It's also beyond me how this watch doesn't get more love in the watch community, it looks absolutely stunning. Like a prop from a sci-fi movie from the 80's :)

I had the 55 once. Loved it. The back light is one of the best looking among gshocks and it also has auto light which is very fast to activate.
Just bought the 55 today, got no experience with gshock before, I needed to watch this to reassure myself that I bought the nice one! Thanks!

Already own a DW-D5500-BB-1 since a year now..however just saw this review and comparison on UA-cam...one of the best, more objective, no nonsense review and comparison I feel. Buy one and it will last a lifetime with Class(not flashy) look, practical buttons and complete watch. By complete I meant with the world time too for those travelling you have all time zones covered.. For all else there are smart phones now...

This is my favourite Casio G-Shock watch and one of the best looking watch ever made (not only in quartz category)!
Look and design are perfect!
It is so much better than any 5600...

This watch encapsulates what a G Shock really is in my mind. A no nonsense tool. Like a hammer, knife or gun. The inscription on the strap says what it exactly is. An alarm chronograph. Nothing more, nothing less. That's one tough, basic, masculine timekeeper. I'm gonna get one.
Yes, this is a very nice model. Right up there with all the classic squares and 6900s.
But one thing I find weird is, this was introduced as the first mud resistant G-Shock. But presently it is not marketed as such, even in Casio website. Why do you think that is?
@@Thatguy-nd7fn Maybe they haven’t started to heavily market this model yet. The 5600/5000 squares are definitely more popular.

Damn. This was the best review for a G-shock i have seen in a long time.
Autolight function also. Best feature EVER!! But ...I have to confess. I put a screen protector on every single G-square. Is there something wrong with me✌️✌️

I know some friends who put screen protectors on their G-Shocks. Actually seems like a good idea but not sure if they make one for every model. I’m just too lazy to do that.😹

Thanks for posting this, it's a good find. I strongly prefer the pushers and that display. Here in Japan they dell at a 10-15% premium over the 5600.

The most beautiful Casio G-Shock ever made!
Mine arrived 2 weeks ago, this is my second 5500. My first was GLX-5500A-4 (red with orange buttons)which i really like and still use(battery is at its 10th year too) Really enjoyed the review especially considering that you're a local :) Keep it up man! Say hello to George!

@@AndyinSG yup, you said it! coming from someone who's used to bigger round g-shocks, I find (still do) DW5600 series a little too small while 5500 size is just right.

JarnBjorn And to add on the good news, Casio always underpromise the battery life. So we could probably get more than 10 years of juice from this.
I think this watch has the automatic light on when you flick the wrist in the dark (A.EL). Another positive of the watch. Nice review.

I prefer the buttons on 5500 as they are bigger and easier to use but the band is too wide and also the band keeper doesn't go all the way up if you have small wrist
You’re right about the buttons. I guess most Gshock bands are too long for smaller wrists but perhaps the width of the strap on the 55 makes it more evident. Either way, these 5500/5600/6900 series watches are just cool.

Handy Ndy No confirmation if it’s due to different batteries. The 5500 uses CR2025 while the basic 5600 uses CR2016. I have seen a 5600 model that has a 10yr battery. I think that’s a DW-D5600.

I would love to see this model with a total woodland camo pattern that connects and blends across the entire watch, bezel and strap.
That might just happen one day. They have new colourways coming out every month.
I have 2 each of the DW-D5500MR rescue orange models. The reasons they don’t get much love is the pushers and the clunky design. It’s like they were trying to make a mini square Mudman. The pushers are horrendously awkward and finicky to engage and you’re getting a tiny display for all that real estate.
I think you’re right about the buttons. But the larger buttons does make it easier to access when compared to the 5600’s little round buttons. I guess it really depends on which models you’re comparing.

DW-5500BB-1 is my most favorite G-shock of all. Btw. Does anyone know if there are fitting bullbars for the DW-5500? Just like DW-5600 bullbars fit on AE-1200/AE-1300.

How about legibility? Do you experience any instances where you can't or have a hard time reading the screen?
It is not too bad. Do bear in mind that this is negative display so it isn’t as legible as positive display.
@@AndyinSG Right I understand. I gather from the photos that this G-Shock's negative display might be more legible than many of the other negative screen versions out there. Perhaps a comparison of other G-Shock watches with negative displays to this would make for a good video?
@@greenjihad3390 It is definitely more legible due to the larger digits. It’s also much clearer, which I think is due to the gold-against-black LCD.

I'm confused between the amazfit bip s and this square g shock. Both have asskicking design though the bip s is a smartwatch. Which one to go for?
I guess it really depends on what you need.

I got my 55 today but there's a misalignment, the left side module is sinking a little but noticeable. I like the watch very much but I am returning it don't think I'll order it again because Casio india won't do replacement only refund so don't want to go through the ordering process and end up with the same issue.
That’s a shame really. I sure hope you find a good piece. The 5500 all black is really a great G.

Is it me or is the negative display on the 55 brighter and clearer than the 56?
Dhary Al Rasheed I think the reflections on the 56 during the filming made it look that way. In the flesh, both displays have about the same brightness.

Thanks to your channel and others for reviving the adoration I had for these lovely timepieces. I lament the fact I was unaware of the lovely G7800B. But I will continue the hunt. Over Price I would say the buttons on the 5500 are easier to press than 5600.

It's like Fiat 500 vs Fiat 126: basically were the same car, but It was not possible to improve the almost perfect design of the 500

Ok I'm not so sure about 10 yr life.. mines about 6 yrs and the light is no longer strong enough to read at night.. rest of the watch is great..
Casio usually understate their battery lives. It’s a bummer that yours gets 6 years. But the watch itself is great. Congrats!
