Velma is so insistent on showing the bad and mean side of life, that it forgets that not everyone is a jerk or a terrible person like everyone in the show is portrayed to be.
Honestly I don't get the obsession with the show. Scooby Doo doesn't exactly have some reputation for consistent quality. If there's one thing you count on in a few years they'll be another show that may or may be good. That goes doubly for any show with a legacy because you know they'll try again.
@@TyphonJRT Well for me, Scooby-Doo is like one of my favorite shows, I know everyone doesn't love it, but it is special to me. But even if I wasn't a fan of Scooby-Doo, the show is still horrendous from it's writing, attempts at humor, and overall even trying to tell a story. And for me being a Scooby-Doo fan, it makes it all about 10 times worse.
It's not bad it feels like family guy with more gruesome detail. It's a bootleg there not trying to be on cartoon network. Scooby-Doo is trademarked so they will have to ask hanabarbera to use Scooby-Doo. Velma,Daphne,Shaggy are not trademarked. If you want a velma cartoon that is not adult themed. Then that's sign to make your owns.
@@nolanchoyou Guys can make a Velma cartoon of your own.they want more cartoons on cartoon network if someone can think of one.Homelander and Omniman are bootleg versions of superman. Blizzard even said thier characters is based off other games.
No, we don’t. If the human characters had been well written or interesting to begin with, and if the main character weren’t a coward, there wouldn’t be a Scrappy Doo.
You know what, I never hated Scrappy Doo as much as everyone else. A small puppy who isn't afraid of monsters like the rest of the gang was a cute idea. I just thought it was badly executed.
Facts. This show is so undeniably horrendous as fudge, that it makes June from Little Einsteins look and feel like a very well-mannered Queen by Comparison and in fact, even Aigis and June would be good friends with each other too and I can say the same with Max too (ya know, the one who is Goofy's son). So, in other words, it's official: Little Einsteins had someone who acts more like a matured Human Being than this variant of Velma who is actually a Villainous Protagonist than a Heroic one, meaning that if Captain Jake is the Little King of the eternally expanded Playhouse Disney/Disney Junior family, then June would be the Queen.
*Fairview Creators:* We designed the characters with no legs because we wanted them to resemble Matryoshka dolls. *The Truth:* We designed the characters with no legs because we're lazy and didn't want to animate them walking.
@agentkmr Ah, I LOVED Higglytown Heroes when I was younger! The matryoshka doll designs of the characters were very clever! Especially with Fran, the squirrel, being the smallest of them!
Someone said something interesting about the Total Drama show when Total Dramarama came out: The original show had both stereotypical character and ANTI-stereotypes. For example, Gwen was a goth girl who was actually pretty sociable. Total Dramarama has only stereotypes.
That’s one of my main, after many, negatives I have about the show. Everyone is literally the same person they were when they were teens except Gwen! They probably just thought “Oh she’s a goth on TD so let’s just make her be unsocial, creepy, weirdo child.” OG Gwen was friendly and nice to others(minus Heather), but in rama they completely ruined her character. She didn’t act like a child like the others, she acted like she was a stereotypical emo/goth teen in a child’s body.
I actually think what makes the show suck is it's the antithesis of OG TDI. None of them are teens, so no drama/relatability. It's been dumbed down meaning less character depth, less good jokes and less violence (a fun draw of the original) and most importantly it has no edge. One of the biggest draws of TDI is it was edgy and got away with some bat shit crazy content. One of the most memorable being Heather's top coming off. We were straight up given a nudity scene (it was censored) of teen girl. That right there is edge and pushing it. Then of course all the cynicism is gone too. With no drama, there's no snarky back and forth or rivalries.
What's even worst is the fart fetish within the show, to which I am NOT a fan of! And added insult to injury is the existence of a fart sniffing fairy which caused long time TD fans to rage quit. I'm pretty sure the people behind the scenes are fetishists and pedos themselves.
@@RealGilbertGan Only ONE episode was like that, and it's clear it was just an episode they didn't think through when making. No need to insult the people making the show.
The thing that bothers me the most about shows where they turn the characters into kids is that it's almost always already been established in the main show that they didn't all know each other when they were kids.
At least with Baby Looney Tunes it isn't canon to the original show. Lola was not from the original show for instance. Not even the original shorts were canon to each other, t least not all of them.
I think "tone deaf" is an understatement of the year for Santa Inc and it is flat out oblivious to the point. Santa even pointed out to Candy that she couldn't be the next Santa because she has made it abundantly clear she hates Christmas and she hates children, which the fundamentals of the job kinda require you to have a fondness for both. She takes this advice and completely dismisses it to whine about how it's about sexism that's blocking her and not the obvious fact she doesn't have any traits that would be needed to do the job properly.
Or maybe episodes when he visits his hillbilly relatives to help them with their personal problems like Clem, Billy, Billy Bob, Billy Bob Bo Bo Billy, Rainchild, etc.
Probably the most accurate description I've _ever_ heard for _Velma_ because in my opinion, _Harley Quinn_ did it right with the 18+ humor. _Velma_ though? Not so much.
