when you're scanning reflective items, like glass, you can use painters tape or specialty sprays to temporarily make a matte finish to get a better scan.
Theres an athletes foot spray from CVS that people love, havent had a chance to use it yet, but stuff i dont care about i just use a matte white spray paint, works great.
This scanner is super awesome. It fits like a glove with my t1 pro, and the print quality of the models is unbelievably good. Plus, the printing speed is super fast. I'm totally blown away
You can use that ABS resin in the place of body filler. It's a lot easier and a lot less mess and sanding. Plus, since you just cure it with the UV light, you kind of have unlimited work time compared to body filler plus it's a lot stronger. I've also used it in the place of glue. You just put a layer on with a brush and let gravity kind of do the work and then hit it with the light and repeat. Then when you're ready you can sand it. To me it's a lot easier to sand than the body filler. You can actually just let it cure a little bit before sanding to help out. Then finish it off with some more light. I use this method to fill layer lines as I don't sand anything first. I put the resin on and then sand. I hope this helps! You actually helped me decide on a 3D scanner.... Creality for the win!
The fact that you are able to use new and emerging technology to reproduce your own car parts sets you aside as a UA-cam channel for not just the present but also the future.✌️✌️🇰🇪🇰🇪

@adoksym He said sometime back that he kinda likes the thrill of working on his SEMA builds the last minute... but then again, there's the actual working on the project and uploading the content for us viewers✌️🇰🇪
@justinmilla You and I are neither car rebuilders nor UA-camrs I suppose, if I were you I'd avoid comparing the content creators....each has their way of doing things.
I just wanna say that I appreciate the hard work and dedication that you guys put into your builds. I know you guys have a small team and you guys work really really hard. I will continue to enjoy your videos that you put out regardless of timeline. I know it was a push to get these out as soon as possible with Sema already going. My hat’s off to you BIFB!
Dude this is a UA-cam channel. This is where he makes his money. He is not gonna sit here for 3 months posting the same build over and over and over. It’s called content he has to make it dramatic for people to be entertained. He could do this whole build 3 months in advance and “it would take too long”

