If I understand it correctly you are referring to the 4 year period before your real time experience as a gap. But that is not a gap as you haven't yet started in the job. The best way to deal this is that you were looking at some odd jobs to support your family as such.

You have a clean profile. Don't disturb it. There are companies out there that don't really see that as a gap but your education for Masters. I strongly recommend you should try with the same experience. It's natural since there are less number of calls you are thinking this way, but I feel you should really stop looking at it like a gap.