To my knowledge, Kamp Koral has been confirmed to be non-canon, mostly due to Sandy Cheeks being present. In SpongeBob series proper, she had just moved to Bikini Bottom, and in fact underwater at all, in Season 1. Also, it's implied that Patrick's "parents" in the Patrick Show are paid actors, not his biological parents, due to his biological parents being established in that one episode "I'm With Stupid" and being returning characters in at least one other episode.
I wish more people acknowledge that. I am so happy that neither were considered canon. Despite the references in the main series, but you can easily argue that a version of of those spin-off events happened and not the one we saw.
In theory fans can also do what comic book writers do and say the shows are set in alternative/parallel universes. Some comic book companies, most notably DC and Marvel, have a number of different universes. One reason is to explain discrepancies. For instance, Superman was originally portrayed as working for The Daily Star and beginning his heroic career as an adult in Metropolis, but later stories portrayed him as working for The Daily Planet and beginning his heroic career as a teenager in Smallville. The writers eventually explained the discrepancies by saying, “The one Superman is from Earth-One while the other is from Earth-Two.” Another reason is to explore different ideas and possibilities without mucking up the main universe’s continuity. Marvel has its What If…? series and the Ultimate Marvel universe while DC has its Elseworlds books.
Although they did put reasoning to sandy cheeks being in Kamp Koral and that is to do with the original sandy cheeks making the child sandy go there to stop plankton from stealing the formula :)
Mindy is not completely blameless. She was Executive Producer, which means she had to review and sign off on anything related to the show. The fact that we Got Velma was either her shirking off her responsibilities as an Exec. Producer or she looked at the trainwreck and said this is gold, which says a lot about her. Probably doesn't help that most people in these positions have yes people all the time.
To be honest I’m not entirely sure how much control Executive Producers on shows have. The amount of co-producers and supervising producers and just producers in general. It looks as though they’ll give anyone a Producer credit these days.
Can I just say that she is completely oblivious to the fact that everyone was hating on that vanity project? Yes, when I mean "vanity project", I mean the Velma spin-off series itself is nothing more but a vanity project. And trust me, nobody likes a vanity project.
@@QueSeraSeraaaa Well actually, Shaggy's real name had always been Norville Rogers, so I wouldn't way he was replaced by a random character... more like that they stripped him entirely of his identity by changing his appearance and removing his more wellknown nickname, AND the great dane he owns that the _franchise is named after._ I mean, technically speaking, the other Mystery Inc members got their identity stripped away in sone fashion, but Shaggy suffered the most from this.
@@walkerphillips2818bro, remember when Strider actually talked abt it back in his old (unlisted) controversial cartoons? (I watched it, but it was a reupload!)
The voice actress behind Velma is getting hate by the public in general because she always comments about hating herself being Indian to play it off as some sort of “joke” and influence others to hate their own ethnicity as well. This hasn’t happened only in Velma, but every show she appears that features an Indian girl.
Just… remember that Mindy Kaling was responsible for Velma being written the way it was. “It’s not the actor it’s the character” doesn’t really apply when the character was developed by the actor-
One of the biggest problems with Santa Inc is that there’s already a much better alternative in Arthur Christmas. Arthur Christmas does the idea of “unlikely character proves they can become the next Santa” much better than Santa Inc, and does it in a way that’s not incredibly mean-spirited, gross, and/or vulgar. It also has a character realize that maybe they’re not cut out to be Santa, and that’s ok, they can still help bring joy to the world in their own special way- which I feel like is the lesson Santa Inc’s main character needed to learn, but sadly the show just continued to double down on its shallow edginess.
Not only that, much of the Jokes are not actually funny in Santa Inc, but are thinly veiled jabs at people who actually ask questions about mainstream narratives rather than follow it like lost puppies.
I remember when UA-cam was FILLED with videos of people talking about their HATE of the show, Velma. Like, I couldn't even get through a day on UA-cam without seeing the thumbnail for a Velma Rant video. There were so many, I was like, "No, I'm not doing this." The website was literally recommending all these Velma Rant videos to me, even though I already knew Velma was going to bomb. It was exhausting!
@@phantomstrider Well, I admit you make a fair point. But personally, I only watched the trailer and the pilot episode and I immediately got ticked off. I instantly switched over to something that makes me feel happy and excited: a Japanese superhero tv series that's been around for over 50 years called Kamen Rider, and I automatically felt better. The message that I'm trying to get across is If we just ignore the bad movies, tv shows and cartoons, they'll eventually fade into obscurity, forgotten by the passing sands of time.
@@phantomstrider Well, she did commit a crime, a very serious one, which she treats as a joke. But that crime is not "Making Velma". (Unless it turns out Velma is some The Producers inspired embezzlement scheme where the show was incredibly bad on purpose.)
I hate the "it's for kids, it doesn't need to be intelligent" excuse for bad writing and whatever in cartoons, because I think kids deserve more respect than that.
