The other day I saw a Sikh on the bus in London, well... now I know why he was carrying a dagger and I thought that's strange because it's forbidden to carry any type of a weapon like knife etc. in the UK. Maybe it wasn't sharpened. Thank you Mr. Bald for your educational videos. Cheers!

Sikhs are wonderful people. I have a few friends that are Sikh. They treat women with respect and are kind and honest. Just don’t treat them unfairly or piss them off for any reason. This culture is honor based.... There is a reason the British army actively recruited them during their conquest of India, WWI and WWII. For example during WWI, the Sikh regiments carried swords in addition to their battle rifle and used the swords quite effectively when overrunning German trenches. Great video. Thank you for posting.
Qazi Nur Muhammed - A MEMBER OF THE ENEMY ARMY (TO SIKHS), PLEASE READ WHAT HE HAD TO SAY ABOUT US. written around 1747 to 1769. “Do not call the dogs (the Sikhs) dogs, because they are lions (and) are courageous like lions in the battlefield. How can a hero, who roars like a lion be called a dog? (Moreover) like lions they spread terror in the field of battle. If you wish to learn the art of war, come face to face with them in the battlefield. They will demonstrate it (art of war) to you in such a way that one and all will shower praise on them. If you wish to learn the science of war, O swordsman, learn from them. They advance at the enemy boldly and come back safely after action. Understand, Singh is their title, a form of address for them. It is not justice to call them dogs; if you do not know Hindustani language, then understand that the word ‘Singh’ means a lion.”Truly, they are lion in battle, and at times of peace, they surpass “Hatim” (in generosity ). When they take the Indian sword in their hands they traverse the country from Hind to Sind. None can stand against them in battle, howsoever strong he may be. When they handle the spear, they shatter the ranks of the enemy. When they raise the heads of their spears towards the sky, they would pierce even through the Caucasus (in the process). When they adjust the strings of the bows, place in them the enemy killing arrows (and) pull the strings to their ears, the body of the enemy begins to shiver with fear. When their battle axes fall upon the armour of their oppontents, their armour becomes their coffin. “The body of every one of them is like a piece of rock and in physical grandeur everyone of them is more than fifty men. It is said that Behram Gore killed wild asses and lions. But if he were to come face to face with them even he would bow before them (Singhs). Besides usual arms, they take their guns in hand (and) come into the field of action jumping (and) roaring like lions and raise slogans. They tear asunder the chests of many and shed blood of several (of their enemy) in the dust. You say that musket is a weapon of ancient times, it appears to be a creation of these dogs rather than Socrates. Who else than these (dogs) can be adept in the use of muskets. They do not bother (even if) there are innumerable muskets. To the right and the left, in front and towards the back, they go on operating hundreds of muskets angrily and regularly.” If you do not believe in what I say, you may enquire of the brave swordsmen who would tell you more than myself and would praise them for their fighting. This bears witness to (my statement) that they faced thirty thousand heroes in the battlefield. If their armies take to flight, it is a war tactics of theirs. They resort to this deception in order to make the angry army grow bold and run in their pursuit. When they find them separated from the main body and away from help and reinforcement, they at once turn back and fight more ferociously (literal translation - they set fire even to water). “Did you not see that while fighting the Pathans, they took to flight which was deceptive. A world famous wrestler wielding high esteem and respect alight-ed from his horse and showed his great style as if he were Tuhmatan ( a great warrior of Iran). O valiant fighter, do justice to their (act of ) war. One of their armies invaded Multan and put the city to plunder and devastation and killed many of its inhabitants and carried away an immense booty. I am not sufficiently strong in mind to express what the dogs did there. But as God willed it, each of us has to submit to His Will.” Besides their fighting, listen to one more thing in which they excell all other warriors. They never kill a coward who is running away from the battlefield. They do not rob a woman of her wealth or ornaments whether she is rich or a servant (“Kaneez”). There is no adultry among these dogs, nor are they mischieveous people. A woman, whether young or old, they call a “Burhi”. The word Burhi, means in Indian language, an old lady. There is no thief amongst these dogs, nor is there amongst them any mean people. They do not keep company with adulters and house thiefs though all their acts may not be commendable.”

