I think the reason for Dokkaan’s transformations being shorter than the previous ones (aside from saving time bc the cast is so big lol) is that magic becomes less relevant in the girls’ lives. Overtime as you’re watching the show you notice that they begin to use magic less and less for everyday things, such as helping their family and classmates. This is a big theme in the show since the girls initially think that becoming witches will help solve their personal problems, but then grow to solve them using their own intuition and kindness. Its really sweet! Im glad you made a video on this show, it’s one of my faves and I hope you get to watch it soon. It’s funny, wholesome, and heartbreaking at times. The main cast is also very memorable!
I still feel like the transition from the original to Sharp is the best example of this. The girls through all their trails and tribulations finally graduate from In-Training Witchlings to Apprentice Witches but willinging give up their magic for the sake of others and when the Witch Queen finds out that they did this without hesitation she rewards them with new powers (granted they are back to Witchling level status but Apprentice level power) but they've started to understand that they don't need magic to make the world better and start using magic less.
I think it's mostly because there's 7 characters (Doremi, Hazuki, Aiko, Onpu, Momoko, Hana and Pop) so it'd take too long if they had transformations as long as the first few ones.
Well since you have now covered Doremi, one of Toei Animation’s big magical girl franchises, you should cover Toei’s biggest magical girl franchise, Precure. Precure recently had its 20th anniversary last year. (Well 20th season. It’s actually 20th anniversary is this year, but Toei celebrated last year.)
4:20 The fact that you ranked pop transformation over her sister is so funny to me, doremi tends to get insecure when she compares her self to pop cuz she view pop as smart and talented than her, i bet she'll be HEARTBROKEN if she sees this
the reason everyone surronds Hannah in her transformation is because not only is she technically the princess of witches but also their adoptive daughter (normally a baby they found in a flower if i remember correctly) that turned herself the same age as them. which leads to her still calling Doremi mama
If you’re looking for an easy way to watch without piracy, I would recommend watching it on daily motion. Not all the episodes are there but there are enough to fully appreciate the series.
@@aiuwapi their might be of the old dub if you want to watch it in English (although it is extremely censored and only covers the first season) and there are probably some of the og but they won’t be subbed and will probably be quite high in price
Pops and Doremi's relationship is really cute, it's adorable to see how much they care about eachother while also getting on eachothers nerves all the time. I always enjoed the episodes that focus on their dynamic and show how good of a older sister Doremi is.
Daw, no mention of the Royal Patraine transformation? It's simple but really pretty. Oh no, you don't have to pirate it! There is no legal streaming for sure, but we offer a pretty easy and safe way to watch it ^^ (and no ads!) Subs only anyway, the 4Kids dub is infamous for changing practically everything about the series. And it only dubbed the first season.
@@frogfireFantasy Well first thing they did was to assign the name Doremi, to the magic shop, instead of the main character. They've cut out a lot of chara development, reduced them to one basic and exagerated trait, erased all text including the english ones, put comical SFX over emotional scenes... Anyways you can search for ojamajo moe to watch the sub (and a bunch of dubs too). This is the 4th time I try to reply lol
@@frogfireFantasy ok I've tried to reply 5 times yesterday, YT keeps deleting them. Basically 4Kids changed everything in the series for the worst. Doremi is now the shop, not the main character. Everyone has their characters reduced to one simple trait. A ton of scenes, both random and explaining the plot, have been removed. They've put a sing-along segment to replace the removed scenes, with a miscolored transformation device. The list is very long.
Fun fact: Hana-chan doesnt need a transformation sequence but still chooses to do so to be like her mama doremi and her friends- Hana-chan is the next witch queen lol- basically she is a princess who is already powerful enough like the witch queen
Now this is not a spoiler but I wanted to let you know that not every time Hana transforms she needs the other's help. The girl meerly charge up her compact with a set ammount of energy Hana can then use freely untill she runs out.
