It's so important to be able to stand up in your RV. These flexible roofs solve the space problem. I converted my Windstar mini van with a full kitchen and storage, but skipped making a bed which would've taken up all my space. I just sleep on the floor in my sleeping bag on a memory foam mattress. If only the roof went up.

Nice to see campers around the world. Here in US simple is best and self built campers abound. All unique in there own way. The VW wonder-lust lives on in homemade units.

No place for toilet. Love the size and price. Need more options. We made a camper from a town and country. Still looking-- love the pop up. And swivel front seats. A must

Hi there. These are cheapest new models on the market
Great, economical with low fuel/gasoline usage because of their size. But I saw none had toilets or showers bathrooms so that's a negative for me. You can't always to go in nature at night or for safety reasons. Not for van life but pretty good for day trips or short weekends.
Especially if you're full time and in the van during cold winters. Doesn't work.
Number 2 had a toilet, but most of these are extremely small. Its probably just up to you to buy a small portable toilet and stash it under a seat somewhere.
Which USAavailable midsize van has the highest ground clearance? The Toyota looks nice but the ground clearance for trailheads is too low. Any ideas? Ford city mini van is too small and lame for trailheads. I’m frustrated for sure searching for four years. Seems like they only design for soccer moms or urban flower shops.
Such a shame they won’t be bringing the VW Ocean to the USA. I like the Recon version on the NV200, an economical platform with impressive mileage.

@@MustSeeTech Every UK garage seems to offer their own take on the campervan - usually starting with a transporter and culminating in a grey carpet clad mess. Unfortunately no other van is quite as desirable as the cali but it is not cheap. We don't get real bargains because EU models are LHD and they often have no interest in making them for us. We are very jealous of their huge choice of small vans produced by the French (Rapido) and Germans (Knaus, Hymer etc) that cost 40,000 euros to buy in LHD and £60,000 to buy in RHD if we ever get them.

We need a true hybrid, non-plug-in, minivan or cargo van, to convert to s camper. That electric can only go 187 miles???? That's useless. Only a true hybrid but bigger than a highlander...

Hi, Tim. First, It has not been through US safer tests, but most importantly, VW does not see a large market here, due to the expected final cost of the van.
I actually wrote to Volkswagen and asked that very question. Their response was they believed that American drivers were too in love with their SUVs and would not pay the cost of the VW California. They also believed that for Americans actually interested in a camper the VW was too small. Those buyers would prefer larger motorhomes with showers and toilets.
Cheap to me would be under 5k these prices are ridiculous!!!!!!!!!! Stick to hotels

Cheapest campervans? As compared to what? Some of these can't be purchased in the U.S.A. at any price! There is no such thing as an affordable campervan unless you buy a used cargo van and build out the camper interior yourself.

@@MustSeeTech, The bottom line is most people cannot afford most of the built out camper vans here. That is very frustrating because I know these ARE probably the cheapest on the market. And I know you didn't say it was for US only. It just adds to the frustration to see so many videos with camper vans that Americans can't even consider because they're not sold here. Not everyone in America wants a giant motorhome.