Honestly I would argue that if you kids are watching something that teaches them to be more immature is worse bc we need to teach kids to be more mature and if kids watch this and use it as dialogue in their life then we know we screwed up in society
seeing strider doing a sort of revisit of his old worst cartoons list with this one is so refreshing. hes so much calmer and grounded here than he was in the old one!
it's nice seeing how many cartoon youtubers have been mellowing out over the years. i feel like strider was a little bit ahead of the curve on that too, his channel has been super chill for years now
A pup named scooby doo was an exception to the "kids spinoffs suck" rule in my opinion because it still had them doing what made them famous in the first place (solving mysteries) and although it was softer in tone, it didn't feel watered/dumbed down, at least not nearly as much as others.
There were also a live-action when they were in high-school, and frankly? Like the show where they're kids, the movie worked also, it wasn't that bad to the movie where Scrappy-Doo was a villain who collected people's souls..
I remember when I still had DirecTV and I would watch A Pup Named Scooby Doo in the morning on Boomerang, and honestly, I wasn't bored watching it. I got pretty interested in the storylines and thought the designs of the characters were clever and cute, which is unusual for me to think when it comes to the "same show except the characters are all kids" cookie-cutter premise.
I haven't watched Santa Inc., but from what I've seen, the show approach on comedy is... make everyone swear. This worked in the early 90s because it was new, but it no longer works after around 30 years. But my bigger problem is hypocricy. I've noticed a trend in the clips I watched that everytime a man is abused in a way, it is treated like a joke, but everyone treats the situation different when the female is abused and the tone is serious then. I hate when movies presents serious social issues, but also have double standards. In case of abuse is seen as bad only if the female is the victim.
I love the Steve Reviews video on it, sums up everything wrong about it perfectly. Also talks about the one good scene in it and how they fucked that up too lmao
I missed your top 10 lists about animated shows. It’s really cool to see you talk about some of these new shows that have come out recently and hear your opinion on them. This has always been my favorite content on your channel.
That’s actually kind of surprising, a lot of the worst shows for kids seems to forget that everyone can be a little mean but it doesn’t make us mean people, while some of the worst shows aimed at teens and adults forget that people can be nice without being gullible or dumb, and the best shows on both ends have far more complex characters with both good and bad socializing skills.
I got a theory: Patrick's real parents never really loved him for being unintelligent, and his parents sent him to Kamp Koral to abandon him, that being the reason Patrick was crying on the log about being homesick in the movie. Also, with Patrick now being an orphan, he is then adopted, being the reason why in the Patrick Star show, Patrick's parents look nothing alike to the ones in the main show, and how Patrick's sister is a literal squid.
I really wish that was canon, because that's a really good story. The canonical story, however, is that Patrick's family in the Patrick Star Show are all actors, and not his real family, similarly to how in sitcoms, families in shows are almost always never related in real life.
I can't even say Fairview's character design is original. An old Disney preschool show called Higglytown Heroes did the stacking dolls (not even gonna try and spell that) design and actually integrated it well into the setting and movements!
No, it doesn’t. You’re just regurgitating yt h3t g-nt-l- m@13 supremacist propaganda to rack up Internet hate points. *Velma* rules and that dumb dog and his equally dumb family drools!
Always love it when you talk Cartoons Strider! I know you can’t do them all the time but it’s lovely to see them occasionally Edit: I wouldn’t feel sorry for Mindy, she had a massive hand in Velma, while not the sole decision maker she helped contribute a lot of what didn’t work to the show
While I think that the backlash for the two SpongeBob Spinoffs were overblown in hindsight, I wholehartedly agree that the backlash for some of these shows are 100% justified.(COUGHVELMACOUGH!)
Now SOMEBODY agrees with me! What I think of these two crappy spinoffs for myself is that it's a spit to Hillenburg's memory, continuity from the main series has been literally thrown out of the window, and, finally, Nickelodeon milking on that kitchen sponge even after Steve's passing! This also causes for other good shows with potentials to meet their OWN demise!
One particular modern cartoon that was really hated was Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go. The very moment the show was announced back in 2020, during the 75th anniversary of The Railway Series, the Thomas fandom was pissed. Seeing the most iconic character in British literature history be turned into a literal kid was lambasted. Even the whole thing with complete disregard of railway regulations and how some parts of Sodor became a literal playground. And when the show launched in 2021, there was some news articles saying it’s “haunting to look at”. People just hated it. The animation looking bog standard and some of the characters (Who are steam engines) breaking regulations and even going off the tracks. But as the show went on, people actually saw some things they liked (James being a funny character, the child actors were actually good, and getting Neil Crone to reprise the role of Gordon from Magic Railroad (And later on Eddie Glenn (Thomas’ VA in Magic Railroad) to voice Toby)) and now some Thomas fans have accepted the show. Even me, someone who grew up with the model series, have to say that All Engines Go was something I dreaded, to something I accepted.