Personally I don't see the point in not pirating a show that you CAN'T watch legally in anyway. Regardless if you watch it or not you still won't support the creators, not because you don't want to but because you CAN'T. Since it's the 25 year anniversary, I'm holding out hope it might get released on a streaming service to celebrate that. Or get some sort of remake! :)
@@thejudgmentalcritter6584 As much as it would be AWSOME I just think it's not gona happen. Doremi it's 200 episodes + 10ish, with today's attention span no network it's gona want that. As for the remake option I also don't think it's gona happen. Much of the heart of Doremi it's in seeing the girl's everyday life as they grow alongside all the people around them. You can't remake Doremi without reamaking almost every episode, and there is also no real need to do so when the OG series has aged like wine. The second reason why Doremi is not getting a remake it's because that animated short that was recently realised, it's not just a celebrative short, it's a proof of concept for a sequel. If you notice the logo has 1620s at the end, that's because after the original series ended a series of light novels by the name Ojamajo Doremi 16s/17s/18s/19s/20s was realised. Hearing how much you like Pop’s transformation warmed my heart! She’s my fav character not only in Doremi, but overall, she deserves better! Sharp is my fav season so I love your opinion on the last one! I think there’s a manga if you want that, but there’s no legal way to watch it I think
Doremi is a favorite of mine, and this video made me realize how much of the girls’ personalities are captured in the transformation sequences. There’s no legal way to watch it but all the episodes and movies (except for Heartwarming which is incomplete & the anniversary movie) are on Facebook under Doremi Episodes.
I grew up watching the 4kids version and I remember loving it. The theme song would get in my head all the time (say what you will about 4kids, but they knew how to make a catchy theme song). I remember wanting one of those marble wands so bad. I’m sure I’ll dive into the actual series one day, but I just wanted to thank you for the trip down memory lane (and getting the song stuck in my head again XD)
You HAVE to watch the show because the story treats its audience maturely. The series starts when the girls are 10 years old until they are 12. Their classmates get fleshed out thoroughly and there is at least 20 side characters and it delved into real issues like divorce, racism, difficulties of parenting… just life in general. There is a reason why people are still fans of the franchise to this day. Plus, it boasts 200 episodes like Sailor Moon, so it definitely was a powerhouse in its own right! Wish it can get a rerelease so more people can enjoy it :(
Gosh. Instantly dropped everything and clicked this as fast as I could. Dunno what it is about DoReMi but both this video and the franchise makes me super giddy in a way I can't describe. For a while when I was younger I was obsessed with it, especially the transformation sequences. That was about 10 years ago... ...And yes. I did the little rhythmic clapping transformation things when I was alone on the playground. I probably looked ridiculous. (Kinda embarrassing to admit actually) If anything I think DoReMi makes me feel so giddy because it reminds me of the excitement and well... magic that I wanted to see more from shows, all whilst carrying its own wonderful charm. I could barely catch shows like Winx Club, W.I.T.C.H, The Powerpuff Girls or even tbe season of Pretty Cure that rarely aired on TV. I only got to watch the whole first season subbed on UA-cam years ago but not Sharp, Motto, Dokkan, (etc.). I should probably make an attempt to watch them now that I have some time. But it's the kind of thing that I loved about Magical Girl shows. Getting to see girls with interesting designs, magical powers and awesome transformation sequences doing magical/cool/fun things. We certainly have more of these nowadays and its been a genre for a long time now but it was so rare to me back then that I'd hang onto it whenever I could.
For the record, "Ojamajo" is pronounced like its spelled; with hard Js. The way you pronounced it, "oja-maho" would translate roughly to "bothersome magic" instead of the intended "bothersome witch." Still kinda works, though.
Aboiút Hana: Kinda. Hana is the princess of the witch realm and technically the adopted daughter of the kids who they took care of in season 2. Eseentially witches get born from flowers in the witch realm and a witch baby gets adopted by the first witch that holds them, in this case Doremi, Ojami Doremi has *a lot* of fun lore with the witch realm and they utilize that in many fun ways. Hana is a great example, she essentially aged herself up so she could go to school with the girls for a while.
This was so fun and as always I love your in-depth dissections. It'd be AWESOME to get more breakdown lists like this. Other magical girl designs I'd love for you to look over include Shugo Chara! and Tokyo Mew Mew.
The amount of times kid me(Maybe even adult me) clacked something on my head mimicing the Sharp transformation... Im surprised i didnt get a concussion.
Aw yeah my favorite magical girl transformations of all time! I was that kiddo doing the little Motto transformation dance :) Yeah unfortunately this show did pretty bad in the states (the 2nd half of the season 1 dub was only streamed on 4kids' own website, couldn't even get air time). Piracy is the only way to go for this one I'm afraid in the US (as is common for many kids programming), unless Toei sees the financial incentive to relicense it anytime soon. The 25 year anni video wasn't even initally visible outside of Japan until they saw enough buzz on Twitter. And that's factoring in the greater success it had in Europe and Asia. (From a purely English accessibility standpoint at least the whole series hardsubbed by fans? Though that's another reflection of the era this show came from lol). Am impressed by some of your insights for the characters given your lack of familiarity with the show (re:Hana). Also also as someone else mentioned you missed out on the Royal Patraine (don't ask me how it's pronounced) outfits! Those really highlight the floral theme of the Sharp season (tho there's not as much character flair in them).