I visited the Golden Temple and it was a very nice experience. I had an injured foot at the time, with stiches right through the bottom. A random Sikh man saw me hobbling down the road with a makeshift crutch on the way to the Temple and he gave me a lift on his motorbike. Then when I was in the temple I sat down with all the pilgrims for a free lunch. And then afterwards I even visited the temple doctors, who took a look at my foot and removed the stitches for me. All in the all the Sikh people were very good to me!!

Hi Mr Bald! Love from Canada! I am a Sikh myself and been waiting for this video for so long. I just finished watching this video and want to share a few things and probably a few corrections as well- So there is two type of Sikhs, probably you can say due to modernisation which means people don't want to follow strict religious rules. The 1st one are baptised Sikhs (they could be easily recognised having a long uncut beard, wearing turbans and carrying a dagger with them. 2nd one are unbaptised Sikhs. I will highlight the main differences and the five K's that a Sikh wears- 1. Kesh (Hair)- Baptised Sikhs are not allowed to cut hair from any part of their bodies at all. Because hair is natural which means it is a God's gift. That is why Sikhs wear turban mainly to protect their long cut hair. Also, the turban is a sign of respect or a Sikh so never even in-joke make fun of a Sikh's turban or try to remove it from their head. On the other hand, an Unbaptised Sikh may or may not wear a Turban, and most of them usually do not let their hair or beard grow that long. 2. Kangha (Comb) - All baptised Sikhs have to carry a Comb with them which symbolizes that we respect God's gift of hair by keeping them neat and tidy with the comb at all times. On the other hand, an Unbaptised Sikh may not carry a comb because they do not need one. 3. Kirpan (Dagger)- Only Baptised Sikhs are allowed to carry a dagger with them all the times, Unbaptised Sikhs aren't allowed and shouldn't carry Dagger with them. As a Sikh, you are never allowed to use your dagger first even in a combat. We are only allowed it to use if required in case of protecting someone or protecting the religion in the hour of emergency. 4. Kashera (Undergarment)- It is actually an undergarment wore by baptised Sikhs mostly. It represents our simplicity as an individual. 5. Kara (Bracelet)- It is usually made out of steel but the modern-day version is made out of other precious metals as well. Unbaptised Sikhs can wear Kara made out of any metal but the baptised Sikhs should only wear one made out of Steel. It was used as a weapon in ancient time during hand to hand combat. It also represents that there is no end to the power of God as there is no starting and end point in Kara. Also, it is not a compulsion to bring offerings when you enter the Golden Temple. Baptised Sikhs are pure vegetarian and they do not drink alcohol or smoke Tobacco. Some of the Unbaptised Sikhs are non-vegetarians but they do not eat halal meat, most of them also drink Alchohol. Let me know if you have any further questions. :)
Of all the religions to come out of India the Sikh people and their religion is by far the best. The Sikh people are hard working honourable people. My Grandfather fought alongside Sikh soldiers in world war 2 and he said they were a brave & proud people!
Solomon SOLOMON JRE dreaming idiot. Most Hindus of Punjab converted to Islam lol. While Hindus were getting slaughtered by Mughals and afghans the Sikhs were winning battles. Sikh Empire controlled from Tibet to Sindh. From Kyber Pass to Nepal.

