Great video, Cory! I inadvertently helped my CPDs to breed earlier this year when doing a rescape; moved the adults into holding tank for two days, then moved them out again. Two weeks later, noticed teeny tiny fry. Six months later, those fry are still alive and doing well in their own tank with Chili and Pheonix Rasboras. And yes, CPD's can be very shy unless there are other fish present to convince them it's safe to come out.
For those fish eat mid water, I’d recommend corydoras as their tank mates. As corydoras digging in gravel all day, they also send food and small particles to lower mid water where mid water swimmers can eat comfortably.
Is there any way to dual breed the two? I was looking online for something to maybe breed in the same tank as my CPDs, and I thought of corys, but I can’t find any instances of other people trying it.
I’ve found they don’t like much current. I switched them out for embers in a sort of high flow hillstream setup and they have been so much happier in the lower flow tank next door
I have them with some Cardinal Tetras and once I added to the school to get to 12, they are always some out and about. Fun beautiful fish. Thanks for the feeding tip!!
I have a school of 30-40 in my planted 45 gallon tank. It's always increasing. I keep 20-30 young guppies, 30-40 celestial pearl danios, 8 ottos and 1 female betta in my 45.
My original #8 are happily living and spawning in a fairly heavily planted 20 H with a sunburst platy trio. I was planning on it being a species only tank, but the platys helped so much with the cpds shyness that I'm very glad I added them. I'm using guppy grass for spawning material which I'm moving between the parent's tank and a planted, established grow out ten gallon. Parent's tank 74 degrees. Grow out tank a little warmer- 76.
I'm in the UK and have just this minute woke up, looked at my freshly cycled aquairum and thought to myself "I think I'll get some CPD's in here, that'll look good" hop onto my computer and see this?????????????????
@@jacqulynnchilds8382 I have 4 left out of seven. They had a move of about 450 miles a few months ago and I lost one then. Water parameters are about the same though. The other two I have no clue about. I still say they are very worth it and pretty tough. 👍
I looked into this recently as that name is still around stateside in places: turns out, that was one of their first names (this fish is relatively new to the hobby) once genetics were done they were found to be MORE closely related to danios- although they are (or at least were) the only described species within their genus. I have my suspicions about a different "rasbora" I recently saw at an lfs but haven't looked into yet.
@@lem0nade_899 they didn’t know they were danios when they discovered them, and they were in an area that it was more likely to find Rasbora’s species. Hence why they named them the galaxy rasbora. Thanks again for the video, got some white cloud mountain minnows and was thinking about getting these too, brilliant this video came up in time. Also, probably doesn't get mentioned enough, thank you for not ruining your videos with a million ads! Some of these 8 min videos from other creators have an ad nearly every minute! Awful.
These were the first fish I special-ordered online, got 8 of them a few months ago. They were so tiny I decided NOT to put them in with my betta like I had planned, but instead put them in the 29 gallon I had just cycled. They've thrived in there. I hear some say they're very shy but mine aren't especially so- they will dart away and into cover when I approach but within a minute they're all out and swimming around again. I have a planted tank with driftwood, cabomba, swords, and moss, and they love hovering at that mid-level point he mentioned above the moss and wood. I've added dwarf neo shrimp and gold laser cories into the tank- they were scared of the cories for less than a day before they figured out there was no threat and they're all getting along great now. I've got a bunch of baby shrimp in there now and TWO BABY DANIOS! They're so tiny it's hard to find them, lol. They stay up near a plant near the surface, away from the larger adults. I'm hoping they'll make it (had them a few weeks now and so far so good). I love watching these fish- they're interesting and constantly moving about, exhibiting behaviors, and exploring their tank.
I have, well I’m not sure, but a lot, in a 70 gallon. Tank mates are chili rasbora and hill stream loaches and obviously snails. I have never seen a fry successfully develop, despite a HEAVILY planted tank. Did you make this video for me? 🤣 Seriously, thank you. I am amazed at their personality in this type of setting. I cannot recommend this fish enough and I bet these beautiful peaceful fish are awesome in a 10 or 20 gallon planted aquarium.