Hey Chris @BisforBuild .... Be sure to use furniture polish instead of Windex. Windex has an abrasive in it and end time will scratch the living s*** out of plexiglass and make it hazy. A light spray of furniture polish will keep them looking brand new for years to come.
Next time you have to scan something shiny, use scan spray. I work in the dental industry and we use scan spray all the time. You can use something as cheap as dr.schols foot spray, but it's annoying to clean. Alternatively you can spend a bit more money and get a vanishing scan spray which is what we like to use. It evaporates in about 30 min. Also, I must say watching this series I had major doubts. I thought there was no way you could finish, and was thinking it wouldn't look that good. I wanted to wait and see what you could do and wow, nice work! That car looks insane! Keep killing it!
I'm really surprised with the people who comment negatively about this great job....I do agree with you that Chris has his own plus and minus...and u r right to like it or dislike it...but rather than commenting negatively u show us what u can do......
Got to see this thing in person and met you briefly. Awesome to see all the behind the scenes of what goes into this. Been watching for years and will continue to do so, don’t stop!
Great job as always. Any reason why you didn’t just get a bigger resin printer and print the whole thing with resin? It would save you all that work filling, gluing and sanding.
Fellow Murci owner here... If you want to print the main headlight body in resin, I have a couple large resin printers to help you with. Gloop is possibly a better adhesive for filament than gorilla glue since it melts/welds the filament together. Also a 3D scanning tip, for odd shapes you need markers on, buy a cheap net and hot glue the 3d markers to the net. Place the net over the object, scan it, shift the net, scan again, then process the scans together removing the net lines created which will be filled in by the additional scan. Great work on the light!
still blows my mind after all this time you still draw in Max, I used to do that way back when because it's what i knew from school, but once i switched to Vectorworks and Fusion, it was life changing for making real things that had to exist in the real world. Max is great for free form stuff but proper CAD makes things way quicker and more accurate.
Flipping incredible work. The engineering of these headlights impressed me beyond belief. I'd love to see you restore a car like this to OEM without a stressful deadline.
Yiu should start working on the build for next year as soon as sema ends this year. Even if its slow it’s a whole year. It’ll be a lot cleaner and less stress on you, please consider it
Much of this project i've not really gelled with, however I persisted to see the techniques you've used that I can draw inspiration from and duplicate myself. Then today, you post the headlight project - and boy have you hit that out of the park!!! Really well done, very well executed and glad you showed commonly used techniques being applied well. I really hope you get plenty of miles on the car once sema is complete. Final point - please give yourself just a little more time in future, you make phenomenal projects. Time will only make you more satisfied with everything you build, and you build great stuff. Thankyou for sharing what you build.
For scanning, literally GYM chalk mixed with water and loaded into makeup battery powered spray gun, it's like $18 on Amazon. When it dries , it turns into perfect white matte surface.. I scan and design all my gear for videography) saved me thousands and thousands , plus have some unique fancy gear no one else can get😅.
Very impressive and interesting to watch this. For a car like this, and the price of genuine articles, all of these techniques that you can now apply at home really pay off.
Snapping necks at sema is hard enough, but impressing on the details is just next level. Ever think bifb is more advanced than 80s Lamborghini Spa.? I do. Absolutely killing it.
Love the prototyping techniques 👍 I can recommend primer filler (aerosol spray) for layer lines on FDM 3D prints. It needs less sanding because body filler applies thicker therefore more sanding back. The resin prints should be in a high heat resin (otherwise they warp) and they must be painted to seal the print from moisture in the air otherwise they go 'rubbery'
I thought that boat sunk again for a second 😂😂😂 years ago i bought my first 3d printer because of you, and now i think i will buy my first 3d scanner because of you. Thank you for showing the whole process.
Love to see your work towards SEMA, it's starting to be a tradition... like watching chess between Christmas and New Year's Eve. Good luck, it's going to be a awesome build!
For future reference... when you try to scan smooth surfaces as the bulbs. Use some white spray. There is a spray that is similar to the coal spray you use as a sanding indicator.
Absolutely awesome design! Turned out f***ing great! The light design in general is really unique and will be a huge SEMA head-turner. Love it. But still, your timeline is giving me anxiety. 😂 crossing my fingers. You can do it.
I was questioning the entire build, but after these last few episodes i will say that I'm thoroughly surprised with how it turned out 😅. Still cant wait to see the burntacan and the single seater out and about, those 2 were some of my favorite builds by far and honorable mention was the jumpacan 😅😅😅
Pretty cool use of reasonably attainable 3D printing technology. Interesting note on using resin on parts exposed to higher temp. Really nice job considering your schedule and the starting from a single, somewhat busted headlight.
Hey Chris, you can save some time on body filler if you paint the parts with the uv resin and cure it with a UV lamp. Also works as an excellent glue for clear parts.
Some people cover parts in baby powder so the scanner can get a nicer surface to register. SuperfastMatt approved! In any case once you have the rough shape and 3D dimensions, I think that will give you all the room to go crazy and build something unique.
Put masking tape over the bulbs, or any glass, when doing laser scans, then you can capture that area with the scanner. Also, look into a special glue called "Gloop". They have a formula for ASA/ABS. It chemically welds the plastic together, as well much quicker than what I watched. lol Lights came out beautifully! Great job!

Designed and printed. Some parts he made.

Me too.
Same!
You and me both
if your having trouble scanning reflective surfaces in future spraying them with chalk dust works really well.
FYI - you can use 3D scan spray (looks like a light white dust) which makes scans 10x better and wipes off when done
Wow I’ve never seen so much work go into such a small and usually overlooked part. The finished product looks amazing