Love that he did this and you’re completely right transformations are the first thing people see, but I will say in regards to the first set of transformations their profile say a lot about their characters for example Aiko is to the side over the shoulder, she was kind of to her self at the beginning of the series, while hazuki is more to the side showing her more reserved and shy manor while doremi and pop are naturally curious and direct. Some seasons onpu winks signifying her idol training while momoko winks or has fun being more spunky and head strong. Doremi does the most at first because she always loved witches and is ecstatic that she gets to be one . Loved this video. Also, it’s so funny you said that about Dokkan. I do enjoy the season. I disliked how short the transformations were when I was younger now I think they were trying to really focus more attention on Hana which was nice (I won’t spoil) but it’s a fun watch. I always wish the characters had more transformations but at the same time I think really is the slice of life story telling that makes me enjoy the show and the characters And it’s funny I never even realized half of these things until you brought them up, but even like the Patissier outfits I think Momo was more confident because she was the one who really taught them how to bake
I did not have the toys so I improvised with objects around my house or existing toys. Cue little me absolutely bonking myself with a toy wand in the head, so a witch hat would appear 😂
You did a pretty good job in ranking the transformation despite haven't been able to watch the show. The shame of not being able to watch overseas is too bad. It's a bit late but Happy 25th Anniversary Ojamajo Doremi!
its too bad you didnt got to see the show. it was one of my childhood cartoons, and going back to it as an adult was absolutely wonderful seeing how amazingly it had aged, and how super mature it is in conjunction with how the magic fantasy aspect of it is used. the only real complain i really have is the clear merchandise aspect of the transformations, everything else is really amazing. i also lucked out because the italian dub and soundtrack is super good, while the english one is not card captor sakura level of awful but still not that good. i will say, the real good reused animation for magic stuff in the series isnt really the transformation tho, its the magical stage animation for each season. i really suggest you look it up! the music and the animation, especially the italian and japanese ones are really really good.
Did you get the whole series in Italy? I watched the German version and we only got the first 2 seasons. Btw we also had the original songs but with translated lyrics. They even redid the insert songs, not just the openings and endings. Did they change some of the names in your version too?
@@danitabori the whole thing, yeah. The only changes on the top of my head are just some of the main character names, and the voiced songs, which are to me even better than the og ones lol
@@DrawciaGleam02 I was actually referring to how narratively it is used. As other comments mention, the show ultimately is about the girls using magic to resolve a situation, consequently usually either not working or turning the situation for the worse, until finding out a way to solve it through human means, with the eventual decision for all of them to give up magic at the end of every season to be a normal human through heroic sacrifice. It also in turn comes into play with how magic and witches are explored deeply in certain episodes, going uncomfortably deep into how becoming a witch means becoming immortal and having to leave everything of their normal human lives behind, outliving everyone they may love in the process, sorta soft psychological eldritch horror style
Ojamajo doremi is my favorite anime of all time. Momoko is my favorite and I’m so glad you gave this series attention. Unfortunately, I only know the fan subs versions. The show has blue ray discs of the first seasons but only the digital version has English subtitles. Sad to say, piracy’s the only way to watch it. I remember watching it that way and loved it. Outside Japan it is very unknown from what I found. I really recommend giving it a shot but if you’re that put out about piracy, I understand.
2:19 Oh gosh, don't call me out like this. I loved Magical DoReMi back when it was airing on 4Kids, and I distinctly remember trying to put on my shirts in a similar manner to how the girls put on their dresses. Popping my head out of the collar, and throwing my arms out of the sleeves one at a time. It was silly, but also fun. I love these transformation ranking videos. I've been a complete sucker for a good magical girl transformation for as long as I can remember. From the simple yet charming transformations of Ojamajo DoReMi, to the complex and highly stylized ones from Madoka Magica, and everything in between. There's so much to appreciate and enjoy about magical girl transformations. From the eye candy of the transformation itself and how it's animated. To providing an earworm with the music that's playing along to it. As well as the fact transformations can be a great way to convey a characters personality through their body language and the outfits. Great video, and I'm looking forward to the next one. P.S. As a diehard Pretty Cure fan, I would love to see you rank transformations from that series, too. However, that's also a pretty big ask, since we're talking about a 20 year-old series with 80+ transformations. There's a lot to look at, but there's also a whole ton worth checking out.
