Found your channel through the book tube rabbit hole, and I am thrilled. Thank you for creating quality content. I love the diverse mix of literature that you cover. I get the sense that your channel will provide reviews of old familiars I have loved, along with great recommendations for authors I have not read. I have sourced a few new titles for my collection thanks to your recommendations like the collected works of Primo Levi. 😊 Your rant on Clarice Lispector's novel has peaked my interest to pick up her collection of short stories that I ordered at the beginning of 2022. ( I wasn't sure where to start with her novels, and thought I would test the waters with her short stories.) After watching your video, I am super curious to dive into the collection. Hope your May is full of interesting discoveries and quality reads. Looking forward to your future videos!!
Aw thank you that means a lot! I hope you enjoy Levi’s works he is such a classic author! Also I think you have the right idea there, I wish I had started with her short stories first and then worked my way to her novels to get better accustomed to her writing!
I love this video! I love the rants and the way we got to see your conflicted opinions about some of the books you read :) both inspired and really interested now!
This is kinda random but I really like how you used the stickies on the Lispector book lol. But I felt the same with Beseiged City. Her writing didn't flow as well as it has in some of her other books. I'm currently ~200 pgs into her short collection and there are SO many gems. I'd def recommend them! I'm excited to finish the collection and pick Apprenticeship up. I want to know if I recognize the short stories she uses. I also really liked Cold Enough for Snow and I'm still excited to read In the Shadow of Yali. Loved hearing your thoughts on all of these!
Haha thank you I actually used washi tape and it looks a lot more aesthetic haha, and omg ok I have got to get my hands on her short stories!! Also hope you still enjoy In the Shadow of the Yali, i was probably a bit too harsh!!
this is a great channel, second or third time now in the last month or so ive had the thought "i wonder if she posted a new video", guess that means i should subscribe. thank you for making and sharing your videos.
ooh, you've made me want to read Walking on the Ceiling, too! (and reread White Teeth and Notes from Underground.) could NOT get into that Clarice Lispector...
Hi! I'm so glad I came across your channel! My reading tastes diverge from yours considerably, but I'm ready to hear your opinion about every book you've ever read lol, you have a really engaging way of talking about books. Anyway, I've noticed that you read female authors profusely, and I'm wondering if you seek out books by women on purpose or just naturally gravitate towards them?
Thank you for listening! Its funny i dont really consciously think about it but i end up reading mostly women! I found that most of the “classics” i read are by men but most of the contemporary books i read are by women
The only Zadie Smith novel I've read is swing time and I really liked it. I hope to read on beauty this year and white teeth would come next (or nw but her whole fiction is so interesting)
I also read Clarice Lispector’s The Apprenticeship or The Book of Pleasures. I hated how condescending Ulisses is to Lori. I love Lori’s journey and awakening. I also gave it 4 stars.
Heh, your hatred of In the Shadow of the Yalı has convinced me to put it on hold at the library. It sounds like the kind of 30s/40s nonsense that I enjoy (for mostly meta reasons). 🤣

Oo I liked Swing Time as well! I also really want to read On Beauty, I've only heard good things!
Polarizing stuff is interesting. Incidentally, i'm writing a tedious section about phenomenal polarity.

ah glad I'm not the only one! Lori is the real hero here
