It was. At the time it was big improvement on the previous model Granada. I had both. The new shape took some getting used to for some people, but the gear box and performance were very good for the day. Even the coppers who stopped me at three in the morning said they were impressed by its speed and how it handled. I think they were looking forward to getting one themselves because they even sent me home with just a flea in my ear rather than a ticket. Ah, those were good times...........

No idea on engine size (maybe 2.9) but it was powerful as hell (I was only 10 mind) - thirsty on the fuel as I remember my step dad moaning at this and had trouble selling it for good profit.... ive never seen another at that trim level since so if anyone knows which one im talking about let me know. I think I could have extended to £1k to buy that. It was 1 cyl. down though but I'm sure that wouldn't have been much.
Mine was idling like a pig for some time. A new set of plugs and an air filter sorted it. Still need to give it a new dizzy & leads to improve it further.

Hmmm. Not quite sensible if you bought one new yourself. The depreciation was biblical. But a sound buy second hand.

They really should've brought this to the States - though I suppose it would've messed up Ford's "TaurUS for US" marketing

They did. It was marketed briefly as the Merkuer Scorpio.