She's not credited as one of the creators, but she's the executive producer and was the one talking the most in interviews about how this show would be about her idealized version of Velma
Velma… was written… by Mindy… she knew what she was doing, most of this was her doing. I don’t feel bad for her because she literally chose for the show to be written the way it was
Santa Inc's ending just feels awful. Santa made a perfect statement for Candy to work along with her opponent in the Santa business, it sounded reasonable and could work, but she just said Santa to eff himself and left, showing that she was probably all in it for herself, not even to make a good business.
As for the whole South Park thing. as much as it encourages people who have that apatheitic nihilistic mindset to politics, the show isn't apathetic or saying it's lame to care. They more seem to be mocking those who take their beliefs too far or contradict themselves. There are episodes where you can tell they do care about the subject of the episode, otherwise they wouldn't even feel the need to talk about it. To me it's more on those "apolitical" edgelords for not understanding what Matt and Trey are actually saying.
@@koichidignitythief7429 thank you, a lot of people only focus on how crazy the show is and don’t even pay attention to their underlying meanings. It’s a little annoying because they’ve come so far and said so much but haven’t been silenced nor taken advantage of by the media. They deserve way more credit
Velma undercut every attempt at emotion or character development with a bad joke that made everyone look like a self centetered jerk. The only thing this show tried to do was undermine itself at every turn. Also, Mindy deserves NO SYMPATHY. This was her idea, and her track record speaks volumes. I'm guessing you never heard of her talk on Conan about how she got away with sexual harassment.
Yo Strider, just letting you know that Mindy is the executive producer of Velma and the one of the writers of the series. It was meant to be based off of Mindy’s experiences and the “origins” of the gang, so she is in fact the one to blame. I love your work btw! Just wanted to give you a heads up.
Okay The Patrick Star Show, you did it. You've officially gained mainstream now. The Patrick Star Show has just been sitting there, quietly chilling in the background for the past 2 years since July 9, 2021, obviously not gaining anywhere near the amount of attention as the main SpongeBob SquarePants show. But then all of a sudden the episode "Bubble Bass Reviews" premiered on July 24, 2023 and now finally The Patrick Star Show has an episode gaining mainstream attention due to the episode's blatant references to internet culture and the good old Nostalgia Critic. A man that PhantomStrider has collaborated with multiple times. Some of these cartoon reviewers are really going places these days, huh? It's funny too because back in the day, people insisted to me that the main SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon had two episodes that were vaguely referencing social media. Specifically "The Krabby Kronicle" (cancel culture) and "Bulletin Board" (Twitter/X). But despite these claims, neither of those episodes got mainstream attention when they premiered or in any of the years since. Most likely because both "The Krabby Kronicle" and "Bulletin Board" are vaguely social media themed without having any characters actually use the internet or computers in both episodes, except for a printing press. I like how it took until the spin-off Patrick Star Show to make an internet/social media episode within the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise to get actual mainstream attention. Like I've said before about being more direct with its references, The Patrick Star Show episode "Bubble Bass Reviews" actually has Bubble Bass using a computer and directly wearing clothes that parody an internet personality. There you go internet critics that caught the attention of this episode. Bubble Bass is using the internet to voice his reviews, just like you critics out there using the internet to respond to this very episode.
I think "The Krabby Kronicle" was more of an attack on yellow journalism and tabloids, both of which have been around for over a century while the Bulletin Board was about "boards", which were parts of websites where users could talk about various topics. Think of it like Reddit before Reddit was even a thing.
I saw a few reviews for the Thundercats Roar 2020. One of them had a father with his 7-year-old daughter watching the promo. She said it was "hardly silly" and "not possible" when asked by her dad if she would watch it. You know it's bad when your target audience says it's impossible to watch the actual show based on solely the promo.
At some point I remember watching the show and Mumm-ra yells “NO YOU BOOBS” and my mom looks at me like “Ava… what are you watching?” And then she realized that I was watching a kids show and she was like “Oh. He shoulda said noobs. Not… that.”
I have a soft spot for Kamp Koral You see, last year at Comic Con I met Tom Kenny And I sang the entire Kamp Koral theme song without forgetting a single word
@@thesupervideogamenerdmore3171 Well Tom Kenny sang the Kamp Koral theme song so of course he would know for the lyrics for it. SpongeBob SquarePants Theme Song is memorable, but ironically none of the main cast members or main characters sing that theme song. Half the time I forget Patrick Pinney is a SpongeBob cast member because when the heck do you hear his voice outside of the theme song or Painty the Pirate related roles? Not very often. The cool fish and scoutmaster in "Your Shoe's Untied," fish #1, zookeeper, and security guard in "The Smoking Peanut," and Mr. Krabs voice in SpongeBob SquarePants Typing video game are the only SpongeBob Patrick Pinney roles I could find that don't involve him voicing Painty the Pirate, the theme song, or a recreate of the theme song.
I actually like Kamp Koral. And I wouldn't mind seeing a well written action/comedy cartoon adaption of the Spongebob Mysteries books as they're actually funny and decent mysteries.
Once again the Owl House has a sumilar vibe to High Guardian Spice but done right. Its amazing what good writing can do to a project (surprising isnt it?)
