Two slain officers lie in pools of blood on the street. There's no pattern to the killings and police are confused and scared. Only after gunshots splatter his partner across a back alley and Detective Lon McQ himself narrowly escapes death does the bloody rampage make sense. Now McQ knows whom to go after. John Wayne thunderously enforces the law in a high-velocity thriller that's like a big-city revenge Western on wheels. Directed by action master John Sturges (The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven).
    Directed By John Sturges
Starring John Wayne, Eddie Albert, Diana Muldaur

0:27 The look on John Wayne's face, without a word you know exactly what the character is feeling. It's why I say John Wayne was a better actor than he's given credit for. He was more than just a tough guy actor.

Exactly, his friend Boyle just passed away and McQ figures the guy at the restaurant...."Santiago", paid ten grand to take out Boyle and himself. Needless to say, McQ was very pissed. Great line at the end of the scene...."he's taking a shower".

As a person that started watching movies because there was only one tv and you watched what was on and an adult picked what to watch… John Wayne’s movies covered comedy, drama, cops and westerns and always played the good guy, the guy trying to do the right thing. Make him mad equals a punch to the face. He was awesome then and still awesome now in 2024.

I really wish Wayne had lived to do more movies. It’s interesting to see him in something other than a western. He was a deceptively great actor, who never got the credit he deserved. I would loved to see what he would’ve done in the 80s and a broader range of roles.

J&M cafe in PioneerSquare Seattle I took a John Wayne fan friend there the first time he was in Seattle. He wondered why I took him there as we drank a few beers standing there. He came back from the men's and knew why. We always referred to it as the John Wayne Memorial Shower. Plumbing code banned trough urinals and it was removed. Not sure but I think the place is now closed. A sad end to a great bar and memory

Draven...no extended fight scenes in this film, but a couple of cool scenes showing Wayne driving a pristine 1973 Trans Am. Yes, Wayne's physical confrontations in the film are brief, but enjoyable to watch. For example : later in the film Santiago takes McQ and tells him that he didn't like what he did to him in the restroom earlier, and then Wayne says "I kind of enjoyed it myself". Then, as the scene ends on television viewings, Santiago slugs Wayne in the face. But I saw an unedited version on TV many years ago that shows that right after Wayne gets punched by Santiago, Wayne then kicks him in the groin as if to say " TAKE THAT"! Damn funny actually. I don't think that moment is in the DVD, but it was in an unedited version that was shown on TV a long time ago.

Years ago I read a very interesting story written by a former Green Beret, he was a 1st Lieutenant at the time and already had two tours in Vietnam under his belt when he was sent to Ft Benning where he was one of the cadre training Army Special Forces, after hearing one day that John Wayne was coming to Ft Benning to make a movie about the Green Berets he snorted in disgust and said "Well he better not come anywhere around me because I'll give him an earful, he's never even heard a shot fired in anger and he thinks he's gonna make a movie about us? Yea right, Mr movie star, they better just keep him away from me".
One day several weeks later he heard a commotion in the hallway outside his office and upon stepping out into it he found himself standing face to face with none other than John Wayne, Wayne stuck his hand out and said "Hi, I'm John Wayne" (as if he needed an introduction), the Lt said that in the heat of the moment the only thing he could think to do was shake his hand and say "It's a pleasure to meet you Mr Wayne" and turned immediately and walked back into his office and sat right down at his desk.
His summary of his story was "Anyone who thinks that they would ever have told John Wayne off about anything never stood face to face with him".
