Missing a shot from less than a meter away because your gun isnt sighted is crazy lmao.
Yeah, wtf?
The hijacking section is so strange. It comes out of nowhere, doesn’t teach police procedure, and is awfully racist, even for the time. It makes me wonder whose idea it was and why they insisted on adding it.
My guess? Padding.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure this was considered "awfully racist" for the time. The eighties and nineties were pretty disgusting in that regard, things only started to really improve in the mid-2000s.
The Big Lipped Alligator Moment!
well yeah marie is on drugs before boarding the plane, she barely survived bains, noxious gas from the sewer, sonny recalling the flight he took to rescue her was drinking and the plane almost destroyed by "bad men" - yeah, marie needs a little something-something before she even takes to the sky
Or she's a robot. She's actually the prototype for Pris, the "pleasure replicant," from Blade Runner. That would make even more sense.
Honestly Police Quest is wild for a Sierra series if you think about it.
A bunch of adventure games, an FMV adventure game with SWAT 1, a police real-time strategy game (with a full terrorist campaign of all things that I am amazed they got away with doing) with SWAT 2, Sierra somehow managing to make what is considered one of the best tactical shooters with their first shooter with SWAT 3 then SWAT 4 by irrational is also a cult classic.
That is kinda wild, yeah. I won't be looking at any of the SWAT games, though, 'cos I know I'd be just awful at them. I'm pretty awful at adventure games, too, but at least I'm somewhat comfortable playing them. 😅
@@spacequesthistorian Understandable, they require a pretty different style of game-play. (and SWAT 3/4 are definitely on the harder side of shooters, SWAT 2 is a bit of a pain to control if you're not good at memorizing keyboard shortcuts and SWAT 1 is just bad from what I see, pretty much just the tedious police procedure stuff without any of the humor or at least absurd Sierra moments)
SWAT 1 even gives you a game over for trying to skip the briefings which is absurd. (Imagine playing any other voiced Sierra game and you get slapped with a death for trying to skip the dialogue because you've seen it before.)
There is a small connection to the old PQ games in most of them at least. (Sonny is a playable character with nearly max stats in SWAT 2 and the tutorial instructor in 4 while Marie appears as a hostage in SWAT 3's obligatory bank heist mission.)
6:02 How are there 50 people on this plane? There are only 32 seats, and they aren't even filled up!
3:00 And yet not even a fraction as 'insensitive' as PQ4... But yeah, I never cared for this one much. There's something so heavyhanded about how it wants to herd the player down its plotline. I remember liking PQ3 better, although it's been years since I played it.
PQ3 was my personal favourite from the series. Up there with LSL6 as my all time sierra greats
The voice to text was so good for this series.
"Snip."
And they all lived happily ever after
3:46 got me gooood 🤣
The gun sight thing... doesn't it just make you wonder why we ever liked Sierra games? lol
Interesting mechanic for its time, sure, but so fucking tedious.
@@spacequesthistorian Of course I'm half joking, back when I played these I had a summer vacation to rot my eye sight in front of a CRT, and it wasn't such a huge ask. And Mr. Walls has committed far worse sins. Ever play Codename: Iceman? You can miss getting the wrong security ID back early in the game and it won't matter at all until the end of the game. Enjoy replaying the entire game over.
The terrorists hijacked and bombed a small commuter jet and demanded to be taken to Egypt?
If only someone had told them how fuel consumption works.
Matt Chat sent me here. Now I just gotta find out about your band too.
