    Premiata Forneria Marconi ( PFM ). They're an Italian progressive rock band, which has been around over 50 years. A few of their early albums were also recorded in English.

    I first heard of them in 1973. Loved it and wanted to have the first two albums as well, but you couldn't get them in the Netherlands at the time. In 1973 my parents went for a holiday to Milan and searched every recordstore there. And found them. Per un amigo and Storia di un minuto are still in my collection, along with Photos of ghosts, Live in USA (Cook), L'isola di niente, The world became the world, Chocolate kings and Jet lag. Great band!!!

    How ironic I was 14 years old living in southern Wisconsin when this was on TV. I did watch this TV show but don't recall seeing P.F.M. on the show. I didn't get into prog until I was about 16 or 17. When I was about 19 I bought P.F.M.'s lp "Chocolate Kings." "From Under" is still in my head even today. I've also researched my own Italian roots and even met cousins from Italy.

    I prefer the Italian version but it’s way cool seeing PFM on American network television. American popular culture was like a different planet half a century ago. They were signed to ELP’s custom label.

    • @Kodeekat
      @Kodeekat 9 місяців тому +3

      Yes. Sadly, it was a very different planet then. Just think: people actually got popular from how well they could play an INSTRUMENT.

    These guys were just incredible and had a lot of fun playing. Fortunately to have seen every show on their 77’ tour in L.A.; The Roxy, The Starwood, and The Golden Bear. Met them several times after the shows. Totally cool and they all spoke good English. A real treat and privileged to have been able to meet them and did bring up the other Italian prog bands during our conversations. Not surprisingly, they felt Area was the most talented band from Italy but they were too political in their views and in their music.

    I believe that due to the abundance of bands from the 60s and 70s, most of them did not reach the general American and English public, but for people from other countries, like Brazil in my case, we found out through magazines, radio programs and through the albums. Did bands like Gentle Giant, my favorite among prog rock bands, or groups of other styles like Streetwalkers, Mothers Finest, Rory Gallagher, Little Feat... go unnoticed by most people?

Tinha um amigo que era tão doido por eles, que comprava todas as edições de seus albuns, apenas pq em determinado país as capas vinham em cores diferentes.. cores, não fotos. Let me be the voice of reason here. This band lost the "plot'" of rock music. There is no "song" in their song. THIS group, their clothing . . . Punk was born because of this "stuff." As far as incorporating the flute, I think Canned Heat's "Up the Country" is one the few rock songs that got it right.
