The Jaguar armament is top notch IMO. The 40mm CTA cannon is very flexible since it can shoot programmable ammo and makes it capable of facing infantry, drones, small structures and light vehicles, whil you can still us APFSDS for medium AFVs. The akeron is a terryfing anti tank missile and to be hones pairing it with a drone means that you could win a battle against two MBTs without ever entering their line of sight. In oother words you can do a bit of everything.
the airburst capacity of the 40mm cannon could also be effective against low speed aircraft. Obviously not its purpose but it makes them a threat to take into account for the enemy
@@odysseustdm7573 The very same cannon is now on the new fleet oilers as a CIWS and as a main gun on our future patrol boats. Hope they instal it on the FREMMs too, given their experience with repeated drone attacks in the Red Sea. There also was a proposal for mounting a CTA 40 turret on a CAESAR-chassis, but it didn't go through
As we have seen in Ukraine - an autocannon can deal serious damage even to a MBT. It might not destroy it totally and kill the crew - but without sensors, optics or radios - a modern MBT isn't much more than a very, very heavy paperweight. And that Bradley Bushmaster in Ukraine was "only" 25mm. 40mm is a whole different ball game - with significantly bigger payload.
It kinda feels like they took the idea of the M3A2 Bradley CFV, removed the dismount capacity, made it french (trackless and lower armor. Not actually lighter funnily enough) and put every possible modern sensor in it. A potent autocannon, combined with a good ATGM. But with all the sensor capabilities of the modern day and a ridiculously high top speed. The perfect evolution of the armored recon concept. Also the return of the cannon-missile pairing in the french army. Took us long enough
do not criticize the JAGUAR, the fact that it is on wheels makes it faster, more maneuverable, cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, a destroyed track and the vehicle is blocked than the combat zone, a destroyed tire, the JAGUAR still rolls!! it is not a discounted cannon, it pierces at 1500 meters = 142 mm of steel, or almost all Russian BMP type armored vehicles, at 1000 meters, it pierces 152 mm of steel, or the capacity to destroy the tracks or the barrel of the cannon, or to damage all the sighting devices! there are a lot of modes with cannon, in addition to the armor piercing, it can pierce a reinforced concrete wall of 20 cm and explode behind, it can explode above a trench or a wall and kill all those hiding in it by shrapnel! it has an elevation of more than 60 ° which allows it to shoot at planes, helicopters, drones or missiles, each shell is programmed just before being fired, either in armor-piercing mode or in shrapnel! in addition, the JAGUAR has high precision, 60 shells per minute in ultra-precise mode, and 200 in less precise mode in order to stur the shooting target! and its 4 AKERON MP missiles can destroy 4 heavy tanks! the JAGUAR can roll on a flat hillside, it can lower itself completely to leave only its turret exposed, it is protected against mines or ied in order to protect the crews! effective range 4000 meters
Very interesting, thank you. A note on the German though: It is either "Kompanie, verstärkt" (Company, reinforced) or "verstärkte Kompanie" (reinforced company). The second version would be the more common way of saying it, while the first sounds very tecnical (and thus very Bundeswehr appropriate). "Verstärkt" would only be capitalized if the sentence starts with this word, like here. Wanna hear a joke? What is a "Falle, beiß, für Nagetier, grau, geländegängig" (trap, bite, for rodent, grey, all terrain capable)? Katze (cat)
to add a little something under the SGTIA organization do not underestimate the value of the observation and coordination element ,they are basically here to provide targets and intelligence to the SGTIA as well as providing fire support from artillery /air or sea units ...During manoeuvers my team send several times the whole SGTIA home early because we would have spotted and destroyed the whole column of ennemies early which usually meant we had free food and beers for the next 2 days :)
You'll still be able to enjoy them for a good while before they're all _actually_ replaced lol And even then, if I'm not misaken, those that get replaced should be sent to Ukraine, so they'll keep being useful.
Battle Order, once again you've outdone yourself with these explanations about the military structure of the armed forces and this one about the Jaguar units is one of them. I really liked especially for how organized it is.
yay a new video. Also, i think that a complete guide for Unit sizes (Platoon, Squad, Teams, Brigade, Battalion, etc.) and their symbols would be great for everyone.
The French way of doing things is certainly interesting and unique. Watching other videos on French organizations shows them putting heavy emphasis on awareness, with gun cars/light tanks paired with recon cars.
In the late 70's, our scout platoon conducted and exercise with a French Cavalry unit equipped with EBR-75's. When maneuvering toward enemy positions, we used the standard 'bounding over watch' tactic, utilizing cover and concealment. The French, on the other hand, just got up on the road and hauled ass! No stealth whatsoever! I am happy to see that they have revised their tactical doctrine regarding recon.
Thanks a lot for this high quality analysis, I honestly get my info from here as it's way more entertaining and pedagogical than the either lackluster or boring reading we get here Fun fact the 3e RH listed at 11:13 is part of the Franco-German Brigade, they were our OPFOR during a field exercice not some times ago, pretty cool dudes ! They were (at least the platoon we ambushed lol) still on AMX-10 RCR, it was awesome to do see them up close ( *really* close actually lol) Man those Jaguar kinda make me wish I was in a cavalry unit ngl
In the Canadian Army, warrant officers would not be sergeants major. They are not senior sergeants, but senior NCO's. They would be troop warrant officers in the armoured corps, platoon warrant officers in the infantry, and squadron warrants in the artillery. Master warrant officers (MWO) are typically company sergeants major (CSM) in the infantry, and squadron sergeants major (SSM) in the armoured corps, the artillery and engineers.
Unfortunately what's written in the manual isn't quite the reality, very few Escadrons have received any HK269, those that have received are limited at 2 for 4 combat Pelotons, so normally it'll be the sergeants in vbl who shoots it
I was just looking into this vehicle earlier (admittedly, because I was daydreaming about what Gaijin could add to War Thunder) It's nice to have a video about it just as it was on my mind! Looks like real estate atop that turret is in high demand so it'll be interesting to see how future modernizations go, but as it stands now it looks like an extremely advanced and capable vehicle that should help france be a lightweight and easily deployable force into the future.
I'm under the strong opinion that we're going to need entire UAS platoons in the future. It would include offensive, recon and counter-UAS forces. We can't keep using Avengers 💀💀💀
The French really hit it out of the park with the Jaguar/Griffon platform. Super innovative. It reminds me of when Cadillac Gage used the V150 chassis for like four different types of armored vehicles, including a light tank.
They have the cannon in common. I remember the Warrior IFV in ex-Yugoslavia, serious machines that made the drunken militias behave. And the lads in them were quite professional and good blokes too.
@@quakethedoombringer Ajax doesn't carry troops either? Only the Ares does. They're both recon vehicles, but the Ajax won't be in service till 2025, while French army got their first Jaguars in 2017. Sounds better to me.