Yeah, when i watch velma, the biggest thing that hits me in the face is the racism both to Misty's own self insert (that's the only reason Velma is Indian) and black people, white people, Asians and plenty more at least it spreads the hate semi evenly
There’s a theory that Velma was made intentionally abysmally, to generate publicity. That’s why they said it was our fault that it was getting a season 2. It was a plot for attention
The segment about Velma gave me an idea. Imagine a show where just about every character is spiteful, shallow, snarky, and arrogant, except for like 2 or 3 characters who feel genuine love and care, and are simply doing what they can to find a suitable place to live and grow, or maybe even make the world a little better.
What makes it worse for Thundercats roar, one of the creators admitted that they hated the original Thundercats, obviously meaning that said creator probably just wants to ruin Thundercats for the poor fans
The shower scene alone was pointless because it was about making commentary on contemporary trends by playing it straight as the punchline because fourth wall digs are funny logic. You’ve had a character say pilots use gratuitous nudity in the pilot by a character with only shower steam to cover her modesty, is the joke she’s doing the thing she’s remarking on? Because people have been pointing out shows like Riverdale using physical fanservice for years before this show was made, it’s not a groundbreaking gag.
I actually don’t mind the Patrick star show. It serves as an outlet for the writers to experiment with different stories, ideas and animation styles. It’s not for everyone but it feels like they are experimenting with the characters
Same. i feel like the Patrick show was got way too much backlash than it deserved really. And alot of it seems to stem from people trying to put words into the late Mr.Hillenberg's mouth.
Another fantastic video! I love how you involved one of your older videos! Very creative and interesting! As far as “Velma” goes, your wife said it best, “It’s just mean.” I use cartoons as an escape, but no one wants to escape from our world (which is often more than mean enough) to hang out in an even crueler fictional universe.
An adult Scooby-Doo show COULD be interesting, but Velma seriously went overboard in being hateful and edgy. It felt like every second of this show was a middle finger to everything related to Scooby-Doo in the past.
Indeed. Honestly, the basic Scooby Doo formula adjusted a bit to more target adult audience could be a good thing, if properly written/executed. Mystery Incorporated had something of a right idea for this, but skewed a bit still to some "what were the writers thinking" moments. Season 1 Velma there kinda rubs people the wrong way when she tries the "me or the dog" thing and gets a very real world response. But then, everyone treats Shaggy like dirt, rather than calling her out on the obvious "jerk move". Minor nags asside, it's actually a rather nice take on the the premise. And something similar but ratcheted up a few notches into being more targeted to adults could really work well. It could well be something that would help people forget that "Velma" as a show exists.
That’s why it is the only good thing to ever come out of this rotten franchise. That middle finger was justified as payback for everything it has done to perpetuate the lie that animation is just for children. The Sinatrasong-Shitdog show represents everything wrong with animation since Walt Disney died, Termite Terrace closed, and Hanna-Barbera sold out to Taft Broadcasting. Watch pre-1967 H-B cartoons. They mop the floor with it. Even *Pixie and Dixie* held up better! *Velma* is the only good thing to come out of this show ever, and all the hate directed towards it says nothing about the show and everything about its racist misogynistic haters.
As soon as I saw the ad for Velma on UA-cam, my first thought was "This is just gonna be some woke political dumpster fire isn't it?" And as such I never gave it the time of day. I didn't even need to. The reviews I've seen floating around are enough to tell me my assumption was more right than I was anticipating.
Hey Strider, Mindy also developed the character of Velma, too. I have come to believe it was a show made to just pull for attention to those who hate cartoons and those who enjoy them. It was all just plain mean-spirited nonsense, crying for attention
Seeing Strider talking about cartoons again gave so much nostalgic feelings from his 2016 and 2017 videos. I’m glad to see how his content evolve a lot, and I love these kinds of videos like this once in a while! Great video Strider!
Same. The first video I ever watched was Top 10 Worst Animated Movies of All Time and I've been watching almost every single Top 10 list back in 2016. Really wished he made Top 5 Best Italian Cartoons, Top 5 Worst Spanish Cartoons, Top 5 Best Spanish Cartoons and Top 5 Best French Cartoons. It's obvious he did those lists on his other channel, LiveStrider but I doubt he uses that channel anymore.
I love how you compared these cartoons to the original worst of all time to see how they hold up, Strider. This video, as a whole, really took me back. And it’s awesome to see how much has changed since 7 years ago.
I had no idea Strider nowadays isn't particularly fond of South Park. Like how I don't really like The Loud House and SVTFOE nowadays even though I used to like them years ago.
It’s funny how some “kids shows” are more intelligent, introspective, and mature than most adult animated shows. But, some cartoons on nick or CN have been all noise and no substance too. Everyone is entitled to like what they like, but it’s often the well-written, and thought out cartoons that are remembered by both children and adults. For example, my siblings and our Mom both liked Scooby Doo, SpongeBob, and Danny Phantom. Because they weren’t just flashy shows with well-written jokes, there was a little more insight into the themes and messages they explored. Or, they were simply just that entertaining to both adults and kids. Scooby Doo had a nice formula of solving mysteries and teaching viewers about problem solving and critical thinking, while shows like SpongeBob were witty in their humor, making for memorable episodes in its “golden age”.
