What about trimming the factory tabs underside vertically to fit inside the frame as desired? (The excess bottom protruding below the frame could be pie cut to become weight bearing.) Then vertical step section the cross member to form a removable (3 rd piece) center portion? Overlap the 1 5/8" per side to drill and tap for bolts to shorten or horizontal 90° tabs could welded after removing the 1 5/8" from each side. I would rivet the end sections to the frame for authentics, K member struts can be added as proportions permit.
Go ahead and run the Hexagon Tool intake. Had one on a car and it was fine. The linkage runs on the passenger side of the carbs. Everyone says that they starve for gas under hard acceleration, but only if you are doing some hard racing. Besides, you'd have something that very few other people would know what it is.
Thanks for sharing, Travis! The modifications and fabrications made to the crossmember look great! 'Looking forward to seeing the engine and tranny going in! For the record...Shepard's gonna be hard to keep outta your garage, DAD! Hahahaha! Enjoy! Be safe! Bro Harry
Hey Travis, if it was me, I would trim that X-member & make it look like it's supposed to be there, haven't finished watching the video yet, looks to me you dropped your angle grinder, the plastic backing plate is busted, try going to your welding supply & buy one....nope!! I had to buy four or five on eBay so I have them in stock...be safe young man!! God Bless!!
Hello Travis. Those A heads date from the earlier flatheads where they had the valves closer to the cylinders. If the block is 59A you need to check valve clearance to the heads. There used to be a tool for clearancing the heads but a quick lick with a die grinder normally gets the job done. Re the crossmember would it be worth filling the hole on the other side and then cutting well into the crossmember to angle the bottom face up at a shallower angle? It would be great if you can make it look like a factory piece. All the best, Mart in England.
Matt, the heads actually came off that engine, not too sure if it’s exactly a 59 but same style that’s why I referred to it as a 59. And If the hole intersects with the angle I just might weld it up.
angle grinder catches the crossmember, hits Travis' leg, and Bob's your Auntie!
So glad you let your boy hang out. Wish I had that at his age..❤
I'm subscribing to the little bloke's channel!
You need a blast booth….!

Bro Harry
To clean that crossmember really nice ,a small sandblaster cabinet would become handy😊
Yeah if I had the space! I’ll have it blasted before I finish the truck
Oh my goodness!! My brother in law he cut his tendons off of his hand and he was an available for a couple months. Those grinders are dangerous

That’s most likely what I’m going to do, just want to give people with less skills other options that don’t seem so difficult to overtake.
Travis, one more comment, have you tried third gen obsolete Ford parts? Matt & Mike over at ITG turned me on to them.....great parts & price's!!
@@michaelguinn5736 I use third gen a lot