Hey Battle Order I have a suggestion. Why don't you make a video explaining French military ranks? They seem different enough from traditional America/British ranks to warrant an explanation on how they work, what each rank is supposed to do and how they get promoted. Unfortunately I couldn't find much information online.
I wish we had something similar to jaguar in the US Army, closes thing I think we have is an M3 Bradley or maybe a Stryker Dragoon with no dismounts. If the M1117 was still an option maybe mount the same Dragoon turret or a Cockerill CPWS 20-25-3 05:16 I don’t get why they wouldn’t just put a 50cal on all the vbl’s (at least in a normal mount and not a turret) I know it’s probably an ammo/logistics thing. But with just a MMG it can’t engage much if needed. I know they are supposed to work as actual recon and not like the US shoot and see what shoots back, but still.
@@ombrepourpre7562 he didn’t mention that they are remote controlled. Also most of those remote control mounts can take either a MMG or 50 cal and maybe a 40mm. I know the French have their own CROW system, and I’ve seen it on a VBL, it just wasn’t shown or mentioned here.
I spent most of my career in a VBL, supporting the AMX10. Most VBLs do not have remotely operated turrets. But the vehicle is very small, 3 people. A driver, a passenger and a guy in the back who gets his legs kicked in with the backpacks and equipment. But the VBL is very quiet, and amphibious. In many exercises, we were able to get close in the vehicle to barely 150m from the "hostiles". The 7.62 machine gun that equips most of the guys is used more for self-defense than for assault. On my VBL, there was an ERYX firing position instead of the machine gun. The French army does almost all its maneuvers in SGTIA or GTIA, so we are extremely used to working with the different weapons around us. Having very few resources and a fairly small army format for our country, forces us to have a different doctrine, focused on the offensive and rapid actions. Without doubt a format inherited from the Napoleonic army corps, a set of armies including Infantry/Cavalry/Artillery/Engineers/Equipment & Transport which are autonomous but can work quickly together. This is typically what was done in Mali
Can’t wait for the new vbl replacements, basically, trading amphibious capabilities for a 4 man mini griphon that hybrid so it can go full stealth with no noise on batteries, can strafe and shoot amazing agility due to each wheel capable of independent manouver, a 7.62 or 50 cal, and built in drone nest for up 2 4 observation and designation drones plus 2 at leasr 2 akheron or loitering munitions with a posible AA mode. virtually no infrared signature ( on electric full stealth. And due to each wheel being independent huge clearance off the ground. And off course full scorpion integration. They got 2 prototypes racing for the contract, they each have different thing like the one that can straff has no atgm ect, reguardless french love thier jeeps for everything from scouting to escorts , they’ll stick them in everything, they also have your expectations of high intensity armor and mine resistance. Biggest change for th french army since switching from Famas to HK 416. It’s the last “new vehicle save for the scaf” of the scorpion project to be unveiled with it the corehaull will be finished .
Hi. Are you talking about the ARQUUS "Scarabée" VBAE : 3 ops, modular Hornet, 4WDD, V6 300cv + 100cv Li-ion, 8 tons, 130km/h...? I swear, this one is just UNBELIEVABLE !!! I would like so many of them 🤞 for the SCORPION in France, Belgium, and Luxembourg...
Serious question: why not pair the AMX-10CR with the new Jaguars as replacement to yhe VBLs with their weaker 7.62×51MM NATO/.308 machine guns, that way then the Jaguars can engage tanks and soft targets like pick ups and suicide bomb cars and the AMX-10CRs with their 105 mm F2 BK MECA L/47 medium-pressure guns can destroy APCs, IFVs, Fortifications, barriers and other things like that, giving their Recon platoons or calvary platoons a wide range of flexibility of fire support?
The AMX is an antiquated design and has seized production decades ago. The VBL is for fast scouting. If there is a tank, the Jaguar already has the ATGM. For lightly armored vehicles, the 40mm should suffice
