      Disgusted, tired hard working home renovator: "They did a good job caulking". In a tone of voice that says it all.

    Many people are quick to tell you that you should have bought new. But, look what you have, a house, barn and 10 acres, that is paid for. You are not in debt. You are paying as you renovate, and not going into debt. Many people can't say they are mortgage free! I'm happy for your family and excited to see your progress. By winter your home should be about 75% done. Congratulations, you are doing well for yourselves.

    What some may refer to it as insane; however, rot allows mold a place to grow ( warm, dark, wet place). What you are doing, is not only customizing to your preferences, but also removing health hazards.

    Y'all are doing an awesome job, when I started working on my home I had some rot due to the roof not being guttered. Since I have 2 rooms upstairs and had to replace the 2 by 10's holding up the second floor, I was a scardy cat. LOL Went to Lowe's and got me a bunch of 4 by 4 post, that's what I used for my temp wall. Everything I know I learned from my Sweetheart [ he's gone on ahead ] I know he would be proud of what I have gotten done. I was always his helper, he was a Carpenter, and I actually learned how to build an entire house, wiring and plumbing too! Ashley, pay attention! Love your channel! BTW I am 77 years old and still going strong, Blessings to you all!

    ASHLEY, you beast !!! Amazing such a tiny young lady has so much strength. Doug, you sure have a keeper there.
    I’m sure you get discouraged, but you sure don’t show much. You just pick up and move on with the repairs. (I know, what is the alternative?).
    I was just routing wood doors for hinges this weekend, and was off 1/16 of an inch on one hinge and sat down and cried. Chemo hormones, I’m thinking. Yes, I DID pick myself up and fix it, lol. I thought , “Now this isn’t what Ashley would do!”
    You’re making that mobile home better than a frame home as you go.
    I don’t thing ANYTHING overwhelms you guys ... you’re awesome.

I'd see the whole job and be overwhelmed. I hope the rain holds off long enough to keep the project dry. I was talking with my son yesterday, who lives in Mi. There was a lightening storm. • @kristinebailey2804
    @kristinebailey2804 4 роки тому +4

    The reason for all that dry rot........... Roof pitch is NOT steep enough for Michigan snow fall. No eaves and gutters to carry water away from that deck and chimney. Eave troughs are tricky in Michigan as well, you need tin strips at the edge of the roof and a form of heat tape system that zig zags at roofs edge to keep ice dams from forming and melt backing up inside the house walls. Once you get down below the Mount Pleasant area, snow fall is not as much of a problem.

    Doug standing in the window working... omg.. that is what it was like working for the company I used to work for.. lol, we also said.. No Tools, No Problem! It was an insider work crew joke. Because the boss had 60 employees.. and he felt he had to buy a new tool every time he needed one due to theft. I cannot count the improvisations we made to get our jobs done! We sometimes built temporary ladders.. you name it.

    We bought a 100 year old farmhouse way out in the country. We have been working on it for the 26 years we have lived here. We have and are still ripping out stuff and replacing rot. We have done it all. Had to tear out the utility room and the floor while keeping the roof up. Same with the wrap around porch. Just remember it makes you appreciate it that much more when you get it done. Then on to the next!

      I am not a fan of windows, all of ours are covered in thick blinds and curtains to keep the A/C in and keep the sunlight from fading the furniture and bleaching the wood floors. our house is 170 years old so most of the windows were not huge to start with except for the livingroom with its 10 foot ceilings and the windows are almost ceiling to floor but not very wide.

    • @diyfferent
      @diyfferent  5 років тому +3

      We can never know the future. The summer has been good but extremely short. The spring was very cold and wayyy below average, and also winter was the coldest it's been in decades with those polar vortexes especially, and the leaves are already starting to change which is weeks or a month early for our area. Seems all messed up this year, weather-wise. We want to see how a normal year goes, which hopefully happens next year.

    Would I do this? Only if my name was Ashley, and my husband was Doug! All I can say is wow, good on ya! Mobile homes are kinda cool really! I wish I had the guts to do this. What a great job you guys are doing! Very impressive

    Oh, dont forget to invest in a shop vac and rolling magnet.
    When mudding and taping use the powered for seams with paper tape. Dont use premix. We learned the hard way. Start at top with sheetrock and put bottom on last. A sheetrock ruler is good too.

    I can"t believe how flimsy a mobile home is. I see why trailer homes are destroyed in tornados ! My Husband and I started our married life in one of these..... I had no idea what the construction was like! You two are surely doing the right thing ! Hugz, Judy

    OK Doug and Ashley, Now it's getting real. This video is show casing both of your abilities and your cool as cucumbers personalities. I'm Lovin' it. You have Officially become my favorite UA-cam channel. If that had been me that uncovered the problems with the sill plate I surely would have had a stroke, you guys, just another bump in the road. And that Folks is why I watch.

    I bought 8 acres of land with two rundown neglected single wides on it we got the land for $30,000 and we had replace so many studs in one trailer and we had to replace the main floor in the other trailer. We’ve been here for five years and we only completely finished one of the trailers and the one we live in is still under remodel but things have slowed down due to we’ve lived here I can only do so much but this winter I will be getting a brand new kitchen brand new floor covering van we will be tearing out the old paneling and putting up drywall.
