I think I have watched every plow install you ever did enjoy it every time
I have done a few on video now but I have done even more before UA-cam.
@@mossman381 I can imagine
Dads 2013 was the newest truck I have installed a plow on. I have installed a few plows on brand new trucks just not newer than 13.
@@mossman381 I did my 97 many years ago only did a unimount
Great job with the wiring install.
I think it calls for significant ballast in the owners manual of these chevys for operating with a Snowplow.
I like around 600 to 800 pounds.
And like you said , the weight needs to be behind the rear axle
Been waiting for this one. Good job bud! Love the vids
Nice job on the wiring! Plow looks good on the truck! Awesome video
I didn't think nothing could replace the dually, but this is getting really really close!😁👍 great job there sir.
if you "didn't think nothing" then you thought something could. 2 negatives make a positive
Absolutely badass setup buddy the plow looks awesome nicely done
Looks and works good. No real major issues.
@@mossman381 seeing that plow on your truck makes me want to just pony up the money an buy a plow an make money an buy my ultimate dream truck which is a cclb dually duramax with a magnum rack an a fuel transfer tank an toolbox combo an run a western dxt v blade an just make money.
Seems like we have gotten less and less snow. Some years I wonder why I even have a plow.
@@mossman381 because its better have an not need then to need an not have!!!! I swear by that saying! My dad would always say it to me,an ever since his passing i replay that daily.
That is a pretty good saying.
Great looking truck pulling the grill & headlights again. Don’t forget to get a tube of amsoil sub zero grease it works all the time on sliding the plow in. Does Rusty likes the new truck. peace brother
Rusty doesn't have as much room as the crew cab trucks but I think he likes the new truck.
That's a super sharp sweet looking setup! Probably my favorite truck you've had besides the duramax dually.
Probably my favorite truck since the dually as well.
Looks great Randy, thar truck carries the plow very well👍
I have gotten some plow time in and there are a few things I need to change but overall I am happy.
Cab light installation video coming soon!! Truck is looking amazing with the homemade bumpers and stainless plow!
I am not a big fan of cab lights on a single rear wheel truck.
Noticed near the end when you back out of the garage your truck doesn’t sag a bit. How did you accomplish that? Timbrens,,,keys,,,torsion adjustments...? Would love a video on that subject. I just bought the same plow today for my 2011 Duramax.
The factory torsion keys are turned all the way up and I am using SuperSprings on this truck. I have many videos showing different kinds of setups. I have used Timbrens and SuperSprings. If you look on my channel you can find all kinds of plow related content.
Hi, there yes thanks after I wrote this question I discovered them on your channel. I like the sumo springs.
My 2011 has 2” keys and I’m going to get timbrens. My MVP3 is in the bottom of the back 3 leveling holes on both sets. Attach angle seems steep. Thanks I enjoy your videos. Check out mine.
I noticed when you took the plow off in the garage that the plow was sitting quite a bit lower than your receivers. I had the same problem with my 17 super duty after I did a 2” level and 35s. What I used to to was stick the floor Jack under the A frame and Jack the front of the truck up like 1.5” before I dropped the legs. Then you SHOULD be able to smoothly pull back into it.
Getting it higher and level probably would help. I will just pull it on with the winch until I can park it in front of a snow pile. That only takes like a minute.
Perfect timing! Im trying to do the wiring for a new wideout on my f350. The headlight connections are confusing to me and the splicing
I have never done a Ford truck. My guess is they are very similar to the GM stuff. The headlight harness plugs into the original headlight plugs and then the Western harness plugs into the headlight bulbs. On the GM stuff I have to make sure the grounds wires line up when plugging in the headlight plugs. Splicing into the parking lights and turn signals is only as hard as finding the wires on the truck. Then just tap into them.
Randy you are awesome at these installs. I do have one question. Is there a way to tell if you don’t have enough balist weight?
You can go on Westerns website and find out the recommended ballast. Really the more weight you have the better.
That’s a damn good looking Chevy love the wheels too damn. I just got the 20’ white custom looking for a plow maybe boss like the western SS though.
Thanks, I was looking for something newer. I found this truck for less than half of a new custom and just about as mint as a new truck. Couldn't pass it up.