@@quakethedoombringer KK, I just thought that if a massive gun on a car like the AMX-10CR would have good use and be a morale booster is all, thank you for clarification! :)
In reality the 40mm canon is most dangerous to 105mm for three reasons. First- Stability 2- Rafale fire. Two Bradley have destroy one T-90 with canon in rafale fire 3- Munitions is best in France. Is not comparable to OBF 105 G2
Very impressive looking vehicle. I cant help but think this would be a better solution for amoured reconnaissance than the AJAX, and with its ATGM's it has the ability to engage MBT's at significant distance.
Adj (Adjutant) is like a very experienced Sargent Major but slightly outranks that rank, but it's slightly below a lieutenant. They can feel like they got passed over a few times because they tend to be in their late 40s to early 50s.
imo, I think that the French have gone the more mobility way because they have fully aknowledged that the spear is stronger than any shield, since years ago from the experience return from the front, for years to come... so, better not be where the spear hit than to stand their ground and pray the shield hold...
It’s quite interesting that in terms of mission concept and armament the jaguar is very close to the British army Ajax platform. They even share the same cannon, though Ajax is tracked and doesn’t have an atgm launcher.
I think the Jaguar is way more reliable though. It isn't tracked, and was designed to share the chassis and most components of the Griffon and the Serval, so spare parts and maintenance should be very convenient
@@siretriste4045 no way of telling for sure until Ajax is actually operating, though it should be mentioned that Ajax and its variants will replace almost all the tracked armoured vehicles in British service so is in a similar situation with regards to spare parts.
@@immortallvulture Good point. We'll wait and see, but historically and practically tracked platforms have proved more challenging to operate than wheeled vehicles, and have always been more MRO intensive
@immortallvulture Ha yeah I remember when the British army were saying it would just replace the CVRT; and not the warrior. But the complete lack of funding and incompetent failed procurement means that its being made to do both. By the way there are only 80 ordered IFV Ajax, most of the ordered aren't even combat vehicles. So we're replacing some thousand tracked vehicles with 80.
@@matthiuskoenig3378 Not entirely true. The success of the CAESAR in Ukraine has prompted many nations to develop a similar alternative, including the US. The Eurofighter kept most of Dassault input on its final design. The Constellation class of american litoral combat ships retains 90% of the Franco-Italian FREMM design. Safran and MBDA are both responsible for many subsystems used on foreign weapon systems. And so on
The good thing for DGA, to make all the engineer (and lead projects) who draw and design French armement to have REAL field experience. They know what the soldiers need, because they have work with them, and use it in the field. Often to refit and repair team for active OP (often in Africa and Middle East. But also for joint training everywhere)
Kind of interesting they're sticking with the Hornet UAVs, especially in the context of vehicles that clearly have the space for more. If I were a backseat general I'd suggest giving them all NX70s and perhaps hold even larger types like hand-launched fixed-wing drones at the company HQ level.
Why ? The little ones are more stealthy and made to paint a bead one distant target, then kill them from security. Biger and stronger is not alway better. Goal and utility first, pretty toy second 🤔
No the VBCI is part of infantry regiments in armored brigades (the multirole brigades used to have a regiment but they converted to Griffon). AMX-10RC and Jaguar are for multirole/mountain/airborne brigades which use VAB/Griffon/Serval for infantry
I wonder if the France MOD will develop a 105mm version of the Jaguar. The 40mm is more versatile sure, but it cannot bulldoze buildings or bunkers as well as the old 105mm
The Jacuar is mainly for recon and Leclerc’s helpers, so i would think no it doesn’t have any interest to put a big canon on something that already have ATGMs and Spikes missiles

