Amazing! Reminded me of the Chesapeake Bay when bluefish and speckled trout would chase bait fish to the surface. I also cringed every time I saw you unhooking the popper from one of those bass. I'm glad you didn't get hooked! Thanks for sharing your video! Dave
I’m always nervous around all the treble hooks. The smallmouth bad don’t make it easy to unhook them.
Making plans to take my teenagers out to catch some summer smallmouth.
Good luck! Sand flats and topwater baits are a good place to start.
Awesome
Thank you!
Loving the channel! I'm south in pool 13, any chance you could share some tips on locating fish in the main channel? It's my biggest downfall as an angler.
That's something I can talk about in a video sometime but in general your looking for major current breaks, the right amount of current and some sort of cover with food. Rip rap banks and wingdams are the some of the go to spots but the flow has to right. When the river is up the main channel can be tough to fish.
Really enjoying your channel about Mississippi river fishing as I am from Hastings pool 3
Very helpful !!!!
I I think it’s great that you are very good at multi species fishing keep up the good work
Thanks G-man! I appreciate the comment!
Smallies on fire like that... Literally a fisherman's wet dream. Then your like hey i can even topwater walleye lol yeah i'm jealous again. Great vid.
Everything kinda just came together. I knew the area was good and then they made it obvious. Thanks Chad!
White bass got me hooked on fishing
Aggressive and hard fighting...hard to beat that!
These nights are special ones. Love when I see them busting minnows makes it so much fun!
It makes catching pretty easy! Nice when you don't have to work for them.
Man how many did you catch that day? I’ve never had a walleye on topwater. Insane day!
Thank you Nate! I didn’t count… a lot!
Thank you Nate! I didn’t count… a lot!
Never had a walleye on a topwater ran into a similar situation on pool 4 this evening but they were largemouth
They are a blast when they are schooled up and feeding!
Topwater white bass can be so much fun this time of year great stuff! I have caught a lot of walleye on topwater in the past mostly in Canada on walking baits, had a couple evening where the walleye were flying out of the water hitting the baits so hard just insane
That's crazy! I have never heard of walleye hitting topwater. It does make sense that they would especially if they are after suspended schools of bait.
@@AnglerX yeah it is pretty incredible when you get on them on top! The places that I have caught them the best on top water are actually inflows on lakes with relatively shallow water, like 3-6 feet deep. Throwing the walking baits and wake baits up shallow in the flow has worked very well especially in slightly stained or tea stained water up north. I have a retired Zara spook that I caught probably 40+ topwater walleye on and is one of my favorite lures in my collection, tight lines!
They were definitely on fire ! Looks like you had a blast!
Thanks Todd! So much fun!
I've caught a couple walleye on a war eagle night spinnerbait fast retrieve just bubbling under the surface, my nephew caught a 7lb 14oz 28" walleye on a tributary of Wisconsin river on a spinnerbait while going for bass/ northerns, i might have to add a couple of poppers to my arsenal to try.
I've caught a few on spinnerbaits before as well. This one was in only a couple feet of water when it hit my popper.
What pool ya on ? Looks fun .
Lance you might find it funny but my largest Walleye 28 inch was caught on a white 1/2 oz spinner bait when I was Northern Pike fishing. I have caught Walleye on a fly rod but not a top water popper.
I'll bet that was a surprise to see that giant walleye on your spinnerbait! Thats an awesome fish!
When you literally have no reason to ever leave that river... lol
Always something to fish for!
Did someone say Top Water White Bass 👀
Yep you're spoiled a bit out there lance lol
It's a great fishery with endless options.