Great Tour Mr. Bald! and thank you for taking the time to share. I've been longing to see a proper tour of the Golden Temple and see more of Amritsar. Many people In the U.S. and Europe seem to know very little about Sikhism and the role Sikhs and Indians, in general, played in fighting and even volunteering to fight for England and the allies during both world wars, and to help liberate France and much of the world, twice. Having some Sikh friends in the U.S. I've been impressed by patriotic and supportive most Sikh Immigrants are to the U.S. and those I know who have also resided in England seem to respect and even love England for the principals and civility that set England apart from much of the world. They also seem to deplore the degree to which radicalism and lawlessness have pervaded across Europe and in the U.S. Some things I've observed about Sikhs and Sikhism are that for the most part, Sikhs have a fair amount of tolerance and respect for other religious beliefs and democracy. I've heard that some Sikh leaders have even been accused of teaching Christianity because of preaching similarities to Christianity and occasionally in opposition to Islam and Hinduism. I've noticed that while mainline Sikhs seem to be tolerant and even respectful of Christianity and opposed to Islamic political regimes, there also seem to be some Sikh sects who hold a fair degree of animosity towards not only Muslims but Christians too, but that seems to be the exception. Some Historical references in case anyone is interested. www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/A_World_War_I_Saga:_When_Sikhs_saved_French_honour en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Army_during_World_War_I www.sikhnet.com/news/legendary-8th-army-italy www.thebetterindia.com/54801/6-indian-soldiers-martyred-british-indian-army-ww2/ www.britannica.com/event/Massacre-of-Amritsar
I can say same things about Christians, Muslims, hindus, jews and every other religion that exist on face of this earth.... SIKHISM NEVER teaches animosity against any religion nor it promotes hatred... BUT, one thing which Sikhs do follow sincerely is to oppose every kind of oppression, inquality and discrimination that exist in front of them....
@ChichaWatniFarmer ChakNo170/9L Thank you for your comment and for providing the opportunity to clarify my original commentary. And firstly can you please re-consider my original observations as prefaced and in the context which I will clarify below and help me to understand why you interpreted what I said as hateful, as that was not my intent and might help reveal if I misspoke or it was misunderstood? To clarify my observations: I did firstly point out the degree to which I observed how tolerant I have found Sikhs and the religion as administered to be, and the lack of understanding and appreciation Sikhs in the U.S. and Europe often encounter. What I related was intended to provide a personal perspective and inspire people who are not familiar with Sikhs and Sikhism to become acquainted and consider the great sacrifices Sikhs and Indians have made throughout history as friends and allies of Europeans and Americans and grant them the understanding and respect they deserve. I did not say Sikhs were against Muslims or Christians. What I said was that there were 'Some Sects' who seem hold a fair degree of 'animosity" and that it was the exception. In the U.S. and Europe, radical and evil elements are trying to radicalize not only Muslims but Sikhs, Hindus and Christians. I related that in brief as to point out the differences between radical individuals or sects and most Sikhs and Sikhism, because in the past when I encounter Americans and Europeans (Christians, Muslims and Hindus) who express animosity resentment or even ignorantly equate Siks with radicals and terrorists, I go out of my way to explain something of Sikh and Indian history and beliefs and to the degree to most Sikh immigrants in the U.S. Europe very much aspire to be friends and allies, and who share and aspire to the same beliefs and virtues we should all aspire to and respect. That said, I have had some instances where after I attempt to edify the suspicious and resentful, where they respond accounts of perceived animosity towards Christians Muslims by individuals who to happen to be Sikh or actions by radical sects claiming allegiance to Sikhism. I wanted to make mention of that and point out the difference which I hope is clarified here. In no way was I intending to preach hate and I thought I made that adequately clear. I have quite a lot of respect and love for my Sikh friends and Sikhism as practised in general. I always enjoy being invited to a local Sikh temple for the fellowship and goodwill as Mr. Bald so kindly showed, and I encourage those who would be interested in experiencing such hospitality and good faith to go with an open heart and smile to make contact with a Local Sikh temple and say you just saw a wonderful video of the Golden Temple and would like to be friends. I think you will find that once you reveal yourself to be sincere you will be rewarded with friendship and enlightenment. And on a final note, While Sikhs do seem to be one of the more welcoming and tolerant religions, as a non-Sikh and non-Indian I do on rare occasion experience (from some people) within the Sikh community a sense of suspicion, and perhaps some personal dis-ease, and occasionally my closest Sikh friends relate to me some degree of personal resentment towards Muslims, Christians and Hindus, which I can appreciate may stem from the unjust persecution and oppression they have suffered as a noble faith and community they experience to a very great degree, and perhaps a bit of human nature as well. I do however, always appreciate it when they do express such feelings, as it provides the opportunity for us as friends to explore and understand our own personal shortcomings and prejudices and grow personally and as friends and a community. Just as the teaching of Guru Nanak and many other spiritual leaders have done from times before Jesus to after Gandhi have selflessly tried to impart to us. I sense in his own entertaining, unabashed an occasionally irreverent way what Mr. Bald feels compelled to share and why I and many of my Indian friends also appreciate and enjoy about his videos. I know this very long, but it's only a portion of what I would like others to discover and share and expresses only a portion of the respect and admiration I have for my Sikh friends and the community in general. BTW: I lived in Malaysia, and spent time in the Middle-East, and Predominately Muslims areas of India, and I am just as quick to point out the differences between radical sects and ignorance on the part of radicals and those who wrongly lump the ignorant, evil and radical in with all Muslims and Islam as a faith and I believe it best that we should all use this medium as an opportunity to practice broaden our understanding of others and ourselves and practice, patience, moderation and friendship to others when the opportunity arises. Thanks, for listening.
@@unknownhuman7919 Very much what I observe, and I think we all need to be aware of the prejudice and resentment exists as a part of human nature, in ourselves despite outward appearances and affiliations.