Velma is high end art: how do you piss off the right and the left so much that they mutually agree to hate something? That is talent. For me I blind watched it and couldn't make it through 5 minutes of the show because all Velma did was references to other shows and I was asking if she was going to do something interesting or copy better media and pretend she's very smart for doing so?
38:05: Mindi wanted to play as Velma, she was one of the creators of the show and is part of the reason why the show failed. Make no mistake, she wasn't picked for this role, she wanted it as an outlet for her political views...
She wanted to make her own self-insert show but didn't know how to advertise it so she put Scooby Doo characters in it to draw in an audience. That's why Scooby Doo isn't even in it and the entire premise has nothing to do with "scary mysteries" and is just a vehicle for making fun of politics.
The Patrick Show reminds me of how the Rev. W. Awdry predicted how Thomas & Friends would turn out: “Once the Americans get hold of it, they will vulgarise and ruin it.”
Yeah, but I would say that even if Patrick is SpongeBob's best friend I think that the title of second most important character in the show belongs to Squidward.
@@NightCloudII love Patrick he’s my favorite character in SpongeBob with the best one liners but a squidward show would have been better. I feel there could’ve been more done if they gave him a show not like those casual Pat haters for Hayden for being done I never got that he was always the most entertaining character as a kid and as an adult some of the jokes are even funnier now, but Squidward character just seems perfect for his own spin off show, and Patrick, as much as I love him is a side character to SpongeBob, where I feel like Squidward is is more own flushed out character and would’ve made a good show
happy to see Strider making a cartoon focused video again (nothing against the recent stuff, I just remember his old videos fondly). Here's hoping for another video soon where he can talk more positively about recent animation since I always feel like he has a hard time being negative about stuff.
He’s matured quite a bit and even has a wife now. While his old videos are funnier than the ones he makes now, it would be disingenuous for him to be constantly infuriated like an Australian IHE. His videos are more like real reviews now than just roasting the show
I feel like Total Dramarama also take away the world building of the show. Weird complaint, I know but I always liked how the contestants were from different places. Here it feels weird because apparently they all knew each other since childhood and came from the same town.
Don't feel bad for Mindy in Velma, it's her own show. She chose to have Velma and all the other characters be this unlikeable. She was even being an ass about negative opinions on the show lol
Unironically, the animation of Velma isn’t that bad it’s actually pretty good but the fact that the show is absolute garbage makes it feel a lot more worse than it already is and I feel bad for the people who animated this as it genuinely doesn’t look that bad
The testament to a good show is that it has something appealing to everybody. That involves coherent writing, good animation, and VAs who have a genuine passion for the material.

@thesupervideogamenerdmore3171 yeah every now and again you get a good animated movie, a good streaming movie or show, anything that Adult Swim has made recently, any anime movie or show, or a good animated youtube short.
Don't forget Cartoon Network rejecting every show that isn't a comedy for little kids. That's why the PG-rated My Adventures With Superman is on Adult Swim.

Okay, Not gonna lie, Robyn's IDGAF rap was hilarious! As for the rest of the shows, I really hate it when creators have the mindset of: "We don't need to put effort into our shows, because kids are stupid." To borrow a quote from Linkara: "Just because something is made for children, doesn't mean it can't still be sophisticated." And I wish more people making kids shows would learn this, and stop dumbing their shows down!
Strider if you look more into Mindy Kaling she's actually more spiteful of attacking the fans especially self-inserting herself into any project she is attached to
Instead of the Patrick Show, they could have made a show about Sandy doing science stuff in her treedome, accidentally causing an unseen potential catastrophe, then having to fix it in some weird way while trying to hide it from the other residents of Bikini Bottom. Kinda like Phineas & Ferb but with lower stakes.
The only thing I don't hate about Velma is that the show introduced more people to Mystery Incorporated, a far funnier, more serious, better written show, despite the fact it has a younger target audience
I really like all of the effort you put into this video. Down to the little details like the Animal Crossing cutaways during the Velma review. I enjoy your editing style and narrative as always!

Velma and High Guardian Spice have made me realize how I can become a better writer than ANYONE on their shows and even then, my first draft will me 5 million better than anything put in them!
Yeah both of these shows are great tools for writers to understand everything they shouldn’t do when making a story or frankly anything they wish to be seen as even slightly good/entertainment
The problem with Velma is that the Scooby-Doo franchise is above all about solving mysteries, and Velma fails on this score. Part of the appeal of new versions of the show is seeing what they do in service of setting up mysteries for Mystery Inc to solve, be it adding in genuine supernatural elements, putting a 21st century spin on things, crossovers from other franchises, a more serialised narrative etc. Velma’s spin is that she’s the focus character and she’s a bitch to everyone whilst simultaneously expecting respect while alienating people. Gravity Falls did mystery better than Velma did!