The easiest way I have found to breed them is to just stick a male and female in a planted tank for about 10 days, then remove them and voila babies will start to appear. Don't have any other fish in the tank because they will be easily eaten even by other fry.
Perfect timing for the video! I just moved my CPD's to my big tank. The come all the time but I have other small community fish. I find frozen Daphnia work well for feeding too.
Nice video, mate! You are my dream youtuber and you should be super proud as to how well and precise you care for your fish! Have a great day, and regards from Australia! 👏
Perfect timing with this video. I just picked up four because that’s all they had. They love hanging out in my java moss in my driftwood. Very cool fish.
I've been breeding CPDs for the last year and Cory's pretty much spot on with everything. I will add that I've had no problem raising fry on Hikari Firstbites and powdered TetraColor granules as long as I raise them in established water/media. Also, I don't use the mop/moss method, I use the smooth flattish/rounded pebbles found at the chain stores and move the breeders instead of the media.
I've got my CPD's (6) in a tank with ember tetras (5), chili rasboras (10) and two female bettas. They are NOT shy at all. What I like to do for my fish is I crush their pellet food into mostly a powder and leave bigger chunks for the bettas. I swirl it around until it floats midway, cause the tetras like to catch on the way down too, and my chili rasboras like to eat closer to the bottom. For the danios today this worked out really well. The CPD's only entered the tank yesterday evening, and likely due to the number of fish, they are not reclusive at all. Could be the number of fish, could be that they are very small (Just over 1/2 inch), could be that there's enough hiding places and plants. Whatever it may be, they aren't shy in the slightest. I've already seen some breeding behavior which is incredible. I didn't think they'd start up right after entering the tank, and figured they'd need more time to adjust to a new environment. The danios don't have an established territory yet, but they seem to like the front right corner that nobody else has ever wanted, so that will probably become their spot.
I know this comment is kinda old, but I just want to say that it's super helpful. I'm actually planning on something very similar (1 male betta instead of 2 girls, no ember tetras, and probably just more chilis). So I'm glad to read that they can be a nice calm group. If you still have the tank, or if you remember, does the tank have any plants, and if so, which ones?
I love these guys. I moved a bunch of plants to my shrimp tank and didnt realise it was full of babies and eggs till i saw these funny little things that did not look like baby shrimp. Lol 😆. I now just put a shallow dish with a lime mesh bag stuffed full of java moss. I move it to another tank every few weeks to grow them out. The mesh helps keep the adults away from the eggs and fry so they have a chance in the display tank. I also fed the shell less artemia eggs before i made a hatchery.
I just saw last years vid of best nano fish and you talked me out of wanting them since they are fussy feeders you said. Also the price really ends the hope of a dozen or two. Gorgeous fish and salute to those who can keep them, breed them.
this video came just in time. Finally today is the day my LFS is selling me some danios as they are now big enough to be sold and I heading out in 20 minutes and buy as many as my money can get and put them in a new 50 gallon aquarium just for their enjoyment!
They LOVE Hikari Fancy Guppy food even more then Fluval Bug Bites... whole or crushed a bit... they also love to play soccer games with sunken Vitalis Catfish or Shrimp pellets, also crushed or whole... just need some bottom cleanup critters of choice... if they are shy feeding in the daytime, then early morning, or later evening when light is much lower... a few platies have been more helpful with shyness then any other fish but now probably there will be no cpd babies surviving.
I have my CPDs with Corydoras hasbrosus, and a variety of cherry shrimps. They don't like living with green kubotai rasbora! Had 17 cpd with 10 green kubotai and the green kubotai have bullied them into no longer enjoying the 4ft heavily planted low boy. Now only have 3 left. But the green kubotai are doing really well. They are the bosses of the tank

Are vinegar eels a good option for baby cpds?
@@reubendaly827 always! Pea puffers are amazing little guys. Make sure you have BBS to feed them though.
I find having big leaf anubias plants in the aquarium helps settle the food at mid water so they can keep coming back for more as they need it
Oh that is a good idea.
I found this too, I’ve got some taller rocks, the food settles there and they hit the buffet at their leisure.
Shallow tanks help too - they scan the floor surface and pick off food without trouble