It would be interesting to see someone getting to know this series. I could only find one YT-er who talks about every episode but I think he already saw the series in the past so it's not the same. If a show is not available legally, then I don't think it's a big problem to watch it in other ways. It would be great if Crunchyroll had it. I'd love to watch it again but this time legally. I don't think that any YT-er will do a reaction to this series because it's so massive and not a lot of people like magical girl anime and it's hard explaining to someone that this is one of the better ones overall. I always liked that this show actually shortened or sometimes even skipped the transformations. It showed that they didn't have to rely on a time waister for every episode. I forgot about the anniversary video. I still don't get what the purpose of that was. It kinda seemed like they announced an adaptation of the books where the girls are older. That's what I would whish. I tried to read fan translations but it's not the same without the voices and the music. This anime is overall really well made. Btw I've watched it in German and there they don't say their names at the end of the transformations, but a completely new chant or something. Maybe you can look it up with Doremi Verwandlungen (that's the German word for transformations). Btw I don't know if you left this out for a reason or didn't know about it but there was another transformation in Sharp, where they get mostly white dresses, the animations and poses are pretty cute as well. I actually had a Mandela effect with this show. I've watched it as a child and I remembered a joke that Doremi's magic spell was always more complicated than the others' and she had trouble remembering it. But when I rewatched the series a couple of years ago that never happened. It also wasn't just added to the German version because I checked that out too and nothing like that happened either. :D Do you want to know the explanation for Hana-chan? If not then skip the rest, so I guess spoilers: Hana is an actual whitch (not a human like the others learning to be a whitch). She is actually the next queen of the witch world. During S2 (Sharp) Doremi and the others have to take care of Hana (who is a baby at this time) for one year. Then in S4 (Dokkaan) Hana wants to be more with her "mommy's" and she becomes a teenager like the others (I'm not sure if she does it herself or Doremi and the others also help). That's why Hana is so different to the others (outfit, item for transformation and the way she transforms).
OMG!!! Magical girl may! Idk if you take requests but would you be up to reacting to: "yuki yuna is a hero" ? I'm not sure if you'd enjoy it, but yeah!
I remember watching Doremi on 4KidsTV as a kid and it still has a special place in my heart. I would do the little dances, draw the characters, and it started a life long love of magical girls for me. But almost as soon as 4KidsTv went under, all legal ways to watch the series all but disappeared. Glad to see the 25th anniversary video tho
I do wonder if you would be interested in League of Legends Star Guardians lore in a future Magical Girl May video. (Playing the game is not required.)
I really don't like how lazy the costumes for 16-20 are, they're just recreations of the originals with slight alterations, why not create new designs? Something more like what an adult witch would wear, and why not finally give them the full-fledged witch jumpsuit at the very end?
Sorry to inform you but there are no legal ways to watch the show. Sad but true. To see it all with great subs, you have to sail to the seven seas of the internet. It sucks I know, but when its between not watching it at all or becoming internet pirate to see it all, I personally chose the latter
People have the tendency to like the 2nd transformation more than rest Look at enchantix which i consider the 2nd transformation (because i think charmix is just a power up) with how favourited it is amongst the winx fans
I think it's because usually the story is initially planned out to the point where they would get a second transformation so it's usually meant to be the final/ultimate form and then oops the show is too popular and we need more seasons and outfits to keep audience interest.
Since I watched Sharp first and not the OG (because of Hana, who was originally a baby during Sharp and Motto*SPOILERS*), I thought Onpu was introduced in Sharp.
The dolls I own at least did not have reversible dresses-the Sweet Friends line had separate dolls for the Ojamajo and Pâtissière versions Thanks for making the video! I really hope you change your stance and are able to find a site to watch the series because I just don’t think anything is going to get licensed 😢
For real And then if you want to support the big corporative with money buy some official merch They make bank fron making life sized paperuton batons and transform compacts, and they're really cute Anime fans nowadays got no guts

The voice actress who voices pikachu also voices Hana!
That's cool! :D
This was so fun and as always I love your in-depth dissections. It'd be AWESOME to get more breakdown lists like this. Other magical girl designs I'd love for you to look over include Shugo Chara! and Tokyo Mew Mew.
Big yes on Shugo Chara 😊
I love this show. Watching it as a kid was difficult but I'm proud to say i saw it all. Your intro made me subscribe.
The amount of times kid me(Maybe even adult me) clacked something on my head mimicing the Sharp transformation... Im surprised i didnt get a concussion.