Now you can go back to the 9,6
I have the same issue with my ultra mount 1. Wideout. I need to lift on the light rack to get it to slide in
I think the 8'6" with wings is big enough for me. The plow use to just slide right on. Seems like when they are new they slide in better. I will just winch mine on until I can unhook it in front of a snow pile.
Wait until you get LED on the new westerns. Twice as many wires, Extra module but man are they bright and worth the upgrade IMO. Do you think you receiver problem could be the the height of your truck and the plow Fran being angled a bit? Are you in the upper hole on the plow?
The LED headlights are tempting but really expensive. Do you think they are worth $800? The angle probably doesn't help but when it was new it just slid into place. I haven't fine tuned the adjustments for this truck yet but I remember having trouble way back even with my dually after the plows get a year or so old.
For $800 probably not, they are roughly $400 when you buy a new plow so at that price I would say yes. Hopefully you can come up with a solution, it seems like it would be annoying that it doesn’t slide in. Love your videos man, just wanted to let you know!
I believe the 07-13 trucks have a 145A alternator on most of them.
I have something a little extra on my truck. Will do a video soon.
For your next truck can you get another dully?
Maybe
Bout time to put those speed tech lights on there
I should have had lights on it already just got busy with other things. Hopefully soon.
Good video Mossman! Which truck do you think is better built and quality, the 2009 Silverado 2500 or the 2006 Silverado 2500?
If I could find a 2001-2002 dually in the same condition as this truck I would take the older truck. Those generation trucks were really well built. It was like GM took everything they learned from 88-98 and made a great truck. I feel they went backwards a bit with the interiors of the 07-14 trucks.
Nice video Randy! The only thing that would have made it better is that you had a Boss Plow. Not that they are any better than a Western. It just so happens I run a Boss 8'2" Boss V Plow.
I know about your Boss. I remember watching your videos a long time ago. Have you been able to use your new truck yet?
@@mossman381 Randy, this has not been a good year for me. I hit a deer with the new truck about a month ago. She just turned over 1,000 miles. Lucky no damage was done to the frame or running gear but a new front bumper, right front fender, right front door and slight damage to the right rear door and rocker panel. It is all fixed now and looks like new. Snow coming this week and the plow is ready to go. Hopefully I'll get some video. It has been a long time since I posted any snow plowing videos. So you can see for yourself if the new duramax has what it takes. I looked on the Boss Plow site and it says I do not need any ballast. I'll give it a try on my driveway without any. If I find I need some. The Lowes store is just 6 blocks away.
Wow, you are having bad luck. Sucks having to have a brand new truck fixed. I had a woman almost hit me during our last storm. She actually tried to hit my twice. First she slid past a stop sign. Then a few turns later she almost rear ended me as I slowed down for an accident. I would have been sick if my mint truck would have been wrecked.
@@mossman381 You have one sweet truck. I would be sick also and I was sick when mine was damaged but all is well now.
Yeah, things happen.
I’m sorry if you’ve been asked this before, but what did you do the help the ifs carry the load of the plow?
I would recommend Sumo Springs or Timbrens: ua-cam.com/video/PwfcA1HOkp4/v-deo.html
Is it worth it to get a winch that you operate using a drill i came back to one your old videos and that the problem im having and i dont have any machines to push it in
I am not sure. My winch pulls it straight into the receivers because it's mounted inside the bumper. What will you hook the drill winch to? Before I had the winch I just parked the plow in front of something so I could push against it. Sometimes it will just go in. One thing you might try it putting something under the blade before unhooking. Like a piece of 2x4. That might help get the right angle to slide in.
What color is the drl light wire on the truck side and the park light on the truck side
Been too long I don't remember. The video should show everything pretty good.
do you think i could use a jack ? to slide it in ? like a floor jack i don't have a floor jack
I don't know. Mine is working fine this year. I just drive into it and hook it up. Make sure you really stomp the feet down when you unhook it. If you park it in front of a snow pile you can push it on.
I was gonna hook one side to the tow hook
How many bags you have 8n the back
6 bags at about 70lbs each.
Might need to adjust the plow for the new truck looks like you nose is up when the plow is down
I didn't measure it in the shop but it looked pretty close to where it needs to be.
is that a new plow looks it
I have had this plow for 3 plowing seasons I think.
How's the tire rub with the plow on?
More than I like.
