single stream with EEAS. I'd say that one too!
"Dad rock." HAHAHA!
True! I'm now 51 (50) years old!
Great reaction. This is the first time I’m hearing most of this album also. Huge DLR era Van Halen fan. Although you need to respect the amount of talent, this didn’t age well. For example the cannabis references in Amsterdam were taboo at the time. A lot of people went to jail in the 90’s because of cannabis.
1995 Toronto concert, you can see a lot of this done live.
Humans Being solo is supposed to sound like a tornado. That whooping sweeping sound. The movie it's from is about tornado chasers.
Hey @mugify reacts you forgot to play the last song on the album. "Feelin'". IMO has the best Eddie Solo since VH I @ the 3:00 mark.
UA-cam clapped the stream I gotta post it as a single video!
Thanks man. Looking fwd to it!
You should watch Valen live in Arnhem Holland 1995. Thay play songs from Balance I believe before it came out. Awesome performance.
Hey mugs, you should start indexing each track and put it in your description. I don't always want to watch the whole video, just your reaction on certain songs. Kindly
One subscriber used to do that but she hasnt in a while..
Favorite album with Sammy. They definitely found that balance.
Good choice it's my favorite also
There is an MTV video for “Don’t Tell Me What Love Can Do.”
When "A different kind of truth" now that it is streaming again?
I dig it
Alex taking influence from Daney lol I’m the one is full of them from 1978
I love this album but the band was in toirmial by this time. Sammy said Eddie hated everything he wrote and had to write the songs 2 or 3 times to get anything done
You should listen to early Black Sabbath albums from the beginning to end.
That stuff is incredible.
And listen to Zakk Wyld do
1. Acoustic Mississippi Queen
2. ua-cam.com/video/bMJl3omqWPw/v-deo.htmlsi=RASnwJSIcwfIc8Aq
you forgot feelin'!!!!
Great Vibe #rappin
Mugs...you cool
Best VH Record
Tool took lessons from Alex . He was doing this from the seventys
I never really was a big Sammy fan with Van Halen but he killed it with this album. This is the album that should’ve came after 1984.
VH was really putting out substandard generic fare by this album. Living on reputation mostly by then and a bit before too.
This album is terrible.
Mugnify thinks Eddie looks like Vanilla Ice Halen in that video? Haaahaha
The only thing about you're blog ... is you pause the music and talk too much!
this is the beginning of the mediocre at best albums unfortunately. The first 2 David Lee Roth solo albums are fire though
Agreed
They were pretty much done by this point and it showed. The marriage was over. You could sense it onstage, too. The fun vibe was not there as in the past. It felt more business-like. Come out, play the songs, smile and wave. It wasn't a shock that they split a year later.
I think u should listen again with high quality head phones not ear bugs.
Much respect.
I find it a little disrespectful to hate on what Sammy said was one of the most beautiful songs he ever wrote. Which was not enough!
