You definitely aren't exaggerating I have a 94 Polo green coupe and I took the top out one time and it drove so bad I never took it out again. Been looking at these braces for a while. I think the people who say their cars don't shake or drive different probably have cars that are already wore out and shake rattle and pop. My car is well kept and has fairly new Struts etc. Love the C4 content
Nope, both my C4s didn't have any different ride with or without the top. I have a 1991 now and previously owned a 1995. I'm not saying your car doesn't shake with the top off but they all don't do it.
Mine noodles as well. Inexperienced drivers or people who are not as in tune with the machine as others won’t notice any shimmy. My 88 iroc hat t tops and was a world of difference compared to my c4
Thanks for the Video Tim. I was looking for this product last year, but that manufacturer stopped making them. Ebay has one or two used ones for sale once and a while. For me I would purchase it for open top safety. I have seen C4's through C7's crush down during roll overs. I'm 6'3'' and would be scalped. Right now, I'm going to buy a roll-over bar/seat belt kit for my 87 first. Then, I'll consider this product too. Between the two, I'll have some peace of mind as my model has No Air-bags and my engine puts out over 500 NA HP.
There is an X brace on the convertible for support and if you look under the coup the mounting holes are in the under carriage, I believe if you can find it you can install it on the coup, I also saw a company advertising brackets that mount underneath to help this problem too, I havn't ruled out the transverse springs seeing how the fiber glass is over 30 years old. My 92 not only shakes but the steering column wobbles which is pretty annoying which could be from the tilt wheel steering pins being worn from people using the wheel to exit.
You can get an oversized steering column pin to fix the wobbly steering wheel. I just did that on my 1990. The 'other' brace you are talking about is the vette2vette frame stiffening bars, which I also have. They made a noticeable difference when the top is off, but it certainly doesn't eliminate frame flex like advertised. Still worthwhile, imo.
Speaking about pain. I had my passenger side door come closed on me with the glass up while I was lifting the top off. Nearly dropped the top due to the sharp pain in my gut.
@@misterdanielsiii I took an old battery powered screwdriver and stuck a cig lighter plug on the end of it. I still use the ratchet to initially loosen or to get it to it's final torque, but it's like taking off all 4 wheels at a race, zip zip zip zip. Done.
Whats the point of this? Might as well just put the roof back on. Both my 93 and 96 had the same shake when roof was removed. Its just the nature of the beast-your removing the roof structure on an already flimsy chassis. I'm sure road, suspension and tire condition effect how obvious it is. C4 nuance!
I have a very old add-on which allows me to prop the hatch up about 2.5" which allows airflow to smoothly go through. That makes a big difference.
what's this called? any more info/

Great Video, Tim! I'm shopping for a C4 LT1/6spd. I'm saving your video and subscribed!

Pretty cool. I've never seen that product before.
Great video! Very true…I have a brace for mine as well.
Never had bad shaking or nothing taking the top off of my 90 zr1 I’ve had top on and off numerous times,

Love that purple
Good video Sir
great review !!!!
Very nice where can I get for my C4 please let me know thanks very good.
thank you
I hate removable tops. I really wish they made a model with a fixed roof.
Looks like a great improvement. Does it mount in the rear like the targa top does for storage?
No, it does not.
@@timwiggins4668 That's kind of a bummer. I think a nice add-on would be to somehow make a bracket to have it fit.
I just never take my targa top off ... after the original novelty waned .... too much of a pain to remove.
4 bolts and it takes less than 10 minutes. I use a battery powered screwdriver to quicken it.

The point is simply to offer a top-off open-air experience without experiencing excessive body vibration.