PSS is probably going to be the least "despised" on the list. It suffers from something similar to what Fanboy and Chum Chum suffered from. In which it's despised now but will be remembered more fondly in the future as it was nowhere near as bad as we remembered nor was as bad as it's contemporaries.
Velma, in her own show, is very unlikable that she made Scrappy Doo of all people looking like a saint.

I find it pretty amusing how Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated, a show for kids, is more mature than Velma, a show for adults.
Adults shows are more immature than that of children cartoons.

Someone said something interesting about the Total Drama show when Total Dramarama came out:
The original show had both stereotypical character and ANTI-stereotypes.

I once described "Velma" as "Let's take everything that makes Harley Quinn work and do the complete opposite.".
Or alternatively, the Earth-3 for Scooby-Doo.
I was confused by why Sandy was there, then now you explained it, well, thank you.
"Kitchen Sponge" is the episode your looking for then.
Yeah Velma was one of Mindy's vanity projects that utterly insults Scooby Doo.
To be honest I’m not entirely sure how much control Executive Producers on shows have. The amount of co-producers and supervising producers and just producers in general. It looks as though they’ll give anyone a Producer credit these days.
The show Velma even replaced Shaggy Rogers, a character that was there for decades too, for a random character..
Can I just say that she is completely oblivious to the fact that everyone was hating on that vanity project? Yes, when I mean "vanity project", I mean the Velma spin-off series itself is nothing more but a vanity project. And trust me, nobody likes a vanity project.
@@QueSeraSeraaaa Well actually, Shaggy's real name had always been Norville Rogers, so I wouldn't way he was replaced by a random character... more like that they stripped him entirely of his identity by changing his appearance and removing his more wellknown nickname, AND the great dane he owns that the _franchise is named after._

I haven't watched Santa Inc., but from what I've seen, the show approach on comedy is... make everyone swear. This worked in the early 90s because it was new, but it no longer works after around 30 years.

I don't think Mindy should write for shows ever again after she took a massive shit on a beloved character.
As a Scooby fan I’m insulted by that implication. No where near enough quotations.
Good point
I got a theory: Patrick's real parents never really loved him for being unintelligent, and his parents sent him to Kamp Koral to abandon him, that being the reason Patrick was crying on the log about being homesick in the movie. Also, with Patrick now being an orphan, he is then adopted, being the reason why in the Patrick Star show, Patrick's parents look nothing alike to the ones in the main show, and how Patrick's sister is a literal squid.
And so, this Theory would work like a Glove of sorts.
I really wish that was canon, because that's a really good story. The canonical story, however, is that Patrick's family in the Patrick Star Show are all actors, and not his real family, similarly to how in sitcoms, families in shows are almost always never related in real life.
If this was the actual Patrick star show it would kinda be interesting

Yo Strider, just letting you know that Mindy is the executive producer of Velma and the one of the writers of the series. It was meant to be based off of Mindy’s experiences and the “origins” of the gang, so she is in fact the one to blame. I love your work btw! Just wanted to give you a heads up.
Gotcha :) I've been told a few times and cut out that particular part of the review, not realising. Thanks for the heads up though!
Recently the Patrick star show did an episode where bubble bass was an over the top online critic and he was even wearing Doug Walkers iconic suit
I heard of that.
BUILD THAT WALL
Please tell me there was a Lindsay Ellis or Jew Wario. The stuff that happened over that was insane.
Not… that.”
@@Just_Ava_HereBoobs is another word for morons.

I have a soft spot for Kamp Koral
You see, last year at Comic Con I met Tom Kenny
And I sang the entire Kamp Koral theme song without forgetting a single word
Yeah Kamp koral kinda doesn’t deserve the hate in my book..
Why do you two have a soft spot for that lame retconning shit? Besides the theme song
@@gamingcharactersletsplays5384It's just getting hate from Nick going against Stephen Hillenberg the second he died.
Velma is basically the definition of bringing a racist Twitter user on to write the show.
I would prefer that because sometimes racist Twitter users racism is amusing if it's the right kind of stupidity.
Maybe they can hire that Black female teacher from Texas to write season three.
Yeah, when i watch velma, the biggest thing that hits me in the face is the racism both to Misty's own self insert (that's the only reason Velma is Indian) and black people, white people, Asians and plenty more at least it spreads the hate semi evenly
Or WOKE. As if it's any excuse for the dumb creators to be incompetent to even begin with.
There’s a theory that Velma was made intentionally abysmally, to generate publicity. That’s why they said it was our fault that it was getting a season 2. It was a plot for attention
It was actually always gonna get a season 2
You know what that's called? CRIMINAL INTENT!
They better make Season 2 a masterpiece, then.
@@thesupervideogamenerdmore3171 you presume too much from these people
I like your profile picture riff. I love My singing monsters.
Doesn’t South Park already do that with Butters and a handful of other characters? 🤔
Smiling Friends (maybe?)
