This three part documentary covers the lifetime and story of the man who was robbed from being Bill Gates, Gary Kildall. This documentary is sponsored by www.PCBWay.com!
Dive into the untold story of Gary Kildall, the overlooked genius who laid the foundation stones of the personal computing revolution with his groundbreaking CP/M operating system. In this eye-opening exposé, we unravel the momentous journey of a tech maestro who could have been in the limelight, akin to Bill Gates, but was tragically edged out by the fierce market strategies of Microsoft and IBM. Uncover the dramatic twists and the bitter rivalry that ensued as MS-DOS controversially eclipsed CP/M, bringing a sad and abrupt halt to Kildall's soaring career. Watch as we shed light on a saga brimming with innovation, rivalry, and heartbreak, echoing the turbulent early days of the software industry. Don't miss this deep dive into the life of a visionary who should have been etched in history as a titan of the tech world - Gary Kildall: the man who should have been Bill Gates. #GaryKildall #CPM #DigitalResearch #TechHistory #UntoldStories

My left ear enjoyed this story.

What a great episode, Al! Gary Kildall was way ahead of its time! Looking forward to the next one!
It's up in 24 hrs.. stay tuned!
Great video. Kildall always was an interesting character. Liked him on The Computer Chronicles and the GEM Desktop was way ahead of WIndows circa 1985
I really enjoyed this piece and am looking forward to parts II and three. There are many UA-camrs, like Kim Justice, doing videos like this on software, but very few on hardware. I, myself, have made videos on people like Seymour Rubenstein, founder of Word Star and marketing director of IMSAI. But when I went to tackle the TI99, it took me almost a year to get the video together. Good work and I hope the greater UA-cam community realize what a valuable contribution you have made here.
Thank you!
Enjoyed it. Looking forward to the other parts.
Parts two and three are out tomorrow and the next day. Enjoy!
TY for a great production. Your Explanations on the early tech isn't easy to explain, and you explained it clearly. Kildare was the OG, Gates (like Jobs) the sales genius. Kildare never focused on creating a large corp, his focus was the complicated tech problems and his genius solutions that we all enjoy today.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I used DR Dos instead of MS Dos for a long time. It had better memory management tools and came with a disk compression algo built in.
Excellent documentary! Thanks for making this!
Thanks! Very kind of you!
Gary Kildall was a great co-host on The Computer Chronicles.
Yes he sure was. I felt it showed his true personality. Quite meek, mild mannered, friendly and kind..
He was one of the greats and his flaws only showed how human he was. CP/M was what I cut my teeth on and everyday I'm greatful for his contributions.
having issues listening with headphones only getting audio on the left side?

@@AlsGeekLab No problem, just commented to make you aware of it. Thanks for the interesting content!
I dealt with it by simply forcing mono playback of audio on my audio system.
Thanky you for covering Gary's work. I started watching the computer chronicles and eventually did some digging. What an honour it would have been to meet this guy. What I could never find much on was the police invstigation that is the climax. Based on what I did see, it's difficult to form the view that a competent investigation occurred. Tripping on a step in a bikie hang out sounds like the biggest load of bullshit ever.
Hey bud - all the voice over is coming out the left speaker?

haha yeah i remember seeing him on computer chronicles.. he just had the wrong friends lol/
Your vocal narration is in the left channel only. You should really remove this video and repost it with fixed narration if that was not intentional.
This is a constant struggle for me now that I'm deaf in one ear. I had no idea that it's only in the left channel. I didn't see that when I was editing the audio. It looked like both channels. Is it the narration only, or the music as well?
Narration only
@@AlsGeekLab Was unaware you were deaf in one ear. Sincere apologies. The narration is on the left side while the music is properly in both channels.
There are a few times I have to "rely on instrumentation" as well, usually using scopes, VU meters, etc. to get a visual representation of what's going on.
You can reupload the audio only maybe ? - When editing look at the master VU meters and check the pan controls for audio fella @@AlsGeekLab

Fix the audio
I'd perhaps like it if you would be a bit more polite in your reply! I am deaf in one ear so this was not picked up by me :( I have fixed this, please view ua-cam.com/video/59D1L7xj8eM/v-deo.html instead.
@AlsGeekLab sincere apologies. Didn't mean for it to come across like that, irrespective of your hearing problem. I was watching the video in my car and my reply was voice to text, which is why it's come across so blunt. (Eg see my other reply in the thread which was a 2 word voice to text too). Your videos are great, and exceptionally well researched. I didn't intend to make you feel unappreciated for your efforts.
@@peebola ah, that makes sense! All good! Hope you are happy with the new version!