Aw yeah my favorite magical girl transformations of all time! I was that kiddo doing the little Motto transformation dance :)
Yeah unfortunately this show did pretty bad in the states (the 2nd half of the season 1 dub was only streamed on 4kids' own website, couldn't even get air time).
If you cant legally watch it then piracy is completely justified.
I always wish the characters had more transformations but at the same time I think really is the slice of life story telling that makes me enjoy the show and the characters
And it’s funny I never even realized half of these things until you brought them up, but even like the Patissier outfits I think Momo was more confident because she was the one who really taught them how to bake
The magic use was CRAZY. Doremi STOPPED TIME in the very first episode!
Do you want to know the explanation for Hana-chan?
If not then skip the rest, so I guess spoilers:
Hana is an actual whitch (not a human like the others learning to be a whitch).
DOREMI FANDOM RISE
I didn't know Critter watched this show!!
Nice!
OMG!!! Magical girl may! Idk if you take requests but would you be up to reacting to: "yuki yuna is a hero" ? I'm not sure if you'd enjoy it, but yeah!
It's on my list of shows to check out! :D
@@thejudgmentalcritter6584 Omg?!?? I’m so excited 😭
OMG YOU HAVE TO WATCH ITT!!! Girl you dont know what you are missing!!!!!
Glad you covered Magical Doremi
I first watched it in English dub thanks to 4KIDS tv (I honestly don't know what happened to that company)
2:19
I did this all the time as a kid!
I was JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS SHOW
So for 25th anniversary the whole fandom is back ! 💀👍👍👍😎😎
marking the sharp transformations as the top batch = based video! my personal favorite season
I grew up watching this show!!! ::OOOO
but that was ages ago, I remember very little besides them being cute.
Are you going to ranked spells to?😀
Also you forgot the second transformations for Sharp
Wonder if we can do a countdown on the best episodes.
Can you rate Magia Record transformations?
To answer hana's case she's the next queen of witches from what i remembered
Pls pls watch it it's amazing
I do wonder if you would be interested in League of Legends Star Guardians lore in a future Magical Girl May video. (Playing the game is not required.)
Such a cute video 💜
Love madjorica,the witch leader,wormwitch😂
You forgot to Ever After High winter special
Now I suffer diabetes, these transformations are so cute.
Onpus first transformation is missing it seems like, unfortunate
She doesn’t have a transformation in the original series, unless you are referring to the one she has offscreen
@@anambivii OMG you're right, it's been a while and i imagined her sharp transformation as her s1 transformation in parts...
OOPs lmaoooo
Precure transformations next? 👀
Fun fact there is an anime about people going to find where they shot the ahow because in their universe the cartoon was live action
I really don't like how lazy the costumes for 16-20 are, they're just recreations of the originals with slight alterations, why not create new designs? Something more like what an adult witch would wear, and why not finally give them the full-fledged witch jumpsuit at the very end?
Hopefully, we’ll probably get a cast of new characters
Onpu is an idol.
Onpu ❤
Which witch outfit do you like more?
I really like their original dresses from their first transformations! :D
Sorry to inform you but there are no legal ways to watch the show. Sad but true. To see it all with great subs, you have to sail to the seven seas of the internet. It sucks I know, but when its between not watching it at all or becoming internet pirate to see it all, I personally chose the latter
People have the tendency to like the 2nd transformation more than rest
Look at enchantix which i consider the 2nd transformation (because i think charmix is just a power up) with how favourited it is amongst the winx fans
I think it's because usually the story is initially planned out to the point where they would get a second transformation so it's usually meant to be the final/ultimate form and then oops the show is too popular and we need more seasons and outfits to keep audience interest.
nice
👍🙂👍
Since I watched Sharp first and not the OG (because of Hana, who was originally a baby during Sharp and Motto*SPOILERS*), I thought Onpu was introduced in Sharp.
Why'd you skip.
@@jarvisball1569 Because I loved babies and little kids at the time and still do.
The dolls I own at least did not have reversible dresses-the Sweet Friends line had separate dolls for the Ojamajo and Pâtissière versions
Thanks for making the video! I really hope you change your stance and are able to find a site to watch the series because I just don’t think anything is going to get licensed 😢
Dude, just pirate it. If you can't support the show legally no one can morally judge you.
For real
And then if you want to support the big corporative with money buy some official merch
They make bank fron making life sized paperuton batons and transform compacts, and they're really cute
Anime fans nowadays got no guts
It’s OjamaJO!! Not OjamaHO! MaJO is magic. MaHO is witch
Majo is witch and maho is magic, but you are right about the pronunciation!