Yet the main role remain recon, Intel gattering, and only finally fast response help and fighting...
I always love when it's about the French :p

do not criticize the JAGUAR, the fact that it is on wheels makes it faster, more maneuverable, cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, a destroyed track and the vehicle is blocked than the combat zone, a destroyed tire, the JAGUAR still rolls!! it is not a discounted cannon, it pierces at 1500 meters = 142 mm of steel, or almost all Russian BMP type armored vehicles, at 1000 meters, it pierces 152 mm of steel, or the capacity to destroy the tracks or the barrel of the cannon, or to damage all the sighting devices! there are a lot of modes with cannon, in addition to the armor piercing, it can pierce a reinforced concrete wall of 20 cm and explode behind, it can explode above a trench or a wall and kill all those hiding in it by shrapnel! it has an elevation of more than 60 ° which allows it to shoot at planes, helicopters, drones or missiles, each shell is programmed just before being fired, either in armor-piercing mode or in shrapnel! in addition, the JAGUAR has high precision, 60 shells per minute in ultra-precise mode, and 200 in less precise mode in order to stur the shooting target! and its 4 AKERON MP missiles can destroy 4 heavy tanks! the JAGUAR can roll on a flat hillside, it can lower itself completely to leave only its turret exposed, it is protected against mines or ied in order to protect the crews! effective range 4000 meters

Very interesting, thank you.
A note on the German though:
It is either "Kompanie, verstärkt" (Company, reinforced) or "verstärkte Kompanie" (reinforced company). The second version would be the more common way of saying it, while the first sounds very tecnical (and thus very Bundeswehr appropriate). "Verstärkt" would only be capitalized if the sentence starts with this word, like here.

In the late 70's, our scout platoon conducted and exercise with a French Cavalry unit equipped with EBR-75's.

I wish we had something similar to jaguar in the US Army, closes thing I think we have is an M3 Bradley or maybe a Stryker Dragoon with no dismounts. If the M1117 was still an option maybe mount the same Dragoon turret or a Cockerill CPWS 20-25-3
05:16 I don’t get why they wouldn’t just put a 50cal on all the vbl’s (at least in a normal mount and not a turret) I know it’s probably an ammo/logistics thing. But with just a MMG it can’t engage much if needed. I know they are supposed to work as actual recon and not like the US shoot and see what shoots back, but still.
Because the guns are in remote control, to not expose the crew.
And yes, they are recon first. Fire support and fast response second only.
This is typically what was done in Mali
these look sick god I wish I was French 😂

And due to each wheel being independent huge clearance off the ground. And off course full scorpion integration.
They got 2 prototypes racing for the contract, they each have different thing like the one that can straff has no atgm ect, reguardless french love thier jeeps for everything from scouting to escorts , they’ll stick them in everything, they also have your expectations of high intensity armor and mine resistance.

4 jaguars supressing treeline with trenches with fragmentation ammo. 8 rounds per second. 10 seconds and all tree line is just erased..
I swear the French seem to live by the "MORE DAKKA" principle.

First- Stability
2- Rafale fire. Two Bradley have destroy one T-90 with canon in rafale fire
3- Munitions is best in France. Is not comparable to OBF 105 G2

They are part of infantry units like mountain Infantry. They are fielded at abour 25 vehicle per company slice.
I have seen them IRL, the Jaguar is more bigger than the AMX 10 RC...
imo, I think that the French have gone the more mobility way because they have fully aknowledged that the spear is stronger than any shield, since years ago from the experience return from the front, for years to come... so, better not be where the spear hit than to stand their ground and pray the shield hold...
And France prepare war in Europe and in Europe i have most route
It’s quite interesting that in terms of mission concept and armament the jaguar is very close to the British army Ajax platform. They even share the same cannon, though Ajax is tracked and doesn’t have an atgm launcher.
And it cannot go over 50kph or it cannot shoot accurately.

Kind of interesting they're sticking with the Hornet UAVs, especially in the context of vehicles that clearly have the space for more. If I were a backseat general I'd suggest giving them all NX70s and perhaps hold even larger types like hand-launched fixed-wing drones at the company HQ level.

No the VBCI is part of infantry regiments in armored brigades (the multirole brigades used to have a regiment but they converted to Griffon).
AMX-10RC and Jaguar are for multirole/mountain/airborne brigades which use VAB/Griffon/Serval for infantry
