I lived in a town called Carrollton GA just outside Atlanta. And this song came out right after my sons mom and I divorced. So I literally had to take that highway 20 ride to pick him up! Thankfully I finally got custody of him a few years later and didn't have to make that ride anymore!

I totally relate to this song. I drove across the state of Florida twice every other weekend for about 6 years to get my kids and then drop them off. Even my kids said they didn't know how I did it. I told them, once you have kids, you'll understand.

This song just hits different for me. My parents divorced when I was 9 and I remember the rides between moms and dads house every other Friday. Both my parents are gone now, and I miss them terribly. My dad died first of leukemia. Mom died two years ago. They were the best parents two kids could ask for. This was a tough thing for my dad, as he didn't want to get divorced. My mom dud. She had her reasons. I was heartbroken for a long time. My brother was too young to remember it but I do. They remained close friends, and both were always there when needed them but I know my dad was heartbroken for years over this too. She was his everything.

I am a dad who took that ride for many years, and unfortunately, I was always on the losing end of getting to see my son every other Friday. My son has carried that burden that I intentionally missed those weekends because his mother told him that I called and told her that I wasn't going to make it. I was in the military at the time so my son assumed at that time that I was placing my priorities elsewhere but to him. Now that he is a grown man, he is having troubles of his own and I have to pick up the pieces of what his mother shattered, and yes I have every damn right to say that, and try to make a gentleman out of what she couldn't make of him. There isn't a day that I don't think about those rides from Killeen, TX, and Lawton, OK to a halfway point to get my son, and I was told on a phone call that I wasn't going to have my son for that time. It would kill me, but the state of Texas made sure that my support for him was paid, but my visitations weren't needed to be honored by his mother. This song strikes a chord in me and will always strike a chord in me and wonder if she had kept to her end of the decree and if my son would have been a different man than he is now.

This came out about the time my ex moved about 6 hours away with our son. I had my own hwy 20 drive down 69/75 and used to play this on the way home every time... basically to torture myself, but also make sure I could still feel and knew it was for the best. Thankfully, they moved back close a couple years ago... but I'll never forget that pain that this song captures so well.

    True story bro,
I got out of prison (4yrs) to a beautiful daughter of 8, I would drive 2hours to spend 30 minutes with her, and truth be told, I would have done it for one single minute with her. The happy ending in my case is that we now live together my dreams have been realised. The song "Highway 20 ride" gave much strength through the process, I'll never forget Zach Browb for his contribution for my happiness.

In all fairness, the FIRST time or two you hear this song, you absorb the great TUNE, but not so much the WORDS. When you put the words to meaning, it chokes you up. Kind of like Piano Man by Billy Joel: The tune is benign, but when you listen to the words, it tells a very sad story. I admit, what attracted me to Highway 20 Ride, was the ENDING: "Oh oh ohhh oh oh oh oh oh!"

I'm a 1960's baby. My parents should have gotten divorced but stayed together until we were all out of school because that's how it was back then. I was the middle child. Dad favored my older sister, mom favored my younger brother. A lot of useless arguing back and forth mostly from mom. I ended up with a hard don't give a shit atitude. Moms used to use the guilt trip stuff alot. So guess what? Still takes a lot to make me feel guilty.

I have an aunt and uncle who married at 18 and had my cousin. 2 years later they split when they both realized they weren't right for each other, but they still remained close friends and she still was invited to all the family gatherings. It still amazes me how close they remained after the divorce and it wasn't even for my cousin that they remained close, they never fought and never had anything but good things to say about the other. When my aunt remarried, we were all invited to the wedding because even though they were divorced, we were all still a part of her family. My uncle and my aunts husband became good friends as well. After losing my uncle about 5 years ago, we still see my aunt (she'll always be my aunt) at almost every gathering.

Everytime I heard this song I tried to understand my Dad in his situation. My mom divorced him when me and my brother were 8. He was on the road for 5 years and 9 months. He finally came home in June from driving over the road to stay and not go back out. Last summer I went out on the road with him for 2.5 weeks. When we came across the Florida state line I finally knew how he felt. Being gone for so long at times it's hard not to miss your family especially your kids.

Sorry to kind of hijack the video, but I have a question for all of you, who are experiencing this Highway 20 Ride in real life. I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Japanese-American. My ex-wife is Black/Cherokee/White. Our daughter was born in 2013, when I was 40 and my ex-wife was 22. We have a good relationship, and get along. She took majority custody of our daughter, who is 9 in 2022. Before the pandemic, I got visitation with my daughter, and had her for 3 weeks every summer. When the pandemic hit, for safety reasons, we had much less in-person contact. My ex-wife is a great lady, and I wish her well. Nothing bad happened between us. It was just too much of a "forced" relationship. No denying, me being 18 years older than her, makes it difficult for both of us. So anyway, what do you all suggest that I do, to keep in touch with my daughter, and not let her feel like I'm "abandoning" her?

You know you were doing great right up until you said most guys walk out on their kids. You’ve obviously never been through the meat grinder that is family court. I’ve spent over $130k, 2 bogus PPOs and a false domestic charge just to stay in my kids lives. Their mom has tried everything to push me out just because she’s jealous that I love my kids more than her parents ever did her. The system doesn’t care about what’s right, simply collecting money from fathers and getting their federal funding.

This song tears me apart. I have to leave constantly to go for business. Military. And the mom and I have fallen way apart and divorce. But, my boys are my heart. Especially when my youngest begs me to not leave. It rips your heart to pieces. And it takes a strong soul to live it. I do hope you realize, though, that the moms aren’t always the damn victims. As one who can talk, it isn’t the case. Sometimes dads are the victims here.

You're dumping on the dude. Maybe the guy is working 16 hours a day on an oil rig to give a lazy hog a nice life,,, nevermind. Sometimes it's her fault

Also.. I haven't seen my daughter for 6 years, after a long, protracted custody fight that I lost because I had no money at the time... And there's not a day I'm not angry and in pain because I broke a promise to my daughter.... It's what drives me. To make it up to her, do failing her

I had to pause this video, because you said that you don’t hear about long relationships that often anymore. There is still hope, as I am 42 years old, and about to celebrate our 21 year anniversary. We almost didn’t make it to 10, so we are very thankful for every year

Don’t have kids of my own but it reminds of how things should be between my goddaughter and her father. Unfortunately that’s not the case😕. But I do what I can for her.

It’s crazy when you think everything is going great 10 years and then they leave. Also in the back of my mind I get it I understand. The fact I work a lot to put food on the table and bills payed roof over our heads. But if they want to
    Leave it’s ganna
Hurt but there’s the door the grass might not be so green on the other side

I am married and the mere thought of being in this situation breaks my heart. My parents were divorced but they lived in the same town and joint custody so I saw my Dad all the time but I have always had somewhat of an idea of this life but adding my son to my life really brought it home.

Love your reaction. I won’t ever do my children like my parents did me. I grew up in a foster home. Trust me that ain’t gonna happen to my kids. This song always hits home for me

There's only one good reason not to be there for your child and that's death. Otherwise it's any parent's responsibility to do whatever it takes to provide that child with every physical and emotional need they have. Too many parents would rather feed a drug addiction than feed their own children. Sad

There is one thing I can’t figure out. People who fight in world 1 -2 and there still together and never tore them apart and now days say something wrong and it’s done. To me it doesn’t make sense
