    .25-06, the original 6.5mm meme moar. I knew an old timer that was a landing craft crewman in the Pacific in WWII that LOVED .25-06, and man was he a great shooter. Good vid, thanks for posting dude.

    My Remington BDL was my first Rifle in 25/06 . I had the barrel floated and crowned . I hand loaded mine with 115 gr. Nosler’s with 51grains of H4831 . I have taken 13 Mulies and 14 Pronghorns with this Rifle and load . I zero mine in at 200 yards . And regularly shoot under 1 inch groups . You can’t ask for more than that and the success I have had with this Combo . I wouldn’t even consider anything else !

      I keep a 200 yard zero on mine as well. I like how flat it shoots that way, only 35" or so of drop at 500 yards.

    I own 3 25-06 all different brands. They all love Federal 117 gr Gamekings. I seem not to be able to find them here in the last year or so. I hope Federal did not quit making them. I love the round immensely. But then again I love them all. Never had good luck with the Hornady American thru them at all though, good to see you did.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics

      Well Sierra should at least still make the bullet even if Federal quit loading them. I might have to try them one day...

    Picked up a 25-06 early this year. Have been wanting one for a while as that was what I hunted with in my teens many years ago . Grandads gun. Remington long range in a heavy laminated stock . 24 inch barrel with a small brake on it. Very heavy gun . Shot 4 diff rounds to see what it likes . Hornaday white tail came in just under an inch , precision hunter was under half inch pretty much hole in hole. . The same for Barnes vortex and the same for hornaday super. Has pretty much became my most accurate rifle . Pretty sure with a better trigger it will hold under an inch at 200 yards . Love this caliber.

    25/06 is a good old chambering. Great deer, antelope round. I do know a few folk who have used it for elk successfully. Very versatile. Good groups with both Hornady. Thank you.

      Wanting to try 90gr bullets but these results seem to indicate my rifle likes the heavier ones.

    Just finished building a 25.06 on a Howa 1500 action/barrel. I think I will try out that American Whitetail load you found did so well. That same load works well in my 243 with near 1/2 Moa groups as well. Thanks again.

    Ppu has worked excellent in some rifles and not great in others, I have a 7mm rem mag that will touch bulletholes. It's frustrating finding the right loads, it can get pricey if you want the most accuracy

    I have a Ruger m77 25-06. It really likes the Winchester 120gr PEP .25 inch or less groups @100yrds. I also have a hand loaded Sierra 90gr bthp load that groups the same.

    My 25-06 is a Ruger Hawkeye. Shot that particular Remington load about as well. Federal Premium 115 gr. Nosler Partition you would need a dinner plate to cover. Federal Premium 117 gr Sierra Game King load was very nearly one hole. Took up reloading just to be able to try to reproduce the Game King load as Federal quit making it, but then those went unavailable from Federal and Sierra both. Going to see how the 120 gr. Speer Boat Tail and 100 gr. Speer Hot Cor do next.

      Seems .25-06 is a picky caliber then. What is your barrel twist rate? Mine is 1:10

    • @P245Sig
      @P245Sig 11 місяців тому

      @@BuckeyeBallistics Don't know if I would say picky. Partition isn't notorious for accuracy anyway and it was a heavy for caliber one. 10 twist in mine.

    Nice rifle and good ammo test for it. I have a 25-06 on a Mauser action. It shoots pretty really well, but I either need to reload for it or find some factory ammo that it likes. It just has an old 4x Weaver scope on it. I need to do some upgrades to that rifle and take it out for a spin.

      Thanks for stopping by. The .25-06 is a fun cartridge...

  • @frankbrowning328
    @frankbrowning328 Рік тому +3

    The 25-06 is a fantastic cartridge. I don't know why it hasn't been more popular . However, today 6.5mm is what so many want that people forget that .257 (25 Cal) and .264 (6.5mm) are only 0.007'' apart. Some people are now adding faster twist rate barrels to their 25-06 rifles as the 1/10'' rate limits the length of the bullet mostly to a 120 gr bullet. The 25-06 really beinifits from a 1/8'' or 1/7'' twist to allow bullets over 120gr or VLD bullets to properly stabilize. These long bullets allow the cartridge to really shine at long range as they lose less velocity due to the aerodynamics (high balistic coefficient) of the bullet

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  Рік тому +2

      Might be able to make a 1500 yard gun then, especially with hand loads. Factory loads for the .25-06, especially the Precision Hunter ELD-X, match or outperform most factory loaded 6.5 Creedmore inside of 1000 yards.

    • @frankbrowning328
      @frankbrowning328 Рік тому +2

      @@BuckeyeBallistics Absolutely. The 25-06 has a tremendous untapped potential that for some reason is only now unfolding. Varmints can be vaporized at long range and game up to and including elk can be cleanly taken at reasonable ranges, all with a cartridge with recoil very close to that of a hot loaded 243. And its far easier on barrels than some of the extreme 6.5mm rounds like the 26 Nosler

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  Рік тому +2

      I really want a .243- have my eye on one currently.

    • @frankbrowning328
      @frankbrowning328 Рік тому +2

      @@BuckeyeBallistics They're generally very accurate as well and the recoil is even a little less. The big BUT is that the 25-06 will do everything better with the exception of the lightest projectiles. 1 other thing is that most often 243 ammo is easier to find

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  Рік тому +1

      Correct on all accounts. I remember shooting my grandpas .243 when I was 16-17, and I was blown away by how light the recoil was for what the rifle is capable of...

    Most 2506s shoot this well…and a Savage in a decent stock shoot this well…I still own 9 guns in 2506…they all shoot like this…may the Coopers do slightly better…