Dear India,
You have a beautiful country. A beautiful culture. Why can’t you keep it as clean as this temple?
Apparently, this is because there are too much people living there.

Interesting fact: Sikh's are allowed to carry Kirpan (dagger/sword) on domestic flights within India
Really ?? I did not know that
The other day I saw a Sikh on the bus in London, well... now I know why he was carrying a dagger and I thought that's strange because it's forbidden to carry any type of a weapon like knife etc. in the UK. Maybe it wasn't sharpened. Thank you Mr. Bald for your educational videos. Cheers!
@@healingjourneyearth in the uk, sikhs are legally allowed to carry kirpans. As it is a sword of faith and is used as protection. Actually any religion can carry religious knives/swords and other items if recognized as religious by the uk gov

To the right and the left, in front and towards the back, they go on operating hundreds of muskets angrily and regularly.”
If you do not believe in what I say, you may enquire of the brave swordsmen who would tell you more than myself and would praise them for their fighting.
But as God willed it, each of us has to submit to His Will.”
Besides their fighting, listen to one more thing in which they excell all other warriors.
Ramandeep Grewal
Thank you very much for that bit of history. It is all still true to this day. Honor is something that our American politicians need to aspire. Sadly, It is a trait that seems to be lost on most of our modern World.

Kesh - keep your hair
Kanga- keep a wooden comb
Kara - the steel bangle
Kirpan - the dagger
Kashera - wearing baggy pants

I am sikh and i am from england too, i saw your video and the way you speak and pronouns the word are absolutely amazing and thnx and god bless you man..
Hi Mr Bald! Love from Canada!
I am a Sikh myself and been waiting for this video for so long. I just finished watching this video and want to share a few things and probably a few corrections as well-
So there is two type of Sikhs, probably you can say due to modernisation which means people don't want to follow strict religious rules. The 1st one are baptised Sikhs (they could be easily recognised having a long uncut beard, wearing turbans and carrying a dagger with them. 2nd one are unbaptised Sikhs. I will highlight the main differences and the five K's that a Sikh wears-

I like this, I’ve learned a lot and how beautiful this religion is.
Some Historical references in case anyone is interested.

you cannot be a true sikh if you dont repect other religions, thats what i've learned in 20+ years of my life as an indian.