@@KathySage234 I still need to watch that show
What makes it worse for Thundercats roar, one of the creators admitted that they hated the original Thundercats, obviously meaning that said creator probably just wants to ruin Thundercats for the poor fans
It worked
@@Emily-cw7tj You're not wrong, not even close to wrong
The worst part of Velma was that it's supposed to be set in high school and the 1st episode had a shower scene that felt uncomfortable considering.
Same here. I prefer seeing that spinoff over "Kamp Koral".
I'm mixed on it. Least the Patrick Star show can be weirdly endearing. Especially Squidina! She's adorable!
I would say the show should at least respect Stephen Hillensburg's wish's considering it's based off of his show.
That’s not going to happen. Velma exists, it rules, and it is the only good thing to come out of this wretched franchise ever.
@@AttmayStop saying lies.
Imagine already hating Scooby Doo and watching Velma 😂
Oh no
Mother of mercy
At least it made all of us go back and watch the better versions of the Scooby Gang
Oh yeah I forgot about that XD
I say the Scooby-Doo series is way better than the new season of Velma come on they could have made a series about a dog not a nerd
"Comedy reliefs don't need spinoffs"
Minions, Duck Tales, Wario Land, and Goofy Movie at Strider's door:
Minions sucked
Its very telling when cartoons made for kids are more mature than "adult cartoons".
The Patrick Show is like Planet Sheen, spinoffs about comic reliefs that just end up being a bit too much
I love how you compared these cartoons to the original worst of all time to see how they hold up, Strider.
YES. Its so great to see strider reviewing a variety of cartoons again!
I almost pissed my pants as soon as I saw this video come up.
It’s great to see Strider go back to some of his old roots, and even if it’s different, it’s still the same? Keep it up!
Why i'm not surprised?
She wanted to make her own self-insert show but didn't know how to advertise it so she put Scooby Doo characters in it to draw in an audience.
That's why Scooby Doo isn't even in it and the entire premise has nothing to do with "scary mysteries" and is just a vehicle for making fun of politics.
The Patrick Show reminds me of how the Rev. W. Awdry predicted how Thomas & Friends would turn out: “Once the Americans get hold of it, they will vulgarise and ruin it.”
Its like Cold War technology.
If someone somewhere gets ahold of it besides the original owner, chances are its gonna be bungled up.
To be fair Strider, Patrick is Spongebob’s best friend, so he technically is the most important character on the show that isn’t Spongebob.
His videos are more like real reviews now than just roasting the show
Not only that, but a cartoon related video that isn't just 100% focused on Spongebob. When was the last time we got one of those?
I feel like Total Dramarama also take away the world building of the show. Weird complaint, I know but I always liked how the contestants were from different places. Here it feels weird because apparently they all knew each other since childhood and came from the same town.
It's a non-canon spin-off set in an AU.
I actually thought it was ok
I think we all owe Scrappy Doo the biggest apology ever.
Especially Tim Curry for rejecting a role in the 2002 film because of Scrappy.

Are you kidding? This is the only time the characters have even been tolerable. Long liVELMA!
I've never met a fan IRL of it, & I can't imagine how miserable an experience that would be...
High guardian spice is such a huge rabbit hole that even asking one question about the show would break it entirely
I was clapping and laughing when this so-called "Velma" character got hit by a car.

Okay, Not gonna lie, Robyn's IDGAF rap was hilarious!
As for the rest of the shows, I really hate it when creators have the mindset of: "We don't need to put effort into our shows, because kids are stupid."
To borrow a quote from Linkara: "Just because something is made for children, doesn't mean it can't still be sophisticated."
And I wish more people making kids shows would learn this, and stop dumbing their shows down!

Of all the spin-offs for Spongebob I would have loved to see, I'd have liked to see one about Sandy's life in Texas.
Or better they should make a spinoff show on squidward.
Sadly, Velma IS being renewed for a second season. Maybe this time, we'll just ignore it and it will go away.
The only thing I don't hate about Velma is that the show introduced more people to Mystery Incorporated, a far funnier, more serious, better written show, despite the fact it has a younger target audience
Nah, I dunno about that, Velma didn’t really have an audience, so, I don’t know if we can say the audience was younger or older
Yes, the show does have an audience, and we are sick and tired of being bullied, gaslit, and told that we don’t actually exist.
Mystery incorporated is not even funny.

@phantomstrider The entire list is really well done but Velma just pisses people off too much.
i really love the idea of comparing this list to the worst cartoons list! i would’ve liked to have seen each show go against the show of the same placement but the route you decided to go in is also satisfactory, plus i don’t think these lists are THAT ordered. i would love to see more of this kind of thing if you can!
Strider: Velma is so hated! It will never get a season 2!
HBO Max: Yeah about that...
Mindy wasn't given Velma, she wanted Velma. This Velma, is basically Mindy's self-insert
PSS is probably going to be the least "despised" on the list. It suffers from something similar to what Fanboy and Chum Chum suffered from. In which it's despised now but will be remembered more fondly in the future as it was nowhere near as bad as we remembered nor was as bad as it's contemporaries.
Something that I find funny is that Velma and Daphne are on the Villains Wiki
