One last question. With all the heavy rain we are receiving this week, can I begin sealing on Friday if the rain ends on Wednesday? Running out of warm weather, which is why I’m asking.

It was a lot of rain. Water based you will be okay. Oil, it is best to use a moisture meter this time of year in the NE. I do not believe Friday is a good idea. It will need two good drying days for an oil Thursday and Friday.

Thank you for all of your videos. That have been great for a homeowner like me who has sealed decks in the past and needed to learn from mistakes made. I’ve been working on a fairly large cedar deck that is elevated, meaning I need to use a ladder on the outside of the railing and about 5 inches of decking (on the outside of the railing) since the railing’s 4x4 posts are set inside the deck surface. The deck is 2.5 years old and basically turned black after only being sealed once after installation. Between cleaning and sanding it links like it is brand new but their is no product original product left from the original application. I have a few questions
-I’m applying a light stain/sealer without much pigment. Given the weather change in the NE (I am also in the NE) can I apply between 50-60 degrees? If not, is it better to leave it for spring application or apply now and out an additional coat in the spring?
-should I do the railing first from top to bottom, using plastic to avoid drips and then seal the boards (one section at a time) or should I do the whole deck first and then go back to do the railing after the deck dries ?
    - I see you are firm on your suggestion of not using sand paper over 100. I used 120 and then saw your directive. Do you think I will have a major problem with pealing or will the sealer just not absorb as well, meaning I need to reapply in the spring?
-and last question. What do we do if in the process of sealing we have a spill that ends up leaving a line before all stain was able to be cleaned? Yes I had a full gallon of stain lose it’s lid as it fell out of my hands dripping down through the cracks to the area below and on the stucco. Clean up took a while and the stain set in a bit. Resending has helped a bit but I am uncertain if lines will mostly cover when I apply stain.
I recognize there are lots of questions here but you are clearly more knowledgeable than any retailer or precessional I have encountered. Thank you in advance.

This is off the subject but I need an answer please. I've got a weight bearing screened porch column that is rotted inside. I used white vinegar trying to kill the rot. Then I used bleach. Did I make a mistake using the bleach? I've pulled out all the rot I can using a brush and screwdriver. And was going to fill it using bondo. But now I'm wondering if the column needs replaced. It's really hard to get a carpenter to do a "little job" - but it's big to me, because the porch could fall down. Anyone got an answer? Thanks.

@@darnisejennings9138, I got a large deck too. I don’t mind it too much since we spend A LOT of time on it so we get the use for sure. Depending on who is helping you, do the verticals on a separate day as the floor if possible.
