    Ramin is exactly right.If phantom comes back it should remain the brilliant original and not change it to the newer version.

      Saw the original 5 times and the new once. TBH did not love it. You don't mess with perfection.

      the *ONLY* thing I'd change abou the original is the chandelier. I saw the 25th anniversary tour about 5 times and *LOVED* that at intermission little pieces of rubber fell to the ground. I collected quite a bit of those pieces.

    That was my thought…If it comes back to Broadway, Ramin should be the Phantom. He is perfection.

    I saw the opening production in Trieste and really thought it had the potential to work and grow a different version of the story along. It was interesting with really cool elements and I'm happy to hear its in Milan in October and Monte Carlo afterwards then world tour. I think he will do the tour but if it comes back to Broadway I don't know that's a huge commitment at this stage but who knows. It was an honour to see him in Trieste as always. Such a kind soul. Xx

    Am I the only one who loved the tour version? 😂 I thought the rotating steps that they walked down to get to the boat was way better than walking back and forth across a bridge. Thought the chandelier reveal was much more sudden and dramatic also, and the chandelier crash was much faster, more intense and more convincing. Just my opinion I guess

    Do we know what 'tough time' Ramin is referring to that he's been going through (regarding his voice, etc) ?

    • @Makeji

      He has had issues with his foot (a toe, I think), so it's painful for him to walk, much less, dance. He got some special treatement just before he did the 2 shows in February (which is when this was taped). In the most recent The Hang with his two musician friends he talks more about it. He has alluded to the songs in FG being hard on his voice.

      @@Makeji thanks for the info. interesting though how someone who sang the part of Valjean (which is an incredibly demanding role to sing) in addition to all the numerous dynamic roles he's sung, ... I'm curious what would be so challenging about the role of Nicky Arnstein... what would be more hard on his voice than previous roles.

    • @Makeji
      @Makeji Рік тому +4

      @@badkat68 He said something about the style of the song and where it lays on his voice. Part of it, I think, is that he isn't using his voice to it's full potential and there is a lot of shouting in the role - so more talking than singing. Laird said he had problems doing My Fair Lady because the songs he "sang" weren't meant to be sung, but talked or shouted.

      @@Makeji makes complete sense. Heavy talking/shouting will wear on the voice faster than singing.

      @@davidcattin7006 The problem with the original is $$$. It became too expensive to operate now, which is why Broadway closed. Also, people just weren't going to see it. The box office was not covering expenses. A friend of mine has seen both productions and London is smaller, but retains the most significant elements of the original. There will be more mechanical devices instead of hiring actual people (sad for the people, but that was a big expense). The orchestra is smaller and supplemented with keyboards. Some of the scenic elements have been changed to, simply because a smaller venue will be used. The story itself, though, will remain the same, replicating the Hal Prince direction. The tour went waaaay off track in that regard which is what I think most people are concerned about.
